Introducing a new romantic suspense series from New York Times bestselling author Skye Jordan.
Forced into early retirement, former black ops operator, Ian Heller, has a couple of choices-playing security guard to an entitled hip-hop mogul or working for the civilian counterpart of his elite military unit, Manhunters, Inc. Tasked with terminating a cell of counterfeiters, who open the door to a fresh wave of terrorists, Ian must get close to the ex-wife of a key suspect. Sparks ignite between them, but Ian knows crossing the line with this woman would be the last thing he needs on his first assignment with his new team.
Savannah Bishop is trapped. Her ex-husband, the sheriff of Hazard County, Montana, runs his department the same way he tried to control his marriage-with intimidation and force. With her divorce final, Savannah can her taste freedom-until she is hit with a custody suit. Desperate to escape the daily harassment and hold onto her young son, Savannah accepts help from the only man in town willing to defy her ex. But when she discovers Ian is as much a chameleon as her ex, Savannah's hopes for both a new love and a fresh start are threatened.
I am no stranger to Skye Jordan’s writing, but Grave Secrets is the first Romantic Suspense title I have had the opportunity to read, and as an opener to the Manhunters series, Zane and Savannah’s story was a winner.
There was some dark shit going on here…
I think you know when reading a book of this genre whether it’s going to be a decent read pretty quickly, as you want the suspense aspect to grab you from the start and the romance between the leads to keep you invested in the story playing out around it. That was definitely the case for me with this title. The author balanced the relationship building between Zane and Savannah around Manhunters undercover investigation into her Ex and his father and the mine they owned where murder, as well as a whole host of other unsavoury practices were taking place.
He was on a slippery slope into dangerous territory with this woman… If he didn’t watch his step, he’d find himself in a landslide…
Even after the appalling behavior meted out by her ex-husband and the harassment she was still suffering from him and his law enforcement colleagues, Savannah doesn’t take long to fall hook, line and sinker for Zane’s charms. It doesn’t hurt that he shows her son the kind of attention that he is sorely lacking from a positive male influence, and that he always seems to be on hand when trouble is around.
He might not be all that he seemed… but he was her only lifeline at the moment…
It doesn’t take long for things to heat up between them and with the plot in general, and I couldn’t put the book down, everything moved at a steady clip, and the author also managed to introduce and include the rest of the Manhunters team into the story along the way, and few other POV’s come into play, which also gives you an indication as to where paths are likely to join up between characters in future books.
"You can trust me with your heart…"
All in all, a great start to the series, I look forward to seeing where the author takes it with future characters and investigations.
ARC generously provided by the author, in exchange for the above honest review.
Grave Secrets is the action packed, suspenseful, and exciting first book in Skye Jordan’s new Manhunters series. And because it is Skye Jordan, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention sexy, too! If this book is any indication of what’s to come, Manhunters just might be my new favorite series of hers.
From the opening scene until the very last word Ms. Jordan held me captive. Ian and the rest of the Manhunters crew got more than they bargained for when they landed in Hazard County, Montana to take down a group of counterfeiters, who turned out to be so much worse. I loved the mystery and intrigue of this story, and how I never knew what was going to happen next. The budding romance between Ian and Savannah added another dimension to the story, considering Savannah’s ex-husband was one of the main players in the counterfeit ring. Romance is the last thing Ian was looking for when he took this job, especially with him not knowing if Savannah could be trusted or not. But the chemistry between them made it difficult for Ian to keep his distance. Add in a sweet little boy and Ian found himself not only having to take down the bad guys, but navigating unfamiliar territory where he’s having to protect those he cares about.
I really enjoyed every facet of this book. The story was perfectly paced and entertaining, the characters fully developed and compelling, and it left me wanting to know more about the rest of the Manhunters. I definitely think Ms. Jordan has a winner of a series on her hands with this group of characters.
Grave Secrets by Skye Jordan is the first book in her new romantic suspense series, Manhunters, which is the perfect title for a group of men who work together to bring down felons, terrorists, and any other evil doer they need to, and while Ian Heller is no longer in the military or part of his former elite group of Black Ops, he’s still able to use his ‘hunting’ skills as well as his training to thwart illegal activities and bring justice to those people who believe they are above the law. Because Ian’s story begins the series, Jordan lays the groundwork for all of her potential heroes by introducing readers to the entire Manhunters’ team as well as constructing several locations where their certain expertise and skills are needed, illustrating just how much action, suspense, and romance will likely be part of each of the stories.
Grave Secrets places Ian and his teammates in Hazard County, Montana, which is an apt name for a town that seems to be bogged down with underhanded activity without any of its residents’ knowledge. Ian’s job or target, so to speak, is the ex-wife of the Sheriff of Hazard County, Savannah Bishop, and while Ian is prepared to do what it takes to bring the criminals to justice, what he doesn’t count on is the instant attraction and sizzling chemistry between him and Savannah, which not only could jeopardize his first assignment with his new team, but it could also end up destroying the lives of Savannah and her young son due to their connection to the Sheriff and the fact that they don’t know the real reason that Ian became a part of their lives, even if that reason no longer matters because he’s crossed a line that he has no intention of going back to because he’s already in too deep with Savannah and her son.
One of the attributes of romantic suspense that I adore is the pace of the storyline. There never seems to be a dull moment because the anticipation builds slowly over the course of the book and then when the showdown occurs, readers are as ready as they can be for what’s about to play out in front of them.
It can sometimes be difficult to mesh the romance and the action parts of a story so that they are equally portrayed, but Skye Jordan does a good job of corralling those attributes together in a really good story.
4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
Grave Secrets draws you in from the first page, when Zane's first surveillance assignment for his new company nearly goes very, very badly. The reader immediately needs to know the answers to a whole bunch of questions: Why are a soon-to-be-single mother and her young son the subject of an investigation? Why is there a sheriff's deputy stationed outside her house as well? What's up with the strange "game" that Zane overhears Savannah and her son play that night?
And those are just in the first chapter!
As the story continues, the drama and suspense pull you farther in--when will Zane come clean to Savannah about who he really is? What will it take for her to forgive him when he finally does? The answer to that last one is the only part of the story that wasn't completely satisfying, IMHO. She forgives and forgets waaaaay to fast, I thought considering--still, though, I really enjoyed Zane and Savannah's story, and can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the members of his team :)
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love Skye Jordan’s books. I’m not always a fan of the spy/government/intrigue genre, but she writes them really well. There are always lots of twists and turns, so when you think you’ve got it figured out, she goes a different direction. Definitely keeps you on your toes and in the story. I liked tough Savannah, and sexy Ian, and I always love a story where the heroine is a mother and the hero loves her even more for it, and loves her child/ren too! Looking forward to the rest of the series, and if you can’t wait for the next one, I suggest you check out her Rough Riders hockey team series or her Renegades series!
Grave Secrets is a system shocker. Thrust into a danger zone, Savannah Bishop is in for the fight of her life. A vengeful ex with a thirst for control leaves her no choice but to trust a man with tricks up his sleeve and lust in his heart. Ian is a warrior. He's used to putting himself in difficult situations, but when an assignment puts his heart at risk, he will stop at nothing to even the score and emerge victorious. Skye Jordan brings the intrigue along with the romance. Don't stand too close too the edge. You might get burned.
Grave Secrets by Skye Jordan is the first book in the Manhunters Series, and it is excellent. If you are a romantic suspense fan you will enjoy it! Even if you aren’t but have enjoyed Jordan’s other books, this one is worth the read.
Grave Secrets features the romance between Ian and Savannah. Ian is the newest member of the Manhunters team and is thinking this op in Hazard, Montana is a joke. He is used to neutralizing threats from around the world. Now he is after some small town counterfeiters? What a joke. Savannah is a single mother who is trying so dang hard to get out from under the control of her abusive ex-husband. Too bad he is the sheriff and controls the entire town. When Ian and Savannah’s paths cross things heat up and you are in for quite a ride.
Jordan does a fantastic job with the plot of Grave Secrets. It is unique, well written, and exciting for the reader. It is filled with moments that have you sneaking around with the Manhunters and even on a high speed chase in he snow! Talk about an adrenaline rush. I love it when books bring out real emotions in me.
The romance between Ian and Savannah was easy and relaxed. Something Savannah desperately needed in her life. As with all of Jordan’s books, the intimacy was so well done between these two. I adored Savannah’s 5-year-old son, Jamison in this story. He provided such light to the scenes he was in and really connected with Ian. Grave Secrets is a book filled with romance, passion, suspense, love, and hope. If you are looking for these things in your books, give it a read.
A great start to hopefully a new series by Skye Jordan about a secret group of operatives, who work for the U.S. gov’t, but not really. This one focusing on Zane, the new member in the group after he retires from the army. His first assignment is to get close to the ex wife, Savannah, of suspect in forged pasports, terrorists and a lot of other law breaking deals, problem is he is the Sheriff in the small town and has everyone terrified. Savannah is almost free of her abusive ex and longs for freedom with her young son, away from all the abuse and the town, until she meets Zane and starts to hope for more...problem she doesn’t know why he is really there in her town and when she finds out it could be the end. What a great great read with suspense, some action, steamy scenes, a hot alpha man and a strong strong woman. The entire read was filled with excitement that had me on edge....will she get caught...will she break free....will her ex finally lose it....will Zane get caught....how will they escape...will they survive...loved it. I also loved that there were no jealousies, no other women to come between them, and the drama between them was warranted. I liked how strong and resilient Savannah was, how she was able to bounce back and not back down, no matter what. I also loved the lead in with all the other characters, getting to know them and a little about their personalities, making me hope there will be more to these Manhunters. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Oh these Manhunters are HOT and capable! Love this series...Civilian Black Ops! Ian Heller, retired Black Ops soldier now works with a civilian-government off the books Black Ops group. This book is about his first op with The Manhunters. They've been tasked by the FBI's Director of Joint Interagency Task Force, Gianna Bliss, to find the counterfeiters supplying terrorists with passports. They murdered Mason, an FBI's undercover operative following up on a tip about the passports at a mine in Montana owned by Lyle Bishop. His son Hank, is the Hazard County Sheriff. At the start of this book Hank is almost divorced, unwillingly, from our heroine Savannah Bishop. Hank is a corrupt, controlling and abusive cop. Savannah just wants away from him and his equally abusive and controlling father to keep her and her son, Jamison, safe. Ian's job is to get close to Savannah to glean evidence as to who the counterfeiters are as Lyle and/or Hank are on the top of the list. Ian find himself doing his job too well and gets too close to Savannah, losing his heart to this smart, strong and resilient woman.
I really enjoyed this story. It was realistic and gave us a few plot surprises while building the heat between these two. I found myself liking the characters and wanted to know the story of the rest of the team as well as her best friend Misty.
Thank you Skye for the ARC for my honest review. I love your well crafted HEA romances. Every one is different yet deeply moving.
This is the first book in Skye Jordan's new Manhunter's series, and what fantastic start it is!! I'm definitely hooked and after being introduced to the team, I will want to be reading all of the Manhunter's stories - especially Roman's...
Grave Secrets is Ian and Savannah's book. Savannah is trying to get free from her abusive ex and live a happy life with her adorable five year old son. She's a great character - she's strong, a fighter and puts her son first. She can't believe the spark she feels between her and Ian from the first they meet. Ian is my kind of hero - strong, sexy and fiercely protective. At first he thought the job was going to be dull - then he met Savannah and the case started to heat up! The two leads have instant chemistry and Skye Jordan is excellent at portraying the connection between characters. The story had me hooked and I was routing for Ian and Savannah to get their HEA.
Grave Secrets is packed full of romance, action and suspense and I loved it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I received an ARC of Grave Secrets in exchange for my honest review
Get ready to have this book suck you in from page 1 and take you on the ride of a lifetime, all without leaving your chair. I don’t quite know where to begin, without giving away any spoilers, so I’ll just tell you about how the characters grabbed me from the start. Savannah Bishop and her son definitely touched my heart. They are in a tough position as her almost ex-husband is a controlling, intimidating power-hungry sheriff (of the town where they all live) and he and his father make her/their life a living hell. Enter Ian Heller. He is working undercover to help break up a ring of counterfeiters in the same county. When he meets Savannah and her son? He cannot just stand by and watch the intimidation and abuse. The scenes where Savannah’s son bonds with him are adorable, definitely a lighter touch to the story.
Some of the story will make you feel like you are right there and you will fight right alongside of Savannah and Ian. I can guarantee that you will be cheering for them, too. I read Grave Secrets straight thru and couldn’t it put it down. Very good read that will take turns making you laugh, sniffle, and shout at the characters. Whew!
Skye Jordan has a way with romantic suspense! This new series, Manhunters, drew me in and kept me hooked until the end. I have been a fan of her romantic suspense writing. Ian has left the military and is now on a quest to join civilian life. He does what he knows and he gets a job protecting people from the "bad guys" in the world. He feels it will be an easy tasks, especially in Hazard County, Montana. But this town has more to it than they know. Savannah is a single mother that is raising her son while trying to escape from an ex-husband who is all types of bad. He and his family run the town and she is fighting to get past the trouble and pain they are causing her. When Ian sees/meets Savannah, he is immediately drawn to her. While he wants to take a chance on Savannah, he also feels that she has a dangerous entanglement with the "trouble" in the town that could further complicate matters.
I enjoy all of Skye's writing, but I these stories draw me in and keep me wanting more. I love to read about a strong, single parent and the men who can handle taking on those roles. I can't wait to see what the future Manhunters have in store!
This one had it all - spunky heroine, ex-military hottie, bad cop ex, an adorable little guy - and a great supporting cast of characters.
How do you escape a bad marriage when your ex and his dad control the town and all those in it?
Well, thank goodness they are into something much deeper than town politics and there is a black ops team in town gathering evidence on them.
When Ian moves in next door to Savannah & Jamison - nothing can keep their attraction from igniting - not the fact that Ian is there on a mission to expose a passport counterfeiting ring and definitely not her controlling and abusive Ex.
I throughly enjoyed my time in their world - the intrigue, the fun with Jamison, the showdowns with the Ex and his goons - and most of all the magnetic attraction between Ian and Savannah that exploded on to pages in some mind blowing steamy scenes. As always I love how Ian really let his “softer” side show with Savannah. Also thought the way the lies he had to tell was well done.
I would definitely recommend this book and author to those who love their happy endings with a bit adventure!
The first book in the Manhunters Inc series, Grave Secrets starts out with a bang.
These new characters of bad-asses help take down those who do harm to our country and find love along the way. Zane and Savannah are this book's main characters and I think they were the best to start with. Even though Savannah is trying to get out of an abusive situation and protect her son, she is written as a strong heroine who has finally found her voice and stand up for herself. Zane is ex military without any family ties who starts out thinking this would be a boring job, but learns quickly that nothing is boring in Hazard County.
The rest of the supporting cast is humorous and deadly. The antagonists (mainly the Sheriff and his father) are equally bad as the Manhunters are good. There's even a slight twist with one of the characters that you won't see coming, but makes perfect sense in the grand scheme of the story.
I look forward to more from these characters and already anticipate Roman's story.
The start of the book is edgy and nerve racking and had me hooked from page one. Zane is ex Army and on his first mission with Manhunters Inc and his first mission is to terminate the cell of counterfeiters who have let terrorists into USA, and for that he has to keep an eye on the ex wife and kid of the crooked and corrupt sherif. Zane is prepared to do whatever is required that complete his job but is totally unprepared for the feelings Savannah ignites in him. Savannah tired of daily harassment by her ex husband is looking for a way out of Hazard and his clutches. Her divorce is final, but she still has to find a way to win the custody suit and keep her son with her. In a bleak situation, Zane seems to be the only hope she has. What will happen when she learns Zane is not exactly what he seems to be ? Grave secrets takes you on a roller coaster of Suspense, romance, Chase, emotions, an edge of the seat experience and keeps you there throughout. Grave secrets is the first in Manhunters, Inc series and I can’t wait for more to come.
I knew Skye Jordan could write an action packed book, hello Renegades, but who knew she could write suspense? Not this girl, but boy am I glad she's dived into this genre!! This one is full of mystery and intrigue, action and oh my some sizzling heat!!
Ian and Savannah are two people that absolutely should not be together but sometimes there's just nothing that can be done, but give into the heat. This book has that in spades but also the page turning story kept me on my toes because it's unlike any book I've read before. As we get to know our H/h and her son Jamison, my heart became hopeful that while he's a man determined to solve this mystery, he would also take to heart the feelings he's experiencing with Savannah and how much that little boy looks up to him....cuz his dad....not so much a great role model!
Manhunter's newest agent sets the stage for a series that I can't wait to read more of this newest series by one of my favorite authors!
Romantic suspense with a fresh spin on it! I've always been a huge fan of Skye Jordan. She has never written a story I didn't love. Grave Secrets, the first book in her all-new Manhunters series, didn't disappoint in the slightest. Savannah and Ian are two intriguing characters that each bring a strength to the twists and turns they find themselves in, and Savannah's little boy, Jamison adds a cute layer of reality to this thrilling novel.
Ian and Savannah's connection is undeniable, and forbidden in a sense. He's "new in town" to do his job...shut down an illegal operation that Savannah's ex is running. Savannah is just trying to make it out of town with her and her son's lives intact. With tension and palpable chemistry this book offers a wide range of emotions and dynamics to this romantic suspense book that kept my attention tight from the very beginning.
Grave Secrets introduces a very exciting cast as well, and I can't wait to read more about how the Manhunters find love and excitement!
I’m loving this new series. This book has a great story line and a lot of exciting action in it. I really like this new group of heroes known as Manhunters. In this book we get Ian and Savannah’s story. They have incredible chemistry from the first time they meet which is why Ian gets assigned to her and her son Jamison. She does not know about that though. Her ex-husband, well their divorce is not final as the story begins, is their target. Trust me he is an easy man to hate! Besides making Savannah’s life impossible, he is up to no good in the small Montana town they live in which is why the Manhunters have been called in. Ian and Savannah share a very steamy night together before all hell breaks loose. Things happen and Savannah doubts what they shared was even real and wonders who Ian really is. This is such an awesome story! And we get enough info about the others in the Manhunters to have a feel for the kind of people they are and I can’t wait to get their stories too.
Grave Secrets is the first in a new series for Skye Jordan and man, is she off to a fantastic start! Ian Heller is part of the elite Manhunters group and is sent in undercover to help bust up a counterfeit ring. His target, Savannah Bishop, the ex-wife of the sheriff himself. Savannah is biding her time until she can leave the small town where her ex-husband is still making her life a living hell.
This story is full of suspense and is so action packed it will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. I loved how Savannah found herself gravitating towards Ian even though she has sworn off all men, and I loved watching Ian fall head over heels for Savannah and her son, Jamison. The writing is impeccable and the story flows so well, before I knew it I was at the end of the book. Another job well done Ms. Jordan!
Action packed romantic suspense filled with counterfeiters, manipulative bullying ex's, bad cops, car chases, intrigue and so much more. Sent to do a job, Zane didn't count on a five year old and stubbornly strong woman capturing his affections. As the Manhunters team works to uncover the counterfeit passport ring and unravel the murder of an operative, Zane and Savannah get closer as he tries to discover everything she knows about her abusive ex-husband. When she discovers what he's been doing, Savannah is furious but realizes her only hope of escape is Zane and the team. A final showdown rattles her to the core but her nightmare is finally behind her.
This book is a definite page turner. The main characters are wonderfully written with an exciting storyline as a backdrop. All the secondary characters are intriguing and I look forward to reading their stories.
This was an excellent read. It had suspense, intrigue, and a bit of alpha hotness. I would have liked a little more between Jamison and Ian; that little boy was too cute. I also felt like I was left hanging on exactly what happened to Mason. Ian meets Savannah when he is tasked with finding out what, if anything, she has to do with a counterfeiting ring that they suspect is tied to her ex. He is fresh from the military and this is his first job with a civilian team. Savannah is just trying to raise her son and get away from her controlling ex-husband. Neither of them is in a place where they are looking for a relationship, but fate may have other plans. Will Ian be able to solve his case and keep things professional with regard to Savannah? Will subterfuge and broken trust ruin what may be built between them?
Heart pounding, sexy, suspenseful. Savannah is an amazing single Mom and her son Jamison is a sweetheart. Sadly, her ex-husband is the town sheriff and is a controlling jerk that works to put up as many roadblocks keeping her stuck in Hazard. Zane arrives undercover to solve a mystery which involves the sheriff. He connects with Savannah and Jamison and as he works his case, he finds his heart is being pulled to them which muddy the waters of what he needs to do. The mystery is intense and full of unexpected twists and turns which kept me guessing and gut twisting. Loved the crew of Manhunters as they work together and show amazing teamwork and friendship during dangerous work. Excited to experience more from this crew. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
HOLY HE**!!! This is the first in the new Manhunters series and wow what a start it is. I could not put this book down. When I was forced to, aka do the adulting thing and go to work, I was thinking of this book and what would happen next. The story line just hooks you. While I knew there would be a HEA, the road there left me on the edge of my seat. Worried when Savannah's ex would actually try to kill her, what would Ian do to protect her, would he be able to, would they survive Ian's lies to Savannah about who he was and what he does. Some things were not as they seemed and worked out great, other pieces threw me for a loop as I was not expecting it. Grave Secrets is a roller coaster of a ride.
Skye Jordan's new Manhunter's series brings a whole new theme to her writing. Still alpha males but this time elite military. Grave Secrets, I hope is the first of the series.
Manhunter's Inc is an elite group of individuals who work off the books to bring down the bad guys. Grave Secrets follows newest Manhunter Inc. member, Zane Heller, and Savannah Bishop's story.
Zane is trying to get the dirt on a counterfeiting passport group and finds Savannah who is in the middle of something she has no clue about. This book is full of surprises and doesn't disappoint on intrigue and the all-important chemistry you expect in a Skye Jordan book.
If you are a fan of Lori Foster's Men of Honor books this book is for you!
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Fantastic first book in a series! The story features Zane Heller and Savannah Bishop. I can’t begin to imagine the hell Savannah was living in. I admire her strength though. It’s no wonder she goes a little crazy with Zane. Half a decade? Phew! Zane is a cool drink of water to a woman dying of thirst. Everything plays out smoothly in this story line. Tha pace is perfect and the action is exciting! There were a couple of plot twists I wasn’t expecting, which was great.
This is an action-packed story full of obsession, betrayal, scandalous behavior, friendship and love. The characters were fabulous and I look forward to reading more about them in future books. Bravo!
Since I found Skye Jordan and her Renegade series, she has become one of my must read authors. Some authors are hit and miss in their writing but Ms Jordan has been consistently on target in every book that I have read of hers (which I think is everything that she’s written). This first book in The Manhunters Series is no different. I liked all of the characters and can’t wait to read everyone’s stories. Ian and Savannah were made for each even though the obstacles seemed insurmountable for Savannah. Luckily, she was stronger than she thought that she was. Her circumstances would break other women’s spirits. If you like book series, this one looks to be a winner.
This is the first book in the new "A Manhunters, Inc." series. This book was fantastic! Full of suspense with just the right amount of romance thrown in. The characters are well developed, the storyline sucks you in. This one is a page-turner. I love the two main characters Zane and Savannah, both characters are strong. The supporting characters are also well written and very likable, I am hoping for a follow-up book about Roman and Gianna. So if you love a well-written book, with a great plot and a lot of unexpected twists, with just the right amount of romance thrown in, this one is for you.
