Having survived a fierce life and death struggle with the demon lords, Dale has at last reunited with Latina. After safely (?) settling things with the First Demon Lord, Chrysos, the pair return to Kenneth and the others back in Kreuz, but... A prequel centered on Latina’s parents is also included in full with this 6th entry of the popular series!
This volume mostly covers Latina's parents. Their love story is so beautiful and sad. I ended up crying so many times while reading this. We finally get to learn more about Rag and Mov, and Latina's childhood. The writing is so good. This was the most emotional book out of the series so far. Grab some tissues.
This volume was ok, though obviously not as adventurous as volume 5. Kind of a calm down chapter. A lot of the first half is basically Latina learning about what Dale did to rescue her, including killing Demon-Lords that weren't necessarily "evil". Gregor and Rose feature a bit. The long lived buxom Elf (whose name escapes me right now) makes her presence felt early, kind of being a potential guiding force for Latina's future actions... But then I don't think a ton happens after that with her or Latina's resolution. Latina just cooks some good food for soldiers, then gets home and settles back in.
The second half is a flashback focusing on Mov, Smoragdi, and their children. Because of the nature of the flashback, it's a bit dull again because there aren't many adventures, most of it taking place in a single room underneath the temple. The story only captures two times when the girls got to go out (once an ill-conceived horror adventure into a gravesite by Mov, the other an Autumn festival). Even the devils' world itself, we do learn and see a bit of, but since it's the perspective of characters that are basically in hiding, most info is learned second (tell not show) and it's only major stuff that concerns Mov + the oracles and a tad bit of Demon-Lord stuff.
It just wasn't the most entertaining chapter. The love story was more of a "convenience" than any kind of impassioned love, so it was a bit weird. Like, Smoragdi only comes to love Mov greatly after the birth of their children, and Mov is still left with worries of inferiority.
