Things were going along smoothly for the Grumpy Chicken Irish Pub and Ginger, the daughter of the owner. Peaceful even, until Digger comes in bringing a treasure he found on Ginger's mother's headstone in the cemetery. From the moment he shows Ginger the beautiful engraved heart locket with pictures, there is no doubt that the chicken is upset.
After the local psychic has a humdinger of a spell, it is obvious that the locket is an important piece of history and is related to the chicken somehow. Thus the friends are gathered and begin making plans to figure out who is the mysterious Erin Byrne pictured inside the locket with her name engraved on it as well.While Digger and Piper go to Atlanta to show it to an esteemed historian, Ginger, Ida, and Bones set out on foot to talk to people in town and check the archives in the county building. Along the way they discover a Civil War map of the town area, a strange painting related to the town, and materials in the archives. The next day when Piper and Digger return (along with the historian) there is much information sharing and ideas. The "gang" has information and plans! The real fun begins.
Lots of Civil War references and stories are found in this latest Pub mystery. The Grumpy Chicken is the center of attention, but I found the Civil War stories, including tales about the Underground Railroad, fascinating. Fact and fiction interwoven and accompanied by a great cast of characters made this a fun read with enough excitement to hold your interest.I like the comradery of the gang and the way they are always ready to stop and assist however they can. A book for all ages with a mystery that has been bugging readers in the past three books, makes this a winner in my eyes. Best news of all, not everything was reveled guaranteeing more good mysteries to come!

Nice read
I enjoyed this story and the history lesson given by they author. It's interesting to see how history fits into some stories so well and the author has done so with humor but not even sure if it's accurate or not but fun to find out if it is true. The underground railroad has always been a mystery to how and where it began,who the players were and how many people survived to tell the tales or be able to past it down in families generation after generations. The ghost aspect was interesting but a little insulting, I guess at least Marie La Veau was not the women mentioned as the one who cursed her. I am a descendant and get upset when she is misinterpreted in these stories of VooDo, she was a healer not a mean women or vindictive. So do really appreciate this tale and look forward to another of Gingers heroin adventures finding the descendants of that family without death or bad events would be great. Although don't trust that historian!

This is the fourth book in the Grumpy Chicken and the most different in that instead of Ginger being the narrator, the point of view changed between several of the Scooby Gang in order to propel the story forward.
This wasn't a mystery in the classic sense where there's a dead body and the Scooby Gang would discover whodunit, instead, the story was more about discovering more about the pub.
The story itself seemed a bit shorter than usual given that I finished it so fast (that is, I was surprised when it was over) and I enjoyed it. The story brought up more questions than answers and I look forward to more information about the pub and it's Grumpy Chicken.
I give it 3.5 stars -- looking forward to the next book.

The Chicken's Tale
Really started off well but I just felt that it fizzled out at the end. A mystery locket leads the investigating team to research the Civil War. Will the Chicken's beginnings be finally revealed. A mystery painting, a mystery box and the tantrums of the chicken lead the team to the answer. The characters were as good as ever but switching the narrator per chapter was just a bit off putting as there were too many of them. The plot also built up well but then just seemed to run out of steam. Nice to find out the Chicken's origins but truthfully not my favourite in the series.

There are discoveries of Civil War history, a family tree, hidden treasure, and much collaboration.

A tale told by all
This volume of the grumpy chicken is told by all the different members of the gang. Some readers may find this confusing but we, the readers, can gain insight into what is going on with the story. Some fascinating things are revealed and the possibilities for new story lines are opened. Can't wait for the next tale of the Grumpy Chicken .

Cursed With a Twist, MY FAVORITE!!! yet. Constance Barker's Grumpy Chicken Irish Pub series. Quirky, Appealing, Entertaining. Book 4 expands on the individual back stories for characters. For generations the Grumpy Chicken Irish Pub...in the O'Mallory family. Home away from home pop. of Potter's Mill, GA...and Haunted by a GRUMPY CHICKEN. Twenty-something, Ginger O'Mallory, oversees daily pub operations. 'Den mother' to employees and clientele. Her father, Tom, pub owner and sometime instigator. Large group of characters. With large, eccentric personalities. Some with wonderful, over the top nicknames. Sleuthing has become a big part of this diverse groups' social gatherings. Into criminal activity. Solving murders. Learning any/all about their spiritual Grumpy Chicken. Some research. Abit of investigation-guessing, gossip, nosing around. The page by page story development, GREAT!!! Clever unpredictable twists, turns, detail and thought. I received this book as an ARC. I am voluntarily posting this review. Looking forward to more visits to Potter's Mill, GA!!!!

A big twist
This book not only deals with family histories, but finally reveals the secret of the Grumpy Chicken. It's written this time from the main characters' points of view. Through this method of storytelling, we learn about the characters ' lives and how they relate to Ginger and her father. This is a really great story - I hope it's not the end of this series.

Confusing
I've loved the other books in this series so far, and this one had a good story...but all of the jumping around from different characters POV's made it confusing and it lost that sense of connection to the story.

I enjoy these books it is a quick read and the characters are fun. I would recommend to any one who wants a fun diversion.

Another author who writes a good story.
Another author I enjoy reading. She has books several genres so you're sure to find something of interest to read. Very well worth the read.

Great chicken
I love the Grumpy Chicken Pub series. Spirits intrigue me so the series suits me well. Also l like mystery books, so the combo is awesome.

Another quick enjoyable read in this series. This one was a little less quirky and a bit more serious, but I enjoyed it just as much.

I have become addicted to the Grumpy Chicken mystery series. Each is a complete mystery with a continuing theme and total mystery to be solved. It's definitely a good read.
