The Uncovered Policeman: Made for TV

Rate this book
An email from an old friend piques the interest of Rags the Uncovered Policeman (retired). Hi Rags, I have had a visit from an old neighbour of mine and Gill’s, from back in the day. A guy called Ian Francis. He works in the TV industry, something to do with making light entertainment programmes. He is looking for a venue to make a drama programme. He visited us but after we had talked it through we decided that we couldn’t offer consistent enough weather for making a drama over several weeks. Consequently, I suggested your place in early spring might be better. He said he would get in touch. It all seems really genuine, unlike some of the documentary programs we get asked to participate in. Give him a listen. Rags' place? The popular holiday destination, L'Abeille Nue. A naturist resort in the French countryside between the historic cities of Carcassonne and Narbonne. The Uncovered Made for TV is the ninth story in the Rags to Riches series .

I was born in London in 1956 and lived most of my life in the south of England.

I ran a naturist resort in Portugal for three fun-filled summers. Mrs Bun decided this was what we wanted to do. We spent two years searching before we found L’Olivette, our little paradise in the South of France.

Teachers always tell you to write about things you know about. So, that is what I did!

During the long evenings of the quiet season, a series of novellas and short stories started to take shape, one letter at a time

The first book in the Rags to Riches series, in which our central characters first meet and romance starts, “The Uncovered Policeman” was published on Valentine’s Day 2016.

Since then, I have got a little carried away!

When Sean from Eden Gardens contacts Rags and Bea to tell them that a TV director has a proposal for a TV series that could benefit from some of its location scenes being based at their gîte in the south of France, they are not entirely convinced.
Nevertheless they allow director Ian to visit, put his proposal, and with serious discussion, and both Rags' and Bea's inciteful questions, a plan is agreed upon

Thus begins a story involving schedules, starring actors, support actors, the background happenings of a hundred other things. Author Ted Bun reprises the principal characters of the Uncovered Policeman saga with wit and warmth, and with the usual twistings and unexpected events, we carried, once again in an entertaining tale involving people we care about.

You must read for yourselves how it all turns out, but, once again, I find myself captivated by another Rags and Bea story told with charm and humour. Recommend.

Ted Bun is such an optimistic fun author with a gentle sense of humour and his books are the ideal anecdote for a damp chilly spring day which we sometimes get everywhere, even in the South of France . The latest, number nine in the ‘Rags to Riches’ series, is no exception.

A celebrated TV director contacts Rags and Bea, the proprietors of a naturist holiday facility in the South of France, about using their premises as the setting for a new TV drama. It’s the start of a rumbustious saga of creativity, negotiation, and of course, nudity. It gives the author the opportunity to reprise his old adventuress, revisit his old characters and introduce us to new ones. He depicts a veritable Garden of Eden, filled with interesting, considerate, open and talented people appreciative of the abilities and wishes of others. Don’t look here for dark flawed characters with hidden secrets and deep inner conflicts to resolve. The author is selling the philosophy of naturism, which is less about baring the body and more about opening up the soul.

The book is written in a clear, relaxed chatty style with a quiet humourous slant that is easy and enjoyable to read. A party is the setting for the last chapter, but in fact the whole novel is a party from beginning to end. It’s not a long read, but it’s a rewarding read. Especially when it’s raining outside. It brightened up my whole day!

A very entertaining read
Starting with the premise that a TV producer has found a book, liked the story and wants to make it into a programme.
He needs a venue, naked swimmers and much more .... Can Rags and Bea help him deliver a success!

Variety gives 5 stars

So much fun to be in the pool of extras for this short film making program. This was a very good stand alone story but is also a great continuation of the Rags and Bea saga.
