And So Can You!

Rate this book
“And So Can You” is a very inspirational book written by Dr. Roopleen. This book contains the success stories of 17 renowned doctors namely Virendra Sarwal, Ashok Khurana, Lingam Vijaya, Muralidhar V. Pai, Krishna R. Murthy, Suresh K. Pandey, Jyotirmay Biswas, Barnali Das, Mahipal S. Sachdev, Praveen R. Murthy, Anita Panda, Jas Kohli, Dhanashree Ratra, Sarbjit Singh, Vidushi Sharma, Vinay R. Murthy and Sundaram Natarajan.
It’s indeed a must read for all those young hearts aspiring to become doctors and also the other people in general who think that all the doctors are corrupt and they don’t feel, because firstly doctors are humans too, and not every doctor is bad, they sacrifice their personal lives to give birth and rebirth to others lives.
Everyone knows that it takes a lot to become a good doctor, but what people think is that the big fat books are the only hurdles. But the truth is, the books are only a petty thing, the circumstances and plot twists of life is the real struggle.
In the book we get to read about seventeen different doctors who had their fair share of struggle and all went through equal ups and downs. Their lives offered them different types of barriers in the way to their goals but one thing is there that they all have in common- None of them gave up. They continued to fight through the worst of situations. Even when the world were against them, they kept holding on to their dream. And they all worked hard and put in a lot of effort to get where they are today. Nothing in life comes without a price. They paid the price through immense hard work and now life is paying them back with success and happiness.
I feel that the book is not only inspiring for to be doctors but also for other students from any stream and subject. Because the point of the book is the struggle to reach success not just the struggle to become doctor. The book also contains quotes and advice for the medical students. It warns them of the pros and cons. It is the best feeling in the world to give someone life but then there js sacrificing of personal time, family time, vacations, and yes again, there’s a lot of dedication and hard work required. It’s a full package and a complete punch of knowledge and motivation.
The stories are destined to stir hearts and motivate souls. Every journey is aspiring in it’s own way. The hurdles were strong, but the will power and self motivation was stronger. It’s very easy to give up but then once you give up the rest of your lives you have to struggle to make a living. You struggle now, the rest of your lives will contain only flowers.
Overall I’d like to rate this book 9/10. It was a good and satisfying read after a long time.

And so can you! By Dr. Roopleen Prasad is a non – fiction book. I rarely read non – fictions but I read this one and I’m glad that I did. It was not as interesting as a fiction book so you won’t be able to read it constantly. Even I finished the book in almost one month, reading the stories slowly – slowly but when I was done I gained something, just like the author said.
This book is a collection of 17 stories about real – life successful and famous doctors. In these stories, you will find what those doctors had to go through to became what they are now. This book captures their struggles, hardships, hard – work and wisdom. This book gives inspiration to not only Doctors and medical aspirants but to everyone who wants to learn something. The knowledge is not limited to only one group. Anyone can book this book and that too easily as the language and the narration in the book was very simple and plain because making it complicated would only hinder the reading process. Author has used simple and understandable vocabulary so you need not to worry that this book will have many medical terms. They are understandable. This book will work as the confidence booster as after reading so many stories you will think If they can, why can’t I?
I like the cover and after seeing it you can easily understand what is the content of the book. The book was a good read for me.

" Success isn't just what you accomplish in your life, it's about what you inspire others to do. "

Every profession comes with its own manual and instructions. Nothing is simple and easy in life, one has to do sheer hardwork to attain success in his/her selected career. Earlier people used to choose either Chartered Accountancy , Doctorate or  Engineering as their profession but today's youth has plenty of options to choose from. Still the profession of Doctor holds a significant importance in our country.

Every day we hear incidents where someone is either ill or tries to ends his/her life or sometimes ends in an accident- the doctors are the person who acts like a messiha and save the lives of the people. They are considered as the living gods, giving new lives to people. The author in her book has written short inspiring stories of the doctors who have made big with their hardwork even after having limited access to the resources.

Not everyone is born with a silver spoon, some people have to go through many struggles to make a mark in the society. The book contains stories of common people not rich but wealthy by heart who with their dedication and love for humanity chose Medicine as their profession. The book is a beautiful read with such inspiring stories.

" Hardwork is the price we must pay for success. You can accomplish anything if you are willing to pay the price."

The language used by the author is easy but there are some terms which a doctor or a person pursuing medicines can understand better than a layman. The stories are short and after end of each story there are some useful  tips given by the doctors. Though me being of commerce background wasn't able to connect much but the book is a perfect read for a medical student.

‘And So You Can’ by Dr. Roopleen is a collection of inspiring stories of 17 doctors and their journey towards success. This book is not only inspiring for the medical students but also to others who are looking for some inspiration in their life. The book involves the stories about the background of these doctors, the hard work they have put towards achieving their goal, their failures and their success.

Every chapter is dedicated to a particular doctor and highlights the personality trait which each doctor possesses. The story tells us what has gone into the making of each doctor and how they have thrived to reach where they are now and make an impact on the society through all the tough competition and the hardships they have faced. The stories shows us that not everything in life comes easy and each and every one has to thrive for success and one can achieve success only if one has the vision, passion, determination, self-belief, perseverance, tenacity and a never say die attitude to move forward whatever the conditions be. A doctor’s profession is considered as a sacred profession and people in India also believe a doctor as a God but the doctors never let it go to their head and work humbly with dedication as their job is very straining and it is their responsibility to save the lives of people. These 17 doctors didn’t have much resource, but they never looked back and focused on bettering themselves each day and were determined to press forward until they accomplished their goals. Each doctor advices one to be humble and be down to earth and one can get to learn from their experiences that hardships haven’t made them bitter but have bought out the best of them. We also see that after achieving the success there are people who blame the doctors or don’t have the patience during the treatment but then too the doctors don’t lose their patience and put all the efforts to treat a patient. To know more about the journey of these highly successful doctors read And So Can You.

What I liked about the book:

Though this book has been highlighted as ‘A book every doctor and medical student must read’ I personally feel that it is a book which everybody should read it will surely charge a person and make a person determined to achieve his goal. Each story has been beautifully narrated and the language is simple and lucid. Each story has something new and different and also shows how these doctors through their hard work could achieve their goal and how they emphasize on the fact if they could achieve their so can other people too achieve success through their hard work and dedication can achieve anything and nothing is impossible in this world even the word itself IMPOSSIBLE is I M POSSIBLE. The stories also tell a person to look at the world differently and listen to your heart and put in all the efforts that no one can doubt your efforts. The best part of the book is the part where advice to young and aspiring doctors and takeaway – words of wisdom.

Overall, I have truly enjoyed this book and would surely recommend this book to everybody who’s looking for some inspiration in life.

🔹And So Can You is a book that comprises the journey of 17 successful doctors.

🔹Of course the stories are inspiring. We only see the success of a person but the hard work, the obstacles and the challenges behind the success are often ignored. So, it is nice to read and know about some of the jewels of our country.

🔹 Writing style is simple & undersatandable.

🔹 Each story ends with some advices and some inspirational words which can be read even after you complete the book.

🔹 The narration is not good and it can make you feel bore sometimes. I think the narration style should be very strong in Non fictional book

🔹I didn’t feel to read the book in one go but it is good to read with some combinations.

So when I write this review it is going to be from 2 perspectives, hope the readers for this review are a little patient.
As the book recommends “Every Doctor and Medical student must have” I tested it on my sister who is a doctor, She found it very relevant relatable. Thus I realized for the first time that people in medical profession don’t really have any light go to read for them, we get a lot of realistic, damsel in distress and all kind of books but this kind of literature barely exist and hence it was a huge go to for my sister.
As for me, I will make sure I don’t give away any spoilers but Each time a story started I was melted away in their first lines itself, may it be “All phenomenal story has a beginning, A middle, an end” or “Difficulties and challenges have a way of stopping most people from achieving their goals.” Now I have read all the stories just once but the format of it creates such impact that I can remember the first lines from the entire story as I am writing this.
The format of narration is super fresh and really new to me and I as an avid reader totally loved it. Having a soft corner for short stories I obviously enjoyed it, but as a reader not from the profession could totally understand the flow of the story and the message the writer was trying to convey through these 17 stories. Adding an Introduction of each doctor at the start of each story as a smart move, It made me easily relate to the story and all the elements big or small involved and understand their emotions much better. So next time I want to read it I can simply flip pages and read the story I wish to. Yes, this book is worth reading N number of times. The contents of the book helped me gain a lot of perspective as to how I see things and hence will remain close to me for a long time now.
Another element that I loved about the book is the addition of a proper preface with little briefs so I was prepped about what I was about to read. I miss it in most of the books these days and find it only in vintage books and after a long time in this one.
Further, I couldn’t find any loop in the language and this is probably the first time I am saying for any book that I received for review. So I would like t to thank the Author for respecting every reader’s time by putting forth real and relevant content. I will be looking forward to more from Dr. Roopleen.

And so can you is a collection of inspirational stories shared by well known doctors from all over the country in different streams of medical science. The book tells about some ordinary people who did extraordinary things in their lives. This is the second book of the author which I have read and I really liked the writing style and presentation of the author.

The book very nicely defines that nothing is impossible and no matter how many obstacle you face, if you have determination, you can overcome any obstacles. The author also tells that facing challenges isn't a failure . One needs to keep their dream as the priority and must work hard towards it and this will ultimately lead to success.
The best part about the book is how seamlessly the author has explained the real life struggles of each author without trying to add on anything artificially. The things are expressed in the natural way and that makes the reader to connect instantly with each story.

The book altogether has a different positive aura. The cover of the book is plain red with the title of the book written in bold . The stethoscope clearly gives a hint to the readers as to what the book revolves around. The blurb of the book is crisp and gives a clear insight about the content of the book. The language of the book is lucid and easy to comprehend.

It appeared to me that the book is only for the doctors and the medical students but when I read it I was proved completely wrong. Though it has motivational stories of doctors but it has much more to offer to each reader. So if any reader is looking for an inspirational read , then this book is surely going to give to the required kick.
A nice read.

And so can you

I liked the way how every story begins. It gets accompanied by the story of a successful author & famous personalities incorporated in every field making the book quite a realistic approach to read! Editing has been done well. I could hardly find any grammatical errors here.
Cover is nice & well designed.
Title is appropriate considering the context given here.
The book encompasses 17 stories in total. Each talking about the journey of the characters given here.
I'm not a fan of nonfiction books much. However, there're times when I found many books, works pertaining to this pertaining to this genre rather interesting. However, I was disappointed in this aspect here with this book. Found it turbulent & disturbing due to the following factors I've highlighted here.

1. Narration is skeptical & boring.
2. Language is too simple, pales in comparison to the concept presented here.
3. It failed to touch me. Because I felt I'm reading some documented work from wikipedia or encyclopedia.
4. The work extrapolated here could have been improved considering the fact that if subtle, riveting & some smooth touch or flow could have been added which would have given the book, the much needed punch requisite enough to render it interesting enough!

And So can You by Dr. Roopleen is a collection of 17 successful stories. I will not say that, it's the story of 17 successful "doctors", as this book not only says about how they became doctors but it says about their passion for the thing they wanted. Every person faces the "struggle" phase, if he/she wants to achieve something and this book will surely guide you to face that phase.

"And So Can You" is the apt title for book. If those 17 common people can become successful Doctors, SO CAN YOU. Author has used very simple language, so that you can easily connect to the story. One thing I found common in every story, that every doctor comes from a small village of Haryana, Rajasthan, etc. They were just having dreams when they were young, but they worked too hard to turn their dreams into reality. This book is very inspirational.

Book Cover: That stethoscope. It is doing some injustice to readers from non-medical field. There are many readers who buys book just because of book cover. Sometimes, even I do that. But if some non-medical reader have a look on book cover, he/she may reject the book. That is why it has been said that 'do not judge book by its cover'.

Overall, its a must read book.

Book Title: And So can you
Writer: Dr. Roopleen
Genre: Motivational

This book holds the inspiring stories behind the lives of 17 successful doctors. Each of these stories teaches us how to maintain strong balance in between personal and professional life, by living on their ethics. This is not a quick read type book. It will take some time but is going to stay with you for a longer time. Writing style is simple and easily understandable.

Each story deals with some amazing traits of doctors, their struggles, the path they followed on their road to success. This book is not just for "DOCTORS", any person can relate it to. I am an engineering student but can very easily relate to Dr. Ashok Khurana's struggles while trying to convince his father. I was also impressed by Dr. Dhanashree Ratna's determination and Badnami Dad's never give up attitude.

With the end of each chapter all those advices by successful doctors are really helpful. And the inspiring lines throughout the book are appreciable.

My rating of Dr. Roopleen's 'And So Can You' is 4*/5*. A must go book for all types of student readers like me.

The title of this book 'And So Can You' itself is so motivating. The book cover mentions that the book is a must read for every doctor and medical student. However, I feel that the stories that can inspire others shouldn't be categorised as must read for certain sections/professions but should be read by one and all. As the cover reads, this book contains 17 inspiring stories of Doctors from various areas of medicine.

Reading life stories of people has always been an amazing thing to me. It's like they are sharing a part of their lives with me. The challenges they faced, their struggle and how they overcame all the obstacles is indeed very motivational for me. This book has 17 such inspiring tales that will make you believe that success comes after hardwork. It is the fruit of their hard work, their dedication, their faith and their hope.

If you are feeling uninspired or dull or feeling lost, this book will spark up that flame in you which will push you towards getting started towards your goals. It is an amazing read.

I rate this book with 3.5/5 stars.

I read the book And So Can You by Author Roopleen and I am so so happy that I read this book , and that too when I much needed motivation to work hard in my life. In this book Dr. Roopleen shares the success stories of 17 doctors and these stories will inspire all medical students and other readers. These stories talks about the background of these doctors, about their inspiration to become doctors, their hard work, their failures and then their success.

Each chapter or every story is named with the special personality trait that each doctor possess. We get to read what has gone into the making of these finest doctors. Ofcourse it wasn't easy for them to carve a niche for themselves in this competitive world because their roads to success were paved with hardships and doctor's profession is considered as one of the sacred professions and they have the biggest responsibility to save lives of people. Their jobs are immensely straining jobs. These 17 doctors had no role-models to look upto and not much resources, but they never indulged in self-pity, rather they were tough-minded, they focused on bettering themselves every day and they were determined to press forward until they accomplished their goals. They made tough decisions that shaped their lives.
There are some common key traits in all these doctors which have helped them to achieve success and secure a place in their patient's heart. Here I would like to share those key traits:
Even after having accomplished so much, they remain humble and grounded. They never allow let fame go to their head.
They all learnt to view failure as an equally important teacher as success. They have lived
They all tried to keep them in a positive frame of mind and all the doctors worked towards their goal with their heart and soul and with infinite patience with patients.
Hardships haven't made them bitter; they have only brought out the best of them.
They had burning desire to enhance their professional skills which kept them going.
They all believed that passion for work is the quintessential trait for practising medicine.
They believed money can never be primary goal or the driving force in their profession but their aim is to deliver the best treatment to their patients. They believe in meaningful success and not material success.
"In times of self-doubt, reflect on your journey this far. Remind yourself of the difficulties and setbacks you faced and how you came out stronger. That will provide you the inner strength to go on."

Author has really interviewed these doctors very well by asking the pertinent questions. When asked what are their rewards in a profession? One of the doctors beautifully answers the question~
"You are emotionally rewarded each time you treat a patient well. This is positive reinforcement.
It gives inner strength and stability you will require ."

After every success story, there is advice given by these doctors to young and aspiring doctors. There are takeaway--words of wisdom at the end of every story and these words of wisdom are really helpful for all readers.

HOW THIS BOOK HELPED ME:
Reading this book fully charged me with motivation to work towards my goals with renewed passion. I got to learn lot of important things from the stories of these successful doctors. This book will inspire many to walk the path of determination and hard work. Their stories of hard work, sacrifice and dedication make us believe that if they can achieve and so can we!

Starting from the cover of the book is beautiful and creatively designed. The letter ‘ Y ‘ of the title is replaced by Doctor’s stethoscope with red background. The Title of the book “And So Can You!” is inspiring and positive and the sub-title says A Book Every Doctor And Medical Student Must Read but I believe this book is must read for everyone whether it’s reader or non-reader, student’s, medico, teachers and those who are struggling with life. This book gives a positive spirit and motivation to achieve the goal with hard work and determination.

If at all God exists on earth ,then it’s in the form of doctors. They are those people that makes the patients life easier by their demeanor, they disguise the seriousness of illness while treating them carefully yet encouraging the patient. A doctor relaxes a patient in pain with his words and medicines and heals them gradually. The healing is not only internal ,it’s also the healing of the shattered mind. It’s uplifting the tattered soul once broken with disappointment from negativity.

A doctor being true to his oath and his responsibilities uses his utmost capabilities of serving people without caring about his own life and health. During treatment of infection he might as well get infected and lose his life but his spirit is so determined to treat and heal people who the doctor gets submerged in his /her duty and restore faith in human .

The book is a collective biography of 17 inspiring doctors from all over the India. The plot consists of 17 stories of doctors and each deal with unique ways the doctors struggled to their way to success, which include topics like Tenacity, Ever Onward, Self Belief, Bouncing Back,Fighting Spirit, Perseverance, Passion, Never Give Up, Fire in the belly, Positive Attitude, Resilience, Firm Resolve, Determination, Fortitude, Courage, Survival Instinct, Never Say Die.

Each of the biography starts with a color photo of the doctor along with their name, education, designation which is very helpful to know about the doctor and followed by one inspiring quote. Then starts with childhood, family background, how they studied and got admission to medical college, post-graduate studies and their career decisions and what encouraged them to be a part of Nobel profession. At the end of each unique and inspiring stories of doctor there is a part of “Advice to young and Aspiring Doctors” and “Takeaway – Words of Wisdom” by the individual doctors.

The words were simple and the language is lucid which eased the reading. The narration is cool, engaging and educating. The book is free from any grammatical errors and has been perfectly edited. Every chapter is inspiring about a real life story of a doctor, who reflects his struggles and the never-ending enthusiasm.

“Success is sweet when you know you have worked hard for it and have made yourself worthy of it. You might not win every time, but try you must. ‘Don’t throw it away without a fight.’ If you win, you will rejoice, if you don’t, you would have the satisfaction that you tried to the best of your ability and that is the most important thing – to rise in your own eyes.”

Kudos to the doctor cum author for penning down this book.

Highly Recommended it’s a must read for all.

Dr Roopleen is back again with another blockbuster. This book is nothing less than sharing some of the stories of unsung heroes who lives amongst us performing their duties without any expectations. This book is a genuine attempt to bring to us these heroes who has taken up the noble profession - Medicine.

While many of us use to complain about various aspects of a physician which includes consultation fee charges, attention given to the patients, misleading them with evasive replies, referring to unnecessary tests including scans etc., we must also agree that this is not widely prevalent and even if it did, the control is always in our hands by complaining to the authorities concerned.

Through this book, you would enter into the lives of 17 physicians who are revered in their own field. What is really touching is to get to read in detail as to how these physicians struggled to come up in their lives. Out of 17, I found majority of them were into Ophthalmology though I am not complaining about it because each and every story is unique.

I liked the way the author has approached to present these real life stories in an interesting way as possible. There were no exaggerations but only the real facts and figures that these physicians have come across in their life. While this book is not attempting to glorify a specific set of physicians among the wide range of others, it is a genuine attempt to cover some of the best personalities which is really appreciable.

Though the book says that it is a must for every doctor and a medical student, I feel that this is a must for everyone especially the students because when they do read this book, it would inspire them to take up this noble profession for sure. Since we as a country is lagging greatly with regards to number of physicians which we require every year, I am sure that this book would go a greater extent in inspiring the youngsters to take this up as their career.

What I have liked the most about this book is the section which comes at the end of each inspiring story "Advice to young and aspiring doctors" and "Takeaway - Words of Wisdom" which were given by the respective doctors/physicians. Since they are by far one of the most successful professionals in their respective field, these words would go a long way in helping the youngsters to come up in their life.

Author has covered 17 different aspects by corresponding them to the respective doctors which includes Tenacity, Ever Onward, Self Belief, Bouncing Back,Fighting Spirit, Perseverance, Passion, Never Give Up, Fire in the belly, Positive Attitude, Resilience, Firm Resolve, Determination, Fortitude, Courage, Survival Instinct, Never Say Die which would be applicable in each and every person's life in different stages.

Each story is Inspiring. Unique and most importantly carries a message.

COVER
The cover is a simple one with a red background and a stethoscope, but still looks beautiful and attractive.

BLURB
The blurb is catchy and compels one to read the entire book in one go.

STORYLINE
The book comprises 17 stories of success that will surely inspire you. These are stories of doctors who struggled with challenges in their professional life, bravely faced obstacles and made it through because they believed they had a dream to fulfill and a mission to accomplish.
The book tells us stories of successful doctors in different field and what was that one thing which kept them moving and did not let them give up.
The first story is of Dr. Virendar Sarwal, named 'TENACITY'. It tells how all success stories have a beginning, a middle, an end, and most importantly, a lot of ups and downs along the way. The story mentions incidents from Dr. Virendar's life along the journey of his life where he met with numerous challenges and had to make courageous decisions. The story includes his life as a MBBS student and also as a doctor.

In the book, there is also a story named 'FIGHTING SPIRIT'. Dr, Krishna Murthy's story is like most of the success stories that we come across, , those which are rooted in struggles and challenges. For him, life has been a constant learning curve. In his journey to success, he has experienced it all: the rocky road, the difficult times, the struggles, stumbling over, the missteps and mistakes committed. But he kept on moving. With his resolve to put up his best fight, his willingness to introspect, and learn from his mistakes, he has turned the tide in his favor, putting himself on the fast road to excellence and distinction. He was the son of a doctor father and a homemaker mother, who were his biggest support system. His dad's idea of letting him live life in his own way; and the time spent with his mother were the prime reasons for achieving his goals. Dr. Krishna has won many battles, and yet there is so much for him to achieve. He knows it that when he sets his eyes on something, nothing can stop him from achieving it.

One more story in the collection is 'NEVER SAY DIE', which obviously has a deep meaning. It is the story of Dr. Sundaram Natarajan, who is a senior vitreoretinal specialist. Both his father and grandfather were renowned eye surgeons, and hence ophthalmology was in his genes. The initial years of his childhood were spent in a small village, and he has many fond memories from that phase of his life. He later moved to Madras and was about to continue his studies in a school there. He was always inclined to academics. But along with this, he wasn't positive at all and and was a cry-baby. Circumstances were such that he developed an inferiority complex. His parents tries their best to encourage him and taught him to be confidant. His father, along with his grandfather, taught him the anatomy of human eye. After boards, he gave entrance exams targeting various medical colleges. He was the only UG student who used to wear a tie to college. After finishing MBBS, he applied for a postgraduate course in Ophthalmology. Once he was scolded by his senior during his training duration. That day proved to be life changing for him.He made up his mind to learn everything from scratch and resolved to become the best vitreoretinal surgeon. Later he moved to Bombay for medicinal practice. He had no one to help him in Bombay. He still managed to emerge out of the struggle filled path because of his hard-work, enthusiasm and determination.

And So You Can, this book isn't the usual kind of non-fictional book. This book is something different, it is motivational, it is inspirational and it re-energizes you. When I received the book, to be honest, I was not that intrigued, but after I finished reading it, I actually understood the reason behind writing such a beautiful book. And So You Can by Dr. Roopleen, she is the author herself and she has made sure of taking such stories which not only inspires you but also encourages you to handle problematic scenarios. This book is an accumulation of 17 stories, 17 experiences, 17 struggles and 17 achievements.

Becoming successful is easy but sustaining that is what takes the toll on you. This book revolves around various such stories in which after getting the success, the struggle to keep it intact without damaging anyone, is something worth the read. This book doesn't only talk about the achievements and goals but also defines the hardships and struggles faced by these marvelous doctors. A journey through their hard career leads to building up rather unique characters. Reading this book will not only make you go through various experiences but also these experiences and teachings will help you in your day to day life struggle.

What I really liked about this book was the stories that have been chosen by the author, Dr. Roopleen. Also, the writing skill of the author is so beautiful, everything actually works out and they all are in a smooth flow. Thus the issue of heavy reading or intensity isn't there which makes it all the easier to read. The way the book has been written, the way the author has composed it, you can actually feel what each and every one of the characters has been going through.

And So You Can by Dr. Roopleen is my first ever non-fiction review and I am so happy to do it. This book is recommended to everyone but especially for those who are going to start their specialty career.

While the book focuses majorly on one profession, the motivational stories are for everyone to learn from, how not to lose focus even when life throws many challenges. The book is not for a one time read but one that we can go back again and again to draw motivation, stories which remind how very ordinary people can reach great heights of success with focus, hard work, and determination. A must read and one that will be constant source of inspiration to go back everytime in need of. Highly recommended!!

"Success is never easy" as it is rightly said. In today's time, everyone is chasing success and working hard to get to the pinnacle. Every success story has two secrets. That secret is hardwork and never give up spirit. Other than that, efforts courage perseverance determination are also the contributors of success. In order to remind everyone of these success secrets, Dr. Roopleen brings up 17 such success stories of Doctors from different walks of life in her book, "And So Can You!".
The title of the book instills inspiration and motivation in the reader of having the ability to do any task, achieve any target, make any dream come true by sheer perseverance and dedicated attention. The author again and again reinforces the fact that hard work always pays off the only condition is that it takes time and patience. She has brilliantly chosen quotations about success and places them at the beginning of the stories. This can only give a glimpse into the extremely positive personality Dr. Roopleen is. At the end of every story there is a section of "Advice to young and Aspiring doctors" and another section of "Take away words of wisdom". Although the author's idea if you give advice to young aspiring future doctors but the applicability of all that advice can can apply to other people belonging to different professions also.  this is what widens the appeal of the book opening it to readers of every background. Everyone can read them and apply them in their lives. Through the stories the author says that life can throw challenges, barriers, hurdles and obstacles in front of anyone at any point of time but no one should give up and should stay ready to face them, to take tough decisions and stay determined to accomplish their goals. she also highlights that there is always a driving force which motivates the people to do do what they dream to do and also the fact that as children their minds are impressionable and easily influenced.
Almost all the stories feature doctors who, under exceptionally unfavorable circumstances fought all odds with determination and emerged victorious by excelling in their fields. Although the stories are about people who belong to the medical profession but it is applicable to all those who are working hard to achieve a specific target or any dream or any purpose they have in mind. So one way of looking at that could be that the book is for people who are looking for inspiration or for real life examples. They can find genuine people from humble backgrounds  who made it to the best of their abilities in one lifetime.
Most of the stories are of doctors who were kids in newly independent India. From this perspective, the reader can also understand the socioeconomic conditions of the people who struggled very hard and made sacrifices for the comforts and good quality life they enjoy today. The stories more sound like wisdom acquired from experience being written about and being left as a legacy for future generations to look upon. Also the reader gets an idea about the life of ordinary Indian household and all the sacrifices that family members make for the better future of their children and how they invest on their education and try their best to give them all the facilities and comforts that are affordable to them.
The author has given interesting titles to all the stories and somewhere the basic message is  to stay positive and do not give up without winning. Picking up one story and categorising that are the best one  would not be justified rather every story in itself has a beauty which distinguishes it from the rest. To certain extent reading the stories in the book of all the people can change a person's perspective from pessimistic to optimistic.
Perhaps the most interesting fact about the book is the way in which the stories are narrated. They at times sound like bed time stories for children where even though it is all non fiction but the element of going back to the doctor's childhood and recording his/her life from there is what ignites the reader's imagination. Most importantly, the stories end on a positive, victorious note and that is likely to cast a good effect on the minds of children. The language and vocabulary of the book is simple and easy to read. The book can be read by people from all walks of life belonging to possibly all age groups irrespective of the fact that they are a student or professionals or retirees.
Categorizing this book understand "motivational literature" would be more like doing injustice to it. The book features the stories of real people who struggled through real difficulties and faced their circumstances bravely. In that sense, calling it "non-fictional literature for motivation" would be a better categorization.

Book Review  by Literoma Publishing Service -" And So Can You "
Author- Dr Roopleen
Genre  - Personal Development and        Self Help.
Published by Power Publishers
Rating  - 5 *
This book "So Can You" starts with a positive note and the red cover gives the readers a feeling of brightness and power.
As one proceeds through the book we get to know how deserving the title is .
It takes us through 17 stories of 17 doctors and their journeys of life.
The book heralds the message not only to  aspiring young medical students but to all people who are fighting their own battles whether it's personal or professional.
The author  narrated us the stories of these 17 doctors, their struggle, hardship, success ,failure ,achievements ,frustration and moments of elation.
The author Dr Roopleen is herself a doctor and being born in a family of doctors felt the strong urge to let people know what a "doctor" goes through before he gets the degree ,how he fights with the forces of life to save another one,his or her happiness when a patient survives and lows when they fail being successful and suffers abuses sometimes .
The story of different doctors belonging to different states of India and comes with their unique stories.
Few examples:
Dr Virender Sarwal- a cardio thoracic and vascular surgeon , how he worked as a junior doctor to learn more on surgery. His undeterred ambition  even in a financial crunch kept him strong to achieve all what he wanted.
Dr Ashok Khurana who had a humble beginnings from a small town in Haryana .
His paternal grandmother and mother sowed in him the seeds to serve people and is now a senior professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology ,Rohtak.
His take on life is still to stay humble, accept the gratitude which his patients and students has to offer as " the feeling of being respected as a good human being" appeals to more than material success.
Several such inspiring stories of doctors tell us that to achieve in life one must not
i) Give up easily.
ii)There is no substitute to hard work.
iii)  When you feel low, look within for support as self confidence takes you a long way.
iv)Nurturing one's value and ability to stick on during hard times and contribute to society by doing quality work.
v) Be passionate about your own work and keep on trying as nothing is beyond reach.
The major lessons of life are described in this book in a simple ,story telling patterns and we feel encouraged while we read the book that if these successful persons had to try hard and battle adversaries we too can try our luck and reach out for the stars.
An extremely encouraging book by Dr Roopleen to inspire us and make us strong.

And So Can You
Dr Roopleen
2018. Pp- 261

This collection of stories from lives of modern day, successful authors is some read! They tell you about the successes, and the failures behind them, they tell you about the hard work and persistence it takes to reach at the top, and it tells you about the hurdles in the way.

More than stories, every snippet is a journey in itself. It is not only their life experiences that these doctors share with us, but how they became what they became and I think that is what matters the most.

After each of the 17 stories, there is a section where the respective doctor shares some words of wisdom and gives some advice as a takeaway.

As the author himself says and I quote, "You cannot go through this book and not take away something useful and worthwhile from it." and I couldn't agree more. Every write up gives something to you and this one has too. I'm no doctor, but I still think there is no particular group of people that this book is confined to. Find inspiration where you can. There's no fix place for fixed people.
The language is very simple and not at all complicated. If you think you'll find too many technical terms and that would stop you from understanding the stories, that's not the case. The words are raw and comes directly from successful minds and hearts, and touch you right there.
And this might be a little out of topic, but one thing I really really appreciate about the book is it's preface section. Telling the readers the inspiration for writing or starting writing the book, sharing with them the author's view of his own work and about the experience of writing it is something that is rare and precious. It brings the reader closer to the author and his idea.

However, there might be instances you might be bored and you'll lack flow. So did I- I, too, picked up and finished the book in bits and pieces, reading one story today and another after a few days. But don't worry, you'll gain something at the end, that's for sure.

All in all, I give the book a 3 on 5.

For that extra dose of Courage and push to chase your dream

First of all a huge thanks to the author and the team for sharing me the copy of the book and giving me the opportunity to experience the wealth of life like lessons that this book offers.

And So can You truly justifies its title as the book is a collection of some of the most inspirational life journeys of renowned doctors from across the country. Each of these stories leave the stark and strong message of how we can too achieve our dreams just like these inspirational figures did in their life.

The book excels in being able to resonate the life and struggles of these doctors in its simplicity and naturalist environment. I loved how the author didn’t try to portray them as larger than life but in simple and subtle way showed how the doctors mentioned in the book had to fight everyday odds to chase their dreams. It was amazing to read how many of these renowned doctors came from humble beginnings and shattering the contrary beliefs that doctors are reaped in the soil of wealth.

The stories are able to create an impact by simple and smooth flowing narration and with the added efficiency of language. The language is neither too tough to crack nor too simple to lose out on the essence and importance of what it wants to convey

I believe the book isn’t just for medical aspirants or doctors in the field but these stories can create an impact for anyone irrespective of their field to look on to their obstacles as a mere milestone towards chasing their dreams

One should pick this book to see the undercurrents of the profession and professionals that might be alluring and envious to all but demands a lot of personal sacrifices from one. The book is a quick and easy read with 17 stories of some of the renowned doctors of india. The best part is that the book has managed to collect individuals from various domains in the medical field and various corners of the country.

The language and the narration is simple and makes the reading an easy and good reading experience and I would suggest everybody to give it a try if you are looking for that extra dose of courage and push towards chasing your dream

"""And So Can You!"" is a collection of 17 inspirational success stories of doctors who struggled with challenges, braved obstacles, and made it through because they believed they had a dream to fulfil and a mission to accomplish. The stories behind the lives of these successful doctors. The journeys they embarked on. The guiding factors that drove them along the long and arduous journey. What motivated them to work hard and how they made it despite facing numerous challenges. These are the stories of dedication and perseverance. A journey of self - belief and faith, of hard work and commitment. The book unravels the secrets - why these doctors are where they are today. How they succeeded in accomplishing their life goals. "

Review-

More than the videos which people keep sharing in which they speak about their experiences, I was more fascinated towards motivational quotes and books as they have the deep narration and one can easily feel things through words.

I rarely come across non fiction books which actually deliver a great message. This book is from one of the rare instance where I actually loved the complete concept being a business student. The first thing I loved about this book is the concept of combining different successful people's stories who once struggled hard to reach where they are now. I would support the title completely as it goes with the way the book is narrated. There's no doubt that this book is an amazing one with wonderful and hard moments explained in a simple way. After going through all the stories, I would say that hard work surely pays you one day and just that patience is required to reach your goal. Author being a doctor herself has done a truly inspirational and wonderful work by comibicom all the best inspirational true stories and narrating them in this book. Not all think of writing such stories and not all choose to read such books but I would suggest the other readers to opt for this book and understand what value and loyalty actually means.

Rating:⭐⭐⭐/🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This non fiction and inspirational book by Dr. Roopleen Kaur has 17 motivational stories of established and famous doctors who talk about their hurdles as they've come this long way - from being nothing to being everything in their field.
The 17 virtues that the author talks about are:
Tenacity
Ever onward
Self belief
Bouncing back
Fighting spirit
Perseverance
Passion
Never give up
Fire in the belly
Positive attitude
Resilience (My favourite amongst these)
Firm resolve
Determination
Fortitude
Courage
Survival Instinct
Never say die
I prefer abstaining from non fiction yet this book is a nice read. Although written in a monotonous and boring manner it tells us tales about famous and celebrated medical practitioners who have surpassed all hurdles that life threw at them starting from family members' death, parent's wishes being different from them to biasness meted out to them for being a woman.

Out of the 17 stories the one which I liked the most was about Dr. Anita Panda (story 11) about resilience. Her mother passed away when she was 6, she was the youngest of the family and due to lack of schools she had to quit her schooling for 6 years from third grade to ninth. Understanding nothing of mathematics she was asked to opt for home sciences instead but due to shear hard work and resilience she faired well in mathematics despite not knowing the six year knowledge of the subject. Later the story tells us the hurdles that she had to face at AIIMS and how gender bias forced her to withdraw from the president's post and how her trophy didn't have her name etched but her male contemporaries had. At the ripe age of 67 she's ever ready to face challenges and continues to set an example for all of us.

This motivational book is a nice read for uplifting ones morale but could have been written in a less monotonous and tedious way. All the best to the author.
