How do you survive when death is never more than 3 feet away?
Swimming to a deserted island after his plane exploded, Caden thought he had escaped the worst. Little did he know, he and the other survivors had washed up on la Isla de la Quemada Grande- commonly known as Snake Island. Here, there is an average of one venomous snake every square meter. In the midst of avoiding deadly serpents, crash survivors with dark secrets, and finding food and water, Caden just wants to find his dad and brother and go home. But to make matters worse, Caden soon discovers that the person who brought down the plane may still be on the island with them!
La isla más peligrosa is a suspense-filled novel focused on delivering comprehensible Spanish while not leaving out a compelling plot. This novel features less than 200 unique words and many cognates- perfect for the novice reader.

I got this book for my Spanish students and found that they were interested by the story and could follow the Spanish. Some mistakes in the actual Spanish, but nothing my students would pick up on. I felt it was a little violent, but fast moving. All in all a great edition to my Spanish library. 3.5 stars
Can’t wait to introduce this one for FVR for both my Heritage learners and my Spanish 1 classes! An interesting and exciting story, yet still very appropriate for middle school and up.
The action starts on page one and doesn’t stop. John doesn’t waste time developing characters and setting, he jumps right into the action and lets readers piece together the details as they go. This makes for a more satisfying reward for the reader. Additionally, the large cast of characters, each with their own secrets and motivations, gives readers several storylines to follow. All the while, John weaves in cultural content and touches of humanity without either getting in the way of the story. I’ll be recommending this to readers who love action and adventure.
Fast paced and fun! John Sifert quickly throws his readers into an action-packed plot that intensifies with each chapter. Students who like adventure books and movies will devour this story and Spanish teachers who enjoy doing reader’s theater will have a blast making this story come to life in their classrooms. As an independent Spanish learner, I appreciate books that I can get lost in and just read... as if I am reading in my native language. I read La Isla Más Peligrosa in one go and can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Great book! Easy for Spanish 3 a bit more challenging, but still pretty doable for Spanish 2. Not a lot of preterite / imperfect in this and the story is a fun suspenseful read.
This was the most enjoyable "beginner Spanish reader" book that I've read so far. Simple. Interesting. And fun! I didn't need to look up very many words. This was great, really great.
