A graphic novel about one of the most extraordinary wars of all time: the Second Punic War. Many people may have heard of how Hannibal marched with elephants over the Alps, but far fewer know the full story of this astonishing struggle.
Nikolas Lloyd is best known on the interweb as the man behind the YouTube channel Lindybeige. His hundreds of thousands of subscribers watch him for his views on historical films, his comments on the ancient and medieval worlds, and his loquacious ability to boil up a quick simple idea into one of rambling complexity. He has a degree in archaeology, many beige shirts, and was co-writer of the steampunk stage play comedy The Adventures of Stoke Mandeville, Astronaut and Gentleman.
It took Hannibal 6 years to travel from southern Spain, across the Mediterranean coast and through the Alps into Italy (all with his army and several war elephants, famously), then win all of his most famous victories over the legions and generals of the Roman Republic, become allied with the city of Capua and become beseiged by the Romans within that city, generally marking the point in his war that the Romans began holding the advantage against him. With its Kickstarter launched in May 2016, and originally planned for release in Dec 2017, this graphic novel has taken more time to release than the successful portions of Hannibal's war lasted. In total he spent 15 years fighting in Italy before retreating - I wonder if this project can surpass that mark as well.
Steininger is quite skilled as an artist but after 4 years it´s time to admit that Nikolas "Lindybeige" Lloyd took the 150k and did other things with it.
A year ago it was supposedly 94% finished but the only thing I´ve heard is the utter silence of updates and seeing Lloyd traveling the world on Youtube.
Unfortunately it appears that the creators of this book took the 150k in kickstarter money and ran. They release a "project update" about once a year or so in which the come up with a bunch of vague excuses and no evidence of actual work being done. I hope to be proven wrong, but this book is years past the promised release date and for now I advise you to not give them any more money.
This seems to be a scam. It was supposed to be released at the end of 2017 that's almost five years ago but it does not go anywhere, despite getting 6 times (!) the amount needed on kickstarter.
The novel has never been published. I have ordered more than 3 years ago. Neither writers nor the selling platform (Kickstarter) has notified us about the project progress. When requested a refund I have been ignored. IT IS A SCAM! Please do not buy it!
