"Spring Fling and the Sheriff!"
I will take any story from Bliss Texas. This story absolutely cracked me up! The silly relationship between Spring and Waylon had me grabbing the tissue. My husband wanted to know what I was reading, so I decided to read out loud and did the voices too. Too bad there wasn't an audio to this story.
I like to write parts of the book I find that stuck out best for me---------------------------
In this book, I found where it talks about the Tender Heart series as we know Lucy Arrington as the great-granddaughter of the founder of Bliss Texas. She had written the classic series of novels called Tender Heart in the 1960's based on the mail-order brides her great-grandfather had brought to TX to marry the cowboys who worked his huge ranch. Lucy died before she could write the final book in the series. Or at least, that's what everyone thought until the first chapter of the lost book was discovered.
Ms. Maybelline Marble had been Lucy's best friend. On her death-bed, Lucy asked Ms. Marble to find her daughter and give her the final Tender Heart book. When she couldn't track down the daughter, who turned out to be Granny Bon, she'd started hiding the chapters for Lucy's nephews and nieces to find.
This story also talks about Raff Arrington showing up in Sheriff Waylon Kendell's office. He had been through some tough times in his life and deserved happiness. It looks like he is back on his ranch, however hard and dirty as it was, he seems to love it and he is good at it. Raff has been putting in some hard work to get it to thrive again. He is adding additions to his cabin starting with the kitchen and main living space. And adding a nursery - Savannah's pregnant! They also took in a boy named Luke who had run away from an abusive step-father who would give anything to play baseball.
Here is where it gets funny with Waylon and Spring. She finds out he needs help in the office while Gail is in Lubbock taking care of her mother. Spring just puts herself into the position even though Waylon doesn't want her there. He told her so. I had to laugh how she just puts herself in Gails chair and starts to take phone calls. It looks like Waylon has lost the battle. The entire town appreciates the help she is doing for the good sheriff.
At the end of page 92, you will see Waylon is stuck with Spring in her 'ham-can camper' and can't seem to turn the handle on the door of her little trailer to get out. This gave Spring a few more seconds to come up with another plan. Time to shed some tears.
So, Spring hands Waylon a long list of her failures - things she can't remember or couldn't do, even choose the right pan as a weapon to ward off a stalker. Yup, Waylon fell for it. He would give her one week and if she screws up once - one time - 'you're gone.' No excuses, no tears, and no begging! Little did Waylon know her fugitive daddy was hiding in her tuna-can size bathroom.
"The Little White Chapel." All women seem to love the little white chapel because it's the place where dreams come true. It's the place where all the mail-order brides were married - the real ones and the fictional ones that Lucy Arrington wrote about in her books. This was a place filled with happy-ever-afters.
"A legend that said if you made a wish on the chapel spire for true love, you'd find it."
