Oh dear I am in the minority here but this book wasn't for me.
It's a story set in Glasgow featuring Kerry Casey who is a young lawyer pulled in to head up her gangster family when her brother and mother are murdered.
Overall the story was okay but I found the delivery tedious and obvious in places (lots of eye rolling). It was overly sentimental and too superficial for my taste.
I have read several books in the Rosie Gilmour series by this author and enjoyed them so I'm really surprised and disappointed that I couldn't get on with this new book but I doubt I'll carry on with the series.
Do gangsters always have to be so cliche? This book has all the elements that I would usually enjoy but it just didn't work for me.

I admit when I relaised that Anna Smith had let go of Rosie Gilmour I was devastated. I knew that a new book was looming but who on earth would match up to Rosie Gilmour? Well I can assure you that the Kerry Casey certainly matches up and add to that the fact that the author has just created an absolutely outstanding book and I think we may well have a contender for the book of the year so far! Kerry Casey seems to be the start of a new sweries and what a hell of a book to start it off with.
Kerry Casey is nothing like her Gangster family, she is a hot shot lawyer who has spent many years living in Spain. However when her brother Mickey is taken out as Kerry attends the funeral she has no idea she is in the middle of what he left behind. When her mother gets killed in the crossfire, Kerry has no choice but to take the reigns for the business. What she didn't realise is just how good at it she would be.
The other character I loved in this book was Sharon and it made a real change for the women to be the head honcos and to see them building an empire. The additional characters we see are all part of this amazing book and they all made a lasting impression on me. I got a real feel for this etended family and literally am chomping at the bit wondering how long until the next book. I have always been a huge fan of Anna Smith especially her last series, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this series may well be even better!
I read this in two sittings in just a day and a half and cannot WAIT to see the next book in the series. For those juts as impatient as me I would guess sometime early in 2019 but we can always hope for something sooner. Thanks for an absolute cracker of a read Anna, a truly wonderful book and for me the best this year so far!

This is the first book I’ve read of Anna Smiths and I really liked it.
This is a gritty crime thriller set in Glasgow and whilst I can see why people are comparing it to Martina Cole’s books, it’s not quite the same.
In this book we meet Kerry Casey who has returned for her brothers funeral after he was murdered by a rival gang.
At the funeral, Kerry’s Mum is shot and this makes her desperate for revenge.
The men who supported Kerry’s father and brother are on hand to help her and soon a plan is put into place.
There are quite a lot of characters and at times it got a bit confusing, but overall the story came together well.

Fantastic and gripping
Kerry Casey arrives back to Glasgow for her brother mickeys funeral to witness her mother Maggie shot dead. Kerry was sent over to spain at the age of 14years old soon after her fathers death. Kerry wants whoever killed her mother to pay and sets out for revenge. Her brother that she wasn't close to his death didnt come as shock to Kerry but her mother who she adored meant war and revenge. working in corporate law kerry has gave all that up to move back to Glasgow to get into the business matters that are now all hers and she vows to make changes. I was gripped to the core reading this new book by anna Smith its actually the first of hers that I have read, and boy I loved it. fast pace story that will draw you in page after page

This was the first book of Anna Smith’s I have read, and it certainly won’t be the last. I originally thought it was going to be a standalone but have since discovered it is book one of a series featuring Kerry Casey. I look forward to book 2

I struggled to get into this book as I felt there were too many characters introduced in a short space of time. However once I got going I really enjoyed it although I didn't feel I knew Kerry. I like the way the ending leads the reader on to wanting to read the next book.

I purchased this in one of the sales on Audible as the synposis sounded interesting.
I finished the book in the hope that it would get better but overall I found the book just average.
I felt that the way Kerry was portrayed wasn't realistic. Whilst I understand grief impacts everyone differently, for Kerry to suddenly take over running a gangster enterprise when she has had no part of it just didn't ring true. Pistol whipping McCann for example just felt too contrived - again I accept grief affects everyone differently I just couldn't buy that suddenly she was violent. Equally when Sharon comes on the scene and she assures Sharon they can get a phone Tony etc it just didn't feel natural.
When Sharon gets kidnapped by Micky, I felt the part about Knuckles calling her just didn't fit. Knuckles knew that Micky had kidnapped her so why on earth would he call Sharon's phone directly? And believe that Micky had left her wihh her phone? Too unrealistic for me.
I also felt that an Inspector in the police would not be so quick to jump into bed with the head of a crime family, even if they had History. He appeared to have ambition so why run the risk of throwing his career away?
Sadly not the series for me and although the end was paving the way for the next book, I'm not sure I'll be rushing to read it.

This book was amazing! I enjoy Anna Smith's novels and this one didn't disappoint.
From the first page to the last she doesn't let go, and really keeps you turning the pages. The writing is excellent, the characters are extremely well drawn and with lots of depth.
A thoroughly enjoyable read. Can definitely recommend. If you are a Martina Cole or Kimberley Chambers fan then you will enjoy this book.

Overall Rating 8/10 – Bang Gang!
Plot
Kerry Casey takes over her family’s gangster business but has she got the bottle and balls to make it successful. Can she stave off the other gangs who see her as weak and seek to take her and her business down?
Writing Style
Easy, flowing, short sentences. Modern, up-to-date. No excess adjectives or verbage. Pretty much ideal.
Point of View/Voice
Written in the 3rd Person / Past Tense (standard convention)
Critique
This is a thriller written from the perspective of “the bad guy” which I did not appreciate when I picked it up and began reading. Until now I had always read through the eyes of the “Goody Two-Shoes” or the “Hero”. This was a strange change and it did take a fair bit of adjustment. I found the first few chapters difficult because of this but this compounded with what I thought was repetitive background stories of the characters. I don’t know if I imagined that but it soon stopped and the plot(s) went into full flow and overdrive.
In fact, the plot(s) were very good and quite entwined with (clearly) a great deal of thought having been put into them. Unfortunately, there were some aspects that were entirely unbelievable (like a virtually impossible co-incidence). These “unbelievable” elements, although small in number, shattered the world that had been created (for me anyway) and I found myself dwelling on them instead of the story itself.
There was another element which I had not before encountered – the authoress displayed a strong undercurrent of misandry in her writing. Personally I would have no issue with this at all except that modern society has rammed down my throat that such conventions (in the reverse) are entirely unacceptable. It is probable that the authoress doesn’t even know she is doing it. (I use “authoress” instead of “author” deliberately to highlight it being unacceptable from a male to female). I enjoy the female perspective and I would not like to see its identity vanquished by modern day “do-gooders” who have nothing better to do than become offended on behalf of others (who aren’t offended) and then attempt to compel everyone else to capitulate.
Apart from that (rant), it was pretty damn good. I have already bought the next book in the series and I am looking forward to it.

Blood Feud is a good book based around the lives and business interests of a Glaswegian criminal/gangster family and that of some of their friends and associates. With some gritty and interesting characters along with a well thought out and fast paced storyline it should keep you entertained and turning the pages. Having read and absolutely loved all of Anna Smith's previous novels, which featured her excellent Rosie Gilmour character plus many others that were equally as good, I have to say that I didn't enjoy this one quite as much for some reason, hence only 4 stars. To be honest, I am admittedly somewhat biased towards Rosie et al, plus I haven't yet had a chance to really forge a bond with the new characters so that could be influencing my thoughts and feelings regarding this book. I must point out, however, that I did genuinely like Blood Feud and I will definitely be reading the next installment when it comes out.

Now this really was a gritty gangland thriller!
We start off with a funeral and are introduced to the Caseys. Kerry Casey was back in th UK to say goodbye to a family member. What an action packed event this was!
Kerry is a lawyer, who flew over briefly from Spain. Little did she realise, she’ll be staying around to run the family business.She is now the boss, and is ready to lead as she sees fit. She wanted to right the business, for the father she lost as a child.
We’re introduced to several characters along the way, who are all into drug deals.
This was heartwarming, gritty, exciting, violent. We even see Kerry become reacquainted, with her first love from school.
I’ve loved all of Anna Smith’s books. However, this was the best yet. Couldn’t put it down. This HAS to be continued. There’s a lot more I want to know about. Surely DI Vincent Burns can’t stay away???

Farewell Rosie Gilmour hello Kerry Casey!
I felt as it were an end of Era when I finished all 9 RG books but this was just what i needed! Kerry Casey is thrust to head of family table by default after her brothers murder and her mother’s untimely passing and she has now grown into her role as if she’s never had a separate privileged life aaay from the schemes of Glasgow.
I won’t give it away but this book reels you in and keep you hooked!
I flew through it and reading the follow up.
I do think there’s scope for RG to have a cameo in this as the one who wants to expose the rotten to the core gangsters and Kerry could call upon the Rosie Gilmour distraction technique and give her the inside track to expose those at the top .. I’m just saying lol
Anna is a great author and i’m straight onto the follow up and can’t wait to find out what happens to Frankie (50 faced) Martin

The story is about Kerry Casey who lives a normal every day life away from her gangster family. Then her brother is killed and she becomes the head of the Casey empire. She wants revenge for his death and to bring the Casey business away from the drug selling that get brother started to be more on line with the type of business her father wanted. I really liked her character she was a strong willed woman with determination and a good head on her shoulders. This novel was out of my comfort zone and was chosen for me by my boyfriend. But I really enjoyed it and will be continuing with the series.

Wow a new book with new characters wasn’t sure what to expect, but I absolutely loved it and couldn’t put it down. We meet Kerry Casey a lawyer at the funeral of her brother Mickey. Mickey ran the family business taking it into drugs and prostitution not what their father had wanted for his family. This caused trouble with other gangsters and resulted in Kerry’s Mother being shot and killed. Kerry now has a choice walk away and go back to her life, or stay and get revenge for her family. A fab read that I highly recommend and I hope Anna has more for Kerry in the future.

This book was recomended to me before it was released and i am so glad i bought it.The characters came together in the wake of Mickey's death. Kerry returned home to bury her brother although she didn't like him he was still family.Her Mother was heartbroken at the loss of her son,things have a habit of exploding when your a member of the Casey family.If you want to know what happens then read the book you won't be disapointed.Well worth 5*

New direction
I've read Anna's Rosie Gilmore series and have looked forward to each new release. When I realised her new novel was introducing us to brand new characters I was a little dissapointed. That was until I was ten pages in. Anna has a gift of producing strong, loveable female leads who take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and keep you guessing to the very end. Watch out Martina Cole there's a new queen of gangland thrillers heading your way!!!

Brilliant read .Blood Feud .
This novel is one of the best books I have read in a long time .This novel is like a Martina Cole book I just couldn't wait to go to bed and have a good read . I have ordered the second book to this and can't wait till it comes out . I would truly recommend this book to all Martina Cole fans it's a definite good read from start to finish . This is definitely a 5 star read or more .

While I have already read the third book in the series I decided to go back to the start and read the first book in the series. I have to say the first book is not as good as the third book in my opinion BUT it sets it up for the second book in the trilogy and I have to say I am very excited to indulge in the story and the main character having to deal with the Columbians! I am just praying that the casey mob are up against some serious heat and the author does not down play any violence!

Good, easy to read story about a gangster family which initially were small times gangsters. After father died, the son took them along the oath of drugs etc. Once he was killed and the mother killed indiscriminately at the wake, the daughter takes over. Full of revenge the story depicts how she tries to eliminate the murderer of her family.

Good read
First time reading this author's work and I am definitely going to read the next one when it's released. It was full of action, twists and turns. The characters of Kerry, Sharon and even young Cal were brilliant can't wait to read where Anna takes them in her next book. I would highly recommend this book to all.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't sure I would like reading about a new character, especially after reading the Rosie Gilmour series, but I have taken to Kerry Casey and can't wait to read the next book. I loved the mention of places in Spain, as I live in Spain. So it was good to see Torrevieja mentioned I loved it 😀

I stumbled across this book while browsing and as I like Martina Cole books I thought I’d give it a go.
I loved this book and although I can see the comparisons it is not the same , Kerry has a conscience for a start !! I couldn’t put it down and download the next in the series straightaway .
I would urge anyone who likes gangland crime to give it a go and you won’t be disappointed.

My Review
I have had this on the tbrm for ages, I do this, buy up books from authors I enjoy and leave them for ages! Meet Kerry Casey, raised away from the criminal goings on of her family and made a name for herself on the other side of the law, a lawyer. When her brother is killed Kerry comes home and things go from bad to worse. Kerry's hand is forced and she enters the world her parents tried so hard to keep her from. A strong female lead character with all manners of skulduggery, danger, rivalry, drugs and everything dodgy you can imagine. Revenge, family bonds and actually we have another strong female character although I did get a wee bit twitchy with some of her decisions.
This is book one in I believe a trilogy, we get to go with someone going from straight and narrow to the old blood will out and taking into the family business. Kerry has no idea how much of the Casey blood/line runs through her and when she is pushed to a point boy does she fight back.
Set in Glasgow, gangsters, revenge and seeing females come into their own, one from the shadows of their corrupt other half and one protected from the rough/family legacy - both left with no choice.
Unlikely relationships, unlikely friendships and shade all over the place, a good start to the series and I look forward to book two, 4/5.

I have had this on the tbrm for ages, I do this, buy up books from authors I enjoy and leave them for ages! Meet Kerry Casey, raised away from the criminal goings on of her family and made a name for herself on the other side of the law, a lawyer. When her brother is killed Kerry comes home and things go from bad to worse. Kerry's hand is forced and she enters the world her parents tried so hard to keep her from. I really enjoy reading Anna Smith books, I found the first series easy reading.
If you like Martina Cole books you will probably also enjoy this series as it is on similar lines. It was a real page turner with a developing storyline. I liked it that much I started the second in the series immediately as I wanted to follow the story, to which I can say it is not disappointing.

Anna hits the spot
Great new book from Anna Smith.. New characters and a new direction... couldn't put the book down. Perhaps Rosie will be investigating the Casey empire in a future book... you never know with Anna

Brilliant
Wow first book I've read from Anna and I'm hooked. Totally enthralling from the first page, felt like I was part of the Casey empire, Can Kerry cut taking over the family, can she be as strong as the men who control the gangster world....

Wow, I absolutely LOVED this book! easily one of the best books I have read. Kerry Casey is an absolute legend and I can't wait to see what happens next. If you haven't read this book yet then get it read! 10/10
