Gavin St. James

After the hell I've been through in the Marines--in life--there's nothing I crave more than routine, stability, peace. Until McKenna Brewer walks into my life.

She's impulsive, fiery, tempting as hell, and everything I don't need. But when she offers me a night of no-strings-attached passion, I can't resist.

When our night together has unexpected consequences, I can't help but think this might be the perfect opportunity to show McKenna just how much I want her.

The only problem? She doesn't do forevers. But forever is exactly what I need with her.

Recklessly ever after surprised me. I like my males dominant and alpha. Gavin didn’t fit this type but he totally won me over. Gavin is an ex-marine and wants life to be easy. His past means he likes stability and routine. He chooses the sensible option.

McKenna is a loose cannon and a commitment-phobic. She is everything Gavin should stay away from. She likes her guys easy and short-term.

Stuck in a lift, Gavin needs to take his mind off the situation. He finds himself lip-locked with the girl he wants most, but she gives him the brush off as soon as it’s over. Gavins determined to get what he wants even if he has to play it safe.

McKenna has been let down by too many people to consider dating. She doesn’t get close to people. Only a few have broken down her walls. She works as a nurse and has a busy life. She wants the easy one night stand kind of guys. She knows she should stay away from Gavin but one night with him will change her forever.

I liked that the girl is the one doing the running. She doesn’t want commitment and this works really well in this book. Both characters have a troubled past and are perfect for each other. Gavin is a sweet patient guy who turned out very likeable. As I said, I like a strong alpha and Gavin has too many demons to fit this type, but the author creates a perfect guy. I really enjoyed this book. The twists made the story work well. It had some funny moments and some sexy scenes.

4.5 stars out of 5. *I received an ARC as part of the blog tour. The first two books are on offer at the moment and I had to have them. Recklessly ever after is the third book in the series and the characters do feature in this one but I don’t think reading them in the wrong order will affect my enjoyment. It just shows something different from the usual can be good!

I love the Reckless Hearts series, and I've been waiting not-so-patiently for Gavin's book since the beginning! Of course I love Gavin. I have since Book 1, because there was something so special about him right off the bat. But McKenna is the real star of RECKLESSLY EVER AFTER.

McKenna is emotionally messy. Being in her head is like being on a roller coaster--you ride the highs and the lows with her as she navigates her relationship with Gavin. But instead of the usual, put-together heroine who is there to save the hero, like in most romance novels with a broody hot dude like Gav, Heather Van Fleet wrote Kenna as a real person with her own issues.

She has a history with her family as well as with men that she doesn't quite want to face. She is unsure of whether or not she wants to pursue Gavin and the challenges that pop up in the story. She feels, she emotes, she makes mistakes, and she has regrets. (Gee, sound like anyone you know? How about EVERYONE I know?!!) She also loves fiercely, once she's on the right track.

McKenna Brewer is the heroine that romance has been waiting for. Heroines don't have to be perfect, they don't have to follow a formula, and they don't have to have everything in order. When love hits, it hits, and sometimes things are messy when that happens--even with a hottie like Gavin St. James. Her imperfections, confusion, and fears are what make Kenna a breath of fresh air as far as heroines on my romance shelf go. Through it all, Gavin is respectful, sexy, broody, and loyal--remaining true to all the things I've loved about him since RECKLESS HEARTS and THE RIGHT KIND OF RECKLESS.

Besides McKenna, I loved how Ms. Van Fleet weaved Gavin and Kenna's story into the other characters' stories, and that epilogue... sigh... let's just say I may have shed a few tears as I reminisced about these three men and the baby girl they raise. I thoroughly enjoyed each couple's journey to their happily ever after and spending more time with them in RECKLESSLY EVER AFTER. Maybe because Ms. Van Fleet writes a sexy romance like no other author I've read, with scenes that manage to be just as hot as emotional, just as physical as mental. I can't wait to see what she does next.

This is the final book in the Reckless Hearts series, but don't think for one second that I'm not going to beg Ms. Van Fleet to write more in this world (maybe Hanna needs a story, or a "twenty-years later" novella with sweet Chloe as the heroine). I highly recommend this series for fans of steamy contemporary romance.

Gavin stole my heart from the first book and I could not wait for his story. I was not disappointed, although I was worried with McKenna though. She was wishy washy, and a runner and I found myself bored with her.

Gavin has a past that no one should have to live through, but with friends like Collin and Max, Gavin has been able to get through most things. But he has fallen for McKenna from the moment he met her. But he knows she doesn't do relationships because he sees her with different guys all the time.

McKenna didn't have an easy childhood; her mother didn't want her and her father was always working. So, she basically raised herself. After meeting Abbie and Abbie falling in love with Collin, McKenna meets Gavin and she would like more with him, but she knows it would never work. A relationship is not in the works for her, so she can be friends with him. Until the one thing happens that will connect them together.

Can Gavin show McKenna that they can make a relationship work? Will she realize that she really does love him? Will Gavin's past came back to haunt him?

To me, this was the best of the series, I loved everything about Gavin and the way his friends were always there to help him. And the ending was a perfect way to end the series. So, sit back and enjoy and you can read them as a standalone, but why would you, they are great as a series.

Recklessly Ever After is the third and final book in the Reckless Heart series. Now is Gavin's turn to finally find love! I've been eagerly awaiting Gavin and McKenna's story since I finished The Right Kind Of Reckless. This man has legit been on my mind.

Both Gavin and McKenna share similar childhood traumatic stories. Both grew up in loveless homes and both in one way or another have suffered abuse leading to insecurities as adults. I legit felt so sad for these two, my heart broke. Especially after a one night stand leads to a pregnancy!

I have to admit, the main reason I requested an arc of Recklessly Ever After is because of the one night stand resulting in pregnancy trope! Babies make everything that much more emotional!

Overall, I liked this novel but I didn’t love it as much as I loved Max and Lia’s story.

We meet Gavin and McKenna when they get stuck in a hospital elevator together. These two already know each other thanks to mutual friends. We instantly learn that Gavin is half in love with her and she doesn't do any types of commitment.
Honestly, I was sucked in at chapter one. the next three chapters did nothing for me and I wanted to quit. But I plowed through and am glad I did because I was hooked again!
Once you get to chapter 5, this book is SO GOOD!
After one night together and a few weeks later. BAM - McKenna finds out she is pregnant!

Have I gained your attention?

McKenna doesn't want to keep the baby and Gavin does. Talk about a reverse role type of book since it is usually the mom wanting to keep the baby and not the dad.

Great ending. That's all I'm saying.

This is book 3 in the series. It can be read on its own, but I feel like you miss out on the prior stories. Both prior stories were good ones and also worth reading.

I have to say that I loved this book. I love a book I can be surprised by and this book did surprise me in many ways. First the main character Gavin is a broken man. He is an ex-marine and he has his demons he fights daily. He is living day by day and his friends help him out. They are so supportive I loved them right off the bat.

McKenna has had a hard life and she is no joke. She is rough and tough and does not take crap from anyone. Even though she is tough she is a nurse. That surprised me because she has this tough exterior. I love how she is in total control of her life. Choosing to have one night stands and no relationships was awesome in my eyes because she knew she was not commitment material so she chose to chew and screw and be done.

When these two meet there is chemistry between them and McKenna decides to give Gavin one night no strings attached. But after Gavin has her once he knows he has to have her everyday in his bed and by his side. He knows it is going to be a fight but he is determined to not give up and fight for McKenna.

Can Gavin win over the tough as nails McKenna or will he be another notch on her belt?

Gavin and McKenna are perfectly, imperfect. He sets carefully placed boundaries to keep him on course. She lives in the moment. Apart they are two halves of a whole. Together they become a combustible force that is destined to have lasting consequences. Recklessly Ever After is a walk on the wild side. In our minds, we think we have life all figured out until fate surprises us by changing all of our plans. Fleet turns temptation into forever and shakes up the heart along the way.

Recklessly Ever After is installment three in the Reckless Hearts series, but can be read as a standalone. And let me tell you, Heather Van Fleet really knows how to grab your attention. I was instantly hooked to this book from page one.

McKenna and Gavin are both so much alike yet so different. McKenna has so many issues and does not do relationships. Gavin too, has his issues yet he wants a future, a future with McKenna.

Is it possible when you have two characters that need to overcome their past? Let go of their issues?

I was drawn in by both McKenna and Gavin. McKenna did grate my nerves a bit, but you learn to love her. Gavin is hard not to love from the beginning. The roles really reversed when their one night of no string passion turns into an unexpected pregnancy. Usually it is the woman who feels and reacts in certain ways, yet in Recklessly Ever After it is not. I was so enthralled by the emotions from both McKenna and Gavin.

If you want to read a great book with a plethora of emotions, read this one. I will definitely be one clicking and re-reading after release day.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

This was my first time reading this author, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect going in. Unfortunately, I was rather bored with the story, despite the potential I could see within it and the rest of the series.

I loved the "Three guys and a baby" premise! That had me wavering between a 3 and a 2 star rating right there! However, there really wasn't enough done with it for my tastes, and, due to the fact that I hadn't read the rest of the series like I had intended to, often left me confused. It definitely felt like I had to read the previous books first before getting full enjoyment out of this one!

I had a hard time connecting to the characters. Gavin and McKenna each have their own issues, but they felt forced together for the sake of seeing how much "crazy" they could be together. I liked Gavin much better than McKenna, as she was just too intensely crazy for me to be able to connect with.

I wasn't impressed with the book enough to go back and read the previous books in the series, nor do I think I will read the author again.

McKenna is hands down the star of this show. Her internal struggles and complicated life makes her so damn relatable that I doubt anyone who reads this won't be able to relate in some way. It was also so refreshing to see the female lead as the one with the inner turmoil and chaotic backstory - I often read of the males being designed like this, especially in contemporary romances. Gavin's loyalty and love for her was so adorable and cherishing - it was nice to see a sensitive male after reading about a bunch of broody ones for a while lol.

This is the final book in a series and can be read as a stand alone, however, you'll appreciate that ending more if you read the first two books. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.

Gavin stole my heart. He was such a great character that you cant help but fall in love with him flaws and all. Here we have this imperfect man with so much baggage that he is broken but yet he wants to be all in with Kenna. Kenna was a little annoying with her constant battle of wanting to be independent yet wanting to be with Gavin but she eventually grows on you. The storyline was well written and keeps you engaged through the whole book and now I am going back to read the other men's stories.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) This is the third book in this series, Gavin's book and we have been waiting for it. Gavin broke your heart with what he was dealing with and his memories. I wish they would have found some better for him than McKenna I was not a fan of hers and even though she finally reciprocated his love still wasn't crazy about her. But it was good to read of the past couples.

This is the final book in a trilogy. This was a good book. I loved the hero, Gavin. He is such a solid, upstanding man with a great heart. Kenna, the heroine, is a strong woman and is absolutely perfect for him. They bring out the best in each other. Add some vibrant secondary characters, and it makes it a really good book to read. I will definitely be reading the first two books in the trilogy.

A cute story, with a role reversal in dealing with the major conflict of the book. This was a welcomed change for me, as most authors write the dilemma the same way.

I loved Gavin's back story and all his little quirks. I loved how his friends really got him and didn't let him hide when that's what he thought he needed. Loved Kenna's character and her own inner conflict.

While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Gavin St. James has loads of issues. Between the horrors he had to deal with growing up to the things he saw while in the military, Gavin keeps to himself and his core group of friends. It is not until he is stuck in a broken elevator with McKenna that he finally opens to thought of love and a future. But McKenna is not looking for strings, she just wants quick sex and to walk away. When an unexpected problem arises and Gavin and McKenna are thrown together can these two learn to lean on someone else? Can they actually see a future together and get past their obstacles? With beautifully honest characters that have to deal with real world issues, this book was a great read. I instantly fell in love with Gavin and now need to read the other books in the series.

This book is amazing!! I could not put it down. I did not know how the author could top the others but she did it. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time and every chapter left me wanting more. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! Anyone looking for a steamy romance that is well-written look no further. I cannot recommend REA enough. It’s one of those books I wish I could read again for the first time. I’ll definitely read anything from this author!

A great way to finish a superb series. Love Collin, Max, and Gavin and they are the shining stars in this trilogy.

Both McKenna and Gavin have a lot of baggage and serious trust issues so their path to true love definitely isn't smooth. Their troubled childhoods had them reacting differently to the situation they found themselves in and it only endeared me to Gavin more.

Very well written, with plenty of angst and emotion, and a well-deserved HEA. Highly recommended.

Gavin has no filter, the man could be crude, "I looked up at her question, finding her bottom lip pulled between her teeth. “My stuff?” She nodded, eyes shifting briefly to my crotch again. “My ***k, you mean.” McKenna doesn't mind making her man late, “not yet. Max can wait,” I mumbled against his lips. Screw the fact that we were about to have an audience. I needed this man. Needed my man." Gavin's lady love knows how to rile him up, "she dropped my hand and grabbed the side of my pants, digging her fingers into my pockets. Goddarn, she was dangerous . “Nothing about what’s inside there is ever soft.” I liked this book, I fell in love with moody Gavin.

This book was a perfect ending to this series. Loved the dude banter and honestly...big burly men going all soft around a little girl? Still kills me every time. My heart broke for Gavin in this book, but I couldn't be happier he found his other half in Kenna. I'll miss the Reckless Hearts crew!

Gavin St. James carries a lot of wounds under his shield of armor, most of them from a unstable childhood, and then a few that he picked while serving in the military overseas; and you can't see the things he has witnessed without being a little closed off. He leads a fairly private life, most of the time he'd prefer to be alone, but occasionally he socializes with a close knit group of trusted friends; and has never really given much thought to settling down and opening his life to another person, to do so would expose a past he'd like to keep hidden.

But then a breath of fresh air blows into his life, and turns it upside down with her chaotic approach, and for the first time in his life he considers letting someone in... all the way in, and it's downright unsettling. The moment he met McKenna he knew she was it for him, but she doesn't do strings or forever's, she is more of a one and done kind of girl, she has no choice but to be that way, with the past she has endured. But he sees the potential they have, and is a very determined man, one who plans to be the first to convince her to stay.

Recklessly Ever After is an emotionally rich tale that that will tug on your heartstrings, and make you really feel the words, hurt and all! These characters were perfectly suited for one another, even if it took them some time to figure it out, but once they did it was nothing but fireworks... and of course some serious angst! These characters come bearing many flaws and old wounds, ones that often pushed them to their breaking points, but you could also see personal growth as the story progressed, which not only gave them a realistic quality, but also made them easy to connect to. This was a such pleasurable read, the story line emoted many feelings and swoons, and it kept me invested from start to finish. Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Gavin St. James is an EMT but also suffers from panic attacks after his time overseas and due to his experiences growing up. When he is stuck in an elevator with McKenna Brewer he is shocked by his attraction to her but the two are butting heads more than anything.

McKenna Brewer is not a relationship type of girl. Yet one night with Gavin has her questioning things and her future. But there are certain things that she knows for sure and settling down is one thing she is avoiding at all costs.

When Gavin discovers what Kenna is hiding will he convince her to change her mind and give it a chance?

This was a great book that I enjoyed from start to finish. It had some great moments of laughter but also enough sad moments to really attach you to the characters and want them to get the happiness that they truly deserve.

I really liked Gavin right from the beginning but as I got to learn more about his past my heart just went out to him and I really wanted him to get the happiness that he deserved. I was totally shocked at what happened to him with his uncle and then my heart broke with the accident.

I though Kenna was also a great character but I felt bad that she really didn't think to highly of her possibilities when it came to "family" with the way she grew up. I felt bad for everything that her sister Hanna went through and I was glad that Kenna was there for her.

I liked how Gavin was slowly able to earn the trust and heart of Kenna and prove so much to her through his actions and words. It was so great!

The end was great although I would have liked a tiny bit more in the epilogue on Kenna and Gavin themselves instead of it being from Collin's view.

This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the first two books and wasn’t confused. After reading this I want to read the first two though. Gavin had a hard childhood. His time in the military has left him a little broken. McKenna is wild and fiery and impulsive. She too had a hard childhood not quite like Gavin but hard no less. Gavin has wanted McKenna since he first saw her. One night Gavin decides to do what he wants regardless of an outcome he may not like. Gavin and Mckenna spend the night together. She flees the next morning. What she can’t flee is the outcome from their one night together. Gavin wants a future with McKenna. McKenna has sworn off men after several failed relationships. She has feels for Gavin and begins to wander if they could be happy with each other. She loves the way Gavin makes her feel and misses him when he isn’t around. But, is she willing to take a chance with Gavin. I enjoyed this book. I felt for both characters. Mckenna is a runner by nature. It scares Gavin but he hopes if he shows her over and over again how much he cares for her he will get her to stay still enough to feel too. All the characters in this series are fantastic. They are so real. They go through so much you can’t help but hope for them. This book is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. This book does have a happily ever after. I enjoyed reading McKenna realize many things about herself and what she wants. I look forward to reading the other books in this series. Great job Heather.

This is an incredible series that I personally think should be read in order to get the most enjoyment out of these wonderful, well-developed, amazing characters! I knew from the moment Gavin was introduced to us in Book #1 (Reckless Hearts) that I wanted to know what made him tick and we definitely got his story in Book #3. I knew he was a broken man and I knew I would cry tears and I wasn't wrong, but the journey was so well worth it! I would warn you that at first glance, you may not like McKenna's character all that much, but please stick with it, because the growth of these two broken souls is what makes this such an extraordinary read. I fell hard for Collin in Book #1, I laughed with Max and at Max in Book #2 (The Right Kind of Reckless) and Gavin broke my heart in Book #3. I grew to love their female counterparts even more throughout this whole series. And then there's Chloe-the glue that holds them all together--couldn't ask for a more perfect little person to round out this group of flawed, but all so sweet & sexy men. And let me say, the epilogue had me in tears, but it couldn't have been more perfect! Excellent 5+ star, contemporary romance series that I think is a "must read"! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I was waiting rather impatiently for the release of this book because I really loved the other books in this series about this trio of former marines who are living together to take care of little beaner, Collin's daughter Chloe since his girlfriend died.

Gavin is the last one of our guys who hasn't found love yet and he is the one who obviously needs help the most and he's also the one who makes it so hard for his friends to get closer, the one who cares so much for our little beaner but is scared to be left alone with her - well, let's just say that he has had a special place in my heart for some time now. And Mack...well, she was burned as well and has some major trust issues. These two are some hell of a package with all their insecurities and their problems and you can't help but feel for them, feel with them, encourage them to trust and not run away.

Gavin is the one hoping for forever but McKenna is the one girl who doesn't do forevers - except, well, there may be a little forever on its way that could just be the thing that convinces her to trust again.
I loved those two. I cried with Gavin and I cried with Mack, I laughed with them and I loved to see them together and I loved their chemistry - and most of all, I loved to see them find love and happiness!

I don't know what I expected from this but it played out differently. Gavin and Kenna were so much opposites, an introvert recluse and outgoing man eater. Gavin has his issues aside from his huge crush on Kenna. Not your typical hero, the alpha type but more organized routine simple life guy. Kenna is outgoing and commitment phobic. They were a unique combination to be honest. But they had playful moments that made them lighter.

That one moment solidified the attraction, one night changed everything. With Mckenna's walls and Gavin's own fears. Both have had bad pasts and became broken in their own way, more like misunderstood becauae they weren't cookie cutter. Good thing Gavin is patient and sweet he got through Kenna. He's not perfect but he's likable and a good hero. McKenna is a challenge but he can prove to her wrong.

The girl running is not that different just here she has the commitment issues. I liked the story like the other two in the series. It had a nice combination of sweet, funny and steamy. The little twist along the way added more depth to the plot. The guys friendship was strong and it paved the way for this story. The epilogue had closure and gave each couple a HEA.

Gavin was on my radar from the very beginning. I tend to be interested in the most baggage carrying character, the man who needs the most care and love.

Gavin and Kenna certainly had a lot of issues between the two of them but in this case, Kenna's certainly seemed to be much more difficult to work through. Gavin was so loving and made it clear what he wanted from Kenna.

Kenna had made some very bad decisions where men were concerned and in many ways, compromised her own ability to consent on many things. She chose men who were more about themselves and what they wanted and she ended up high and dry and very unhappy.

The biggest thing I took away from this was Gavin and his ability to give Kenna herself back. He constantly made sure that she knew she was in charge and had the ability to make her own decisions. Gavin was certainly a patient man and Kenna was a very spirited and determined woman, which Gavin loved about her.

I've really enjoyed this series and I'm sad that it is ending.
