I enjoyed this volume. It was engaging enough plotwise. Not a lot of character depth, but it was sufficient for the needs of the story telling. Could have used a little more backstory. The journal notes and throw away anecdotes could've been replaced by more backstory on the characters and their motivations. But I guess theses are strings which will be connected in the ensuing volumes.
