I give an expression of care every day to each child, to help him realize that he is unique. I end the program by saying, 'You've made this day a special day, by just your being you. And I feel that if we in public television can only make it clear that feelings are mentionable and manageable, we will have done a great service for mental health.” – Fred Rogers An anomalous YouTube video crudely entitled “Mr. Rogers is a [sic] Evil Man” stands at over 1.8 million views, with 1,000 likes and a whopping 30,000 dislikes. Similarly, saying an ill word about the universally adored Mister Rogers on the forums of the imageboard, 4Chan, will get the commenter torn to shreds by even its notoriously toxic anonymous users, and almost definitely ousted from the online community for good. In an age where even the motives of Gandhi and Mother Teresa are questioned by the cynical and they are at times vilified as “frauds,” one would be hard-pressed to find a rational argument against the untouchable character of Mister Rogers. When one does happen upon such an abnormality, the public is quick to defend the gentle soul. “It takes a special kind of scum to hate Mister Rogers,” reads the top comment on the aforementioned video, posted by user Sergei Ivanovich Mosin. The video has been picked apart by multiple journalists from the likes of Huffington Post and the Pittsburgh Magazine, amongst many others. So who exactly was Fred Rogers, and how did the host of one of history’s most beloved shows win the hearts of children around the world? Fred The Life and Legacy of the Legend behind Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood profiles one of America’s most iconic television personalities. Fred Rogers is a legend at my house. My kids watched him and I knew that it was something safe and comforting to watch. This book is very informative about his early years in his life, his personal life, professional, and his many achievements. I enjoyed it while I was learning just as he would have wanted.
Fred Rogers was my friend. He was our friend. All of us who grew up watching him can say that. And now to be able to read a bit about his life and Legacy just makes my heart ache to see him again. The world needs more people like Fred Rogers
I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. As I aged, I “outgrew” him but his principles were life reaching. My children also enjoyed him. After I watched “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks, it spurred my interest in reading more about this gentle giant. It’s good to know he lived what he preached and brought about many life changing experiences to people because of his love for all men.
An enjoyable read for those of us who fondly recall time with Mr Rogers' Neighborhood

Everyone felt welcome and appreciated when they turned in to Me Rogers' Neighborhood. Discovering Fred Rogers studied Child Psychology comes as no surprise to me, the shoes always felt so finely tuned in that level to me as a kid, it was actually his Music background that intrigued me... he always made the music seem so natural and second nature.
Interesting to read some details about this iconic man. He was sadly wrong on his stance on homosexuality.
Interesting connection with Fred Rogers and Sony's introduction of the videocassette recorder in 1975. Rogers' testimony before the Supreme Court (in Universal Studios vs. Sony) is credited with saving this new recording technology.
The book has several pages of reference and resource notes at end for further research on Fred Rogers.
This book will surely tug at your heartstrings. Mister Rogers Neighborhood was a staple in my childhood. He brought so much joy to my day. To read about his life and his legacy was such an honor. He was truly the person everyone perceived him to be. My children loved watching Mister Rogers neighborhood when they were younger. Even now at 15 and 12 I still catch them watching when there’s nothing else on. He was truly one of a kind.
The stories about Mr Rogers are short. More information or insight would have made the telling of the story as amazing as the man. A nice read, but not any new information.
A short but well written and researched introduction to the life of Fred Rogers. It’s a good starting place to learn on overview of the man. From here I suggest reading “The Simple Faith if Mister Rogers” by Any Hollingsworth in order to get a deeper understanding of the core of who Fred was.
I have read many biographies of Fred Rogers. This booklet (it’s less than 30 pages) is a poor summary of some of those books. The editors refer to his wife as “Sara” though she always went by Joanne. There are other errors as well. Very disappointed in the poor quality.
Fred Rogers is a genuinely wonderful man; this book captures his magic and shares insight into what made him the iconic man we know today. A snapshot of his legacy and information about some of his prominent experiences. Before I read this book I didn’t know much about him other than what I saw from watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, also, at the end of the text, there are additional resources for those that want to continue learning about him.
