Being one of the most powerful enchanters ever and a woman doesn’t always have too many people giving Soraya Devil much credit… Even if most don’t have the balls to admit that to her face. That’s fine. She knows how to play the games and normally better than the people who start them.
Her coven of those tossed from the enchanter community always has a list of enemies, but when there’s a ghoul on the loose in Indianapolis, that’s way too close for people not to be upset. However, there seems to be a silver lining to the bad news when Soraya meets a sexy vampire working the case who is all about working closely during the case in any way she wants.
However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what’s on Soraya’s plate, leaving too much for her to juggle at once. Most of it’s good—like the possible expansion and new factory—but she is only one person. But when the people who care about her call in help, they might have added more than she can handle instead of helping.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
Soraya was definitely much more annoyingly obnoxious on my second read, and there was a lot of soap boxing about various political topics that didn't make me like her or her team. I had to take breaks every few chapters since I would get so irritated at the story line and her personality. I really didn't like how she liked to use the men around her (even if they were assholes) and think that she could do no wrong.
I ended up finishing Lingering Threats before I finished a re-read of this book, and my review for that book summed up my extra irritation at this one with all the similar over-used behavior phrases (muttered showed up 65 times!) and baby talk.
The main ghoul action plot was resolved pretty abruptly in an unsatisfying manner to me, but the main emotional plot with the vampires and Soraya's family were still enough to intrigue me to continue with the series, even if I wasn't a fan of how she used sex and her OP magical powers to throw her weight around.
As a note, the books so far aren't true reverse harem romances since there doesn't actually seem to be real permanent partners that she has a relationship with, just men that she enjoys sleeping with as one-offs or repetitively a few times until she's bored of them or they don't want her anymore.
There’s a not so subtle part of the book where 2 characters rant about book reviews. Saying a shitty book shouldn’t get a low review for a bad story but only for things like plot holes and errors etc.
⭐️⭐️ 2 / 5 – The Enchantress (Book 2) by Erin R. Flynn
I did enjoy this one slightly more than the first book; there were a few laughs and one genuine emotional moment that made me go 'aww' - but overall, the story still felt very disjointed. The pacing was messy; it constantly jumped from one crisis straight into another without a real breather. It felt like being tossed from one frying pan right into the fire, and not in a good way.
The book also needed more thorough editing. There were several spelling errors and missing words, which pulled me out of the story. I actually found it ironic that the author pokes fun at another writer for making similar mistakes - even mixing up a character name (Linc/Link) - and then does the same thing herself.
As for the characters: Soraya still hasn’t grown on me. I don’t find her likeable or compelling, and I can’t see that changing as the series goes on (though I suppose anything’s possible). Her connection with Linc didn’t feel that strong either. I get her loneliness by the end - “forever alone” vibes - but honestly, they hooked up a couple of times… whoopie doo. Not exactly a great romance arc.
She insisted on keeping things casual and made that perfectly clear to everyone - then turned around and got upset when it stayed casual. It’s hard to sympathize when she can’t even stick to her own boundaries...
Theo - why is he even here? He adds nothing to the plot. He’s got a kid he should be focusing on, but instead he’s just… filler.
Detective Hunt - honestly, can we just get rid of him and his toxic energy? He’s written as such a jerk that it’s hard to believe the author wants us to like him. It feels like there’s some heavy projecting going on in this series - like every male character has to be awful. The man-hating tone throughout the book is thick, and it’s hard to ignore.
And speaking of that - the ancient vampires. There’s just not enough depth or information about them to make me care. All we really know is that they’re all jerks too. . Victor and Andrew are both trash, and not in the fun kind of way.
I’ve really liked Flynn’s writing in other series, but this one? It’s been frustrating. The world has potential, but the characters and tone are making it hard to stick with.
This book was an amazing continuation of book one. The majority of this book was focused on a specific kind of supernatural creature, ghouls, and it was interesting to see how the coven, and the local human population deal with this new advancement. Soraya’s power is further explored within this book, and I loved seeing some of her limits be explored as well as showing how strong she is. Hunt is still confusing as hell, but I’m extremely interested to see how their relationship continues to develop. Hopefully, he manages to get his head screwed on straight and decides bow he feels about her. I really enjoyed seeing the vampire nest more at work and I think it will be interesting to see how Soraya’s relationship with Victor and Andrew develops. They have a complex history, and the little boy in a scene explore that further they have a complex history, and the little bonus scene gave us further insight into how their relationship started. I highly recommend this series, so go download book 1 now!!
I enjoy how Erin Flynn can give a non standard way of sexuality and respect (in that it's not found in many series or books in this genre) and pull it off so well. I think her writing style might have ruined other urban fantasy for me.
This is an exceptionally well written book and series, which matches everything i've read from Flynn so far, and as everything else she wrote, it's free on Kindle Unlimited.
This is definitely worth your time and money, but if you're not convinced without trying it, it's definitely worth your time.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, the main character, and the plot of the story. I liked finding more about her background and I really liked the extra chapter. Though personally I could do without the introduction of some of the politics. I read books to get away from all that, but I’m not the author and she can write whatever she wants, just my own personal opinion on that.
Like most of Flynn’s work, this features a strong Female main character with some flaws. I enjoyed the ebb and flow of this narrative, though I feel like I am missing a large chunk of back story as I haven’t read the other novels written under one of Flynn’s pen names, one of which features the first introduction of the enchantress, though the story is apparently about her soul twin, who is a male in another demension.
This is not my favorite series by this author that I Cann easily admit freely but I do like the concept of these books and how while she has the same creatures of some other series she changes the lore every time. That being said this story is well written and has a good plot and so far no plot holes!
I enjoyed this series. Was disappointed that it’s not finished, but it’s been good. I did feel like I got lost in the details of her businesses and day to day details. Enough so that it detracts a little bit. I didn’t really get sucked into the story, so I wouldn’t call it a page turner. It was worth reading, but not sure I want to invest more time into future books.
This newest Enchantress book is amazing. It shows us a little bit more about Soraya Devil. Shows Hunter trying to be different unknowingly even though he is confused when it comes to Soraya. Can’t wait for the next one.
I have enjoyed reading three of this author's series , Seraphine Thomas , Dr. Kelly Murphy and The Enchanttress . And I love all three !! They are all crazy good reading ! I can't wait for more !
I enjoyed the first book in this series. I love the second one more because there is more context and backstory. The characters are compelling and the plots devious.
As always spectacular I love the complexity of the plot how she thought out everything her mind is just so fabulous and all the thought an effort that she puts into her stories it just amazing
I think this is a brilliant second book in this series and I love how much some of the characters have developed as we get to know them better, and the extra chapter to see some of Soraya’s past is a fantastic idea.
This series has all the hallmarks of an Erin Flynn series. I do enjoy it but I can't help compare it to her others and find it lacking a little. Maybe it's the nature of the male characters flying in and out of the books?
Men can be such knuckleheads. The fact that Victor knew her for as long as he did and he still didn't see what he did is ridiculous. But venting aside I really like this series. Which isn't surprising because I like all of the other series of Erin Flynn.
From someone who COMPLETELY LOVES Erin's "Artemis University's" series this is my second favorite series of Erin's. Seriously love it and I hope there is more. I'm in love with all of our characters and how the series just sucks you right in.
The 2nd book was a much more pleasant read as there wasn't much jumping about. I'm excited to see what will happen with hunt. I also enjoyed the extra chapter which explained some of her past when she first arrived at the nest. Looking forward to reading the next book :)
The books are entertaining and just to my taste. This one is no exception and I still like the characters a lot. Even if I’m a bit sad about the two nice guys. I’m starting the next book right away and I feel like this will be a long and sleepless night, again, before I finish the book.
Loved this book!!!! Have just finished readying both book one and book two and I’m so glad I found this series. Soraya is awesome and I can not wait for the next book
While I admit to not loving this series as much as seraphine and garner series. This does have its own unique qualities that still makes me want to read more.
Thieves About is an excellent book two of The Enchantress series. I love the world Flynn created and the characters she’s included in it. Another great nook by Flynn.
Thoroughly recommend this author. All her series have strong characters & detailed plots. Genuinely cant put them down until I finish all the available books
