Imagine a world where dinosaurs have survived and evolved as... SUPERSAURS. This is the world that Bea Kingsley lives in, a world where humans live side by side with supersaurs, sometimes in peace but often in conflict. Bea is the daughter of explorer parents who went missing when she was just a baby. So when her grandmother suddenly takes her on a trip to the remote Indonesian islands of Aru, Bea starts asking some big questions. But the more questions Bea asks, the more trouble she and her grandmother find themselves in. Was the journey to the islands a big mistake?
A lot of fun and the illustrations by Chris West and Jay Jay Burridge are fantastic. A world where dinosaurs never died out... But, as this adventure shows, the humans are the ones to worry about.
Wow what a surprise of a book! I was not expecting too much from this, but I have to say this was a great story. The art was really fun, the plot was interesting, and the characters were all so great, and of course the dinosaurs! Speaking of which I have to give this book big props for accurately depicting raptors and T-Rex as birds and having them have feathers! I will say that I am not sure if this book is middle grade, I would say YA because there is actually a lot of violence and gory scenes that I did not expect but added to my enjoyment! I am excited to continue on with this story and see what adventures await!
Bea has lived with her grandmother, Bunty, ever since her parents disappeared. Now eleven years later Bunty received a very late piece of mail from her daughter and son in law posted from a tiny island in Indonesia. She, Bea, and Theo (Bea's kind of adopted son/bodyguard) have made their way to this obscure island. They arrive under the pretext of wanting to see the famed raptors of paradise in their natural habitat. The raptors are much prized for their stunningly colored feathers. The island is under the thumb of a very nasty man overseeing the raptor trade. And he really doesn't like strangers poking around on his island. Can Bea, Bunty, and Theo find answers without ending up a dino snack?
This is set in a reimagined 1930s where dinos never went extinct. The raptors of paradise and their fancy plumage parallel the birds of paradise that really do live in this region of the world and similarly were/are very prized and exploited for their feathers. The mystery of what happened to Bea's parents is not fully answered in this book. There's an added mystery to the story that shows up several chapters into the story that makes this book remind me of elements of The Jungle Book. Bea and Bunty do very well adventuring and roughing it, which I appreciated. They aren't wimpy society ladies which surprises some because they do have wealth. The bad guy on the island is quite the piece of work, but I like that Theo especially never stooped to his level. I will be interested to see if I can find more in this series. This book is wrapped up well enough that I would be ok stopping here, but the world created and adventure spun was fun and exciting and I wouldn't mind spending more time in it. I'm also very interested in the properties of raptor spit now. Recommended for dinosaur lovers, reimagined history fans, adventure fans, and tantalizing mystery fans.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Dinosaurs and people are injured, some seriously and things like digging out a bullet are described.
Beatrice Kingsley can’t understand why her grandmother (nicknamed Bunty) has brought her halfway around the world to look at the Raptors of Aru. Sure they are said to be beautiful and elusive but it was such a long way to go. Along with them was Theodore, loyal to Bea and Bunty after being ‘adopted’ into the family many years before.
But there is another reason for them to visit the wild Islands of Aru, and Bunty isn’t ready to tell Bea why just yet.
But this island has more secrets than they know, and as they enter the jungle with the help of a plucky nine year old porter and his father, they encounter many dangers. This island may have the most beautiful raptors, but it also hides very dangerous ones too. Not to mention the arrogant, vicious leader of the island, Christian Hayter, who isn’t happy about strangers in ‘his’ jungle.
What they find is beyond their imagination, but worth fighting for. But first they have to survive!
This is the 1st in a series of 6 books – with two more out 2018. If you’re after Dinosaurs, Courage, and Action, this story has bucket loads. Both Bea and Bunty are brave and determined, despite all Bunty’s rules on behaving like a lady. Jam-packed with luscious B&W illustrations, this adventure is going to popular!
This was a fun human/dino cohabitation story, jam-packed with adventure, fun, mystery, peril, and of course... dinosaurs. I absolutely enjoyed this read and my children, too! It's fun for all the family and we're looking forward to reading the next one together. The storyline is simple to follow, yet enough to keep you hooked. The characters are all so vibrant and unique. I did not see a certain twist coming to light, but it was perfectly fitting for this story. The settings are described perfectly, which creates wonderful imagery as you read, there's also the added bonus of fantastic illustrations.
I LOVE DINOSAURS SO MUCH!!! This was so cool to feel like it was actually real and accurate of how dinosaurs and humans would come exist if they didn’t go extinct. The story is beautiful, the artwork is beautiful, and I can’t wait to get the rest of the series. But this can be almost standalone (as in no cliffhanger and you could stop here, but there is definitely more to the story). I love this so much. The beginning was slow, but looking back I kind of was just tired (as I read before I go to sleep).
Here’s a few of my favorite quotes from this book:
• “Judging by the sheer weight of the cases, Bunty was expecting anything up to and including the apocalypse.” • “Maths was never his strongest subject as he often ran out of fingers to count on but things were not adding up.” • “Holding the female human seemed so natural, but the boy had never done anything like this before.” • “Humans were wild vicious animals who preyed upon his clan and other creatures. They trapped, snared, and killed. Yet here was an alpha female who smelled of wild flowers embracing him: a touch without violence.”
This book is genius. In an age where kids are constantly on their phones this combines their love of technology with reading. The app allows you to make the illustrations (even the front cover) come to life in 3D. You can read it and use the app as you read, just view the pictures or play as different characters from the series and find hidden objects in the pictures. Both colour and black and white illustrations, this is aimed at the more advanced reader bored of the usual books and for parents who want to encourage their kids to read more. Cannot wait for number two to come out!

"Supersaurier-Kampf der Raptoren" ist ein tolles Kinderbuch, das spannenden Lesespaß für 10-13jährige bietet.
Was wäre, wenn Dinosaurier nie ausgestorben wären?
Supersaurs Raptors of Paradise ]It is an amazing book it is my favorite book it has the perfect mix of action, adventure and funny pages.I love the app for it, the raptors of paradise look so amazing through the app I love this book. 11/10 also I do mean it is better than a 10/10 rating
