They found themselves in a sinister facility where human feelings are transformed into food… Surrounded by death on all sides, I’e, Natsune, Yamabiki, and Kazu manage to escape from the feedlot with their lives…only to discover the Breeders, women who bear child after child behind bars and men who are driven mad by a cocktail of super-strong aphrodisiacs. What other secrets does the facility hold? In volume 2, the fight to survive unfolds in the desolate depths of the prison!
Ok this was MUCH better than the first. More plot happened and we get so see some shocking revelations about a character that really opens the story up. First volume was just shock for shocks sake. Now we get to see this terrifying world in action.
Ooooh, this took a suprising turn with the Regenerator backstory. Loved the mother-son plot in there and the sci-fi twist! I did not see that coming at all! Apart from that, not too much happened and it was not as shocking as the first volume.
I’e and his friend Kazu are taking the bus home from high school just like any other day. After they mysteriously pass out while aboard the bus, they wake up in a new bus full of dead bodies which are being transported into an underground facility utilizing butchered human meat for stomach-churning purposes. The place is run by dangerously powerful people serving an even more terrifying master.
Aligning themselves with other survivors, I’e and his new companions make it their mission to break out alive while being confronted with one nightmare after the other within the demonic facility. The truth of what’s truly going on underground is even more awful than they’re prepared to handle, however.
Starving Anonymous starts off as a pure gross-out gore manga, but progresses into an insane science fiction psychological thriller with some genuinely fascinating characters and surprisingly emotional moments. Even through its weaker plot elements, the series keeps up a constant momentum of explicit horror, brutal action and bizarro nightmare fuel.
The villains are chilling, but the heroes aren’t exactly right in the head either. The two leading men Natsune and Yamabiki who support I’e with his escape are extremely disturbed while still being empathetic and very interesting. Natsume is a monstrous combat expert with a childlike understanding of the world while Yamabiki is a deranged genius whose morbid fascination with science often overrides his morality. The relationship between these crazy guys is what really brings the mystery, thrills and tension of the story to their full potential.
There’s a few moments where the logic behind the facility and the reasoning behind the strange world-building is a bit iffy, but the ridiculousness of the plot and the strong character work is solid enough to make up for its shortcomings. There’s some harsh commentary about global warming, treatment toward livestock for meat consumption and the increase of health problems in the modern world due to the way our environment is treated and the garbage that’s put in our food every day.
The finale is also surprisingly emotional and satisfying, being ambiguous enough to leave some of the darker themes up to the imagination.
Now that its moving out of shockbait the series is becoming a much more enjoyable read. There are still moments of shockbait but compared to the previous volume's shockbait its less transgressive. The story really ramps up more as well through two strong flashbacks from They really help flesh out the setting and the general gritty horror as we learn about The characters become fleshed out as well namely the new Ogura and Natsune. There still are some moments that come in for shock or coolness like but there generally more related to the overall story and less offputting. The art continues to be extremely strong. Kazu Inabe's art is welll-paneled and brings attention to the gore and grotesque with strong purposeful details. We really get to see his ability to draw faces in With the movement away from shockbait into general grotesque and gore horror along with the story really getting into motion I can't wait to reread next volume.
Twórca umiejętnie wykorzystuje to do budowania kolejnych nagłych zwrotów akcji i szokujących scen.
Ilustracje Kazu Inabe doskonale oddają klimat beznadziei i desperacji. Ponadto detale, takie jak ponure wnętrza, klaustrofobiczne przestrzenie czy przerażające postacie, potęgują uczucie niepokoju u czytelnika. ...

Come uscirci vivi?
Is a pleasant feeling , considering I gave it a chance after not liking much the first volume.
The pacing still is a bit weird , but I'm glad we got to know more about Natsune, I knew his character would be great. His story was sad, and thinking about his past actions so far, you can see the innocence of his real age peeking through.
The glasses guy still bothers me , and the protagonist could take a more active role on the story to be interesting.. I get the feeling of wanting to develop a more humane and young aspect , with the protagonist, but having useless info about who he liked and him doing nothing aside looking and gasping at the things that happen feels bland. I can't like him much.
Still, the art is really great! I'll keep up with the series for now.
I thought this series was going to be about a dystopian world where there is no good and they need to be cannibals to survive (because it's titled "Starving Anonymous) .... but I was so wrong. MAN was I wrong. It is so so so much deeper and weirder and worse than that, and I honestly didn't think it could get worse than that. There are so many disturbing but also creative and intriguing things happening... It's incredible. It's terrifying. It's ... wrong to even exist, but I'm glad it does. Holy crap.
We get more insight in this volume of Natsune’s back story and how he became the way he is. We also find out who is really in charge of these weird experiments? I’m not necessarily attached to any of the characters yet, but I do still think it’s worth reading another volume.
2.25 ★ — This is bad, definitely. But for some reason I can’t stop reading. Maybe is the cheap alien gore, maybe is because I want to **** Natsume. Who knows.
Better than volume 1. I'm still not really sold, as I don't like the characters. They are still flat, but at least we got a backstory for one this time. The setting is interesting though.
This whole manga felt like a hallucination or a drug trip but I guess I can’t get enough of it. It’s so good and at some points so unbelievable and creepy! This is totally my favorite horror manga
