Part-Timers

Rate this book
Joel Bluewater has been found guilty of suicide, held captive by morally esoteric angels that guard the afterlife. To pay off the debt of his misspent life, Joel must join the Part-Timers, souls forced to help others move on in exchange for the money they need in a post-mortal limbo. But danger follows the dead, and there are many things worse to lose than one's flesh and blood. Joel will have to prove his innocence if he is to escape this supernatural purgatory, but the clock is ticking. Madness awaits souls who lose their way, and what was once lost may come back with a vengeance.

Compelling and organized for a first novel. Copy-editing could be better, but a good start. Looking forward to the next novel.

Writing is thoughtful but pacing feels a little choppy. It sometimes feels as if the author tires of one line of thought and is anxious to move on to another. Still, pretty impressive for a first novel. Cheers!

The next CS Lewis??? Maybe!

This was an excellent depiction of life after death! In so many ways this writer reminds me of CS Lewis in The Great Divorce. The style of writing and the great character depictions are wonderful! It kept me reading till the very end.

Interesting concept with flashes of really good writing -- I look forward to see the author distill this excellence in his future work. Editor needs to be better. Not a bad way to pass a sunny summer day.

Good story that kept my attention, although I didn’t quite follow some of the rules of the afterlife. The characters were well-rounded and the plot interesting, but the story needed a better proofreader.

Really enjoyed reading Carter's debut novel and the imagination and texture replete throughout! Would definitely recommend as a summer read for fans of urban fantasy.
