V.M. Marsh has led a nomadic existence for most of her adult life while she has accompanied her military husband to duty stations spanning both US coasts and Hawaii. Thanks to living in a variety of amazing places, she has an abundance of locations, cultures, and experiences to use in her writing. Before becoming an author, she held (and still holds) volunteer board positions for multiple organizations and pursued a math degree [after realizing early on that nursing wasn't for her]. Mostly, though, she has held down the fort through deployments, organized and managed multiple military moves, and been a full-time mom of two precious little Divas, er, daughters. When she isn't writing dark but quirky Urban Fantasy, she can be found reading, sightseeing, camping, or crafting. Her debut novel is CONCEALED BY MAGIC.
I found myself skimming a lot of superfluous pages to get back to the forward momentum of this book. The story line, while interesting in concept, was mediocre in execution. Scarlet's tendency to emotion and fear was aggravating. She believed herself betrayed by those who helped, protected and befriended her, refusing to see the full picture. They trained her, expanded her knowledge and ability of her magic far beyond anything she had even considered. And yet she was betrayed by them? I wanted her to be better than that. Even the ending was anti climactic. I probably will not continue this trilogy.
Really enjoyed this story. It was a light read that kept me coming back in between cleaning to finish and see the ending. Really enjoyed the twists to the story and the development of characters.
