Frederick is drawn to the strong woman who stares adversity in the eye and wins, but if he is to court Sarah, Frederick must end a relationship with a girl from Beaumont, Texas. He sets off. When a great storm hits from the Gulf of Mexico, Frederick rushes back on an ill-fated train ride. Will he make it to the Bolivar Point Lighthouse where Sarah has taken refuge, or will he be claimed by the storm like thousands of others?

Growing up in Houston, Texas in the 1970’s, Annette loved the stories about ghosts haunting the Spaghetti Warehouse and the mysterious “blue light” cemetery. But it was "Devil's Island," the magical woods across from home where her imagination blossomed. She created fantastic scenarios to act out with her brother and the neighborhood kids where worlds were conquered and dragons were slain. Annette is still making up stories, and is celebrating the release of her first historical romance series with Pelican Book Group. Her love for the history and heritage of her home state of Texas shines through in her writing and she's made it the backdrop for her first novel series. Annette is a longtime member of American Christian Fiction Writers and her local chapter, ACFW-Writers on the Storm. She lives north of Houston with her husband, Dan of 35 years. Dan and Annette are the proud parents of three grown kids, a bonus daughter-in-law, two loveable rescue dogs, and a Russian tortoise named Frankie!

Christian Historical Texas 1900
Our lives can be such a muddle, taking us on paths we never dreamed of, connecting us with people in all kinds of various ways. We go through our lives, just living, pleased or irritated with people and situations around us. We also have unique ways that drive us. Then things happen. Sarah recently lost her father, who was a rancher with an esteemed breed of cattle. But they only seemed important to her. The rest of her family had other plans. She sticks to her guns and makes plans with her Uncle to continue ranching, bringing her stock to his ranch, even acting as trail boss herself in moving some stock to sale. She meets Frederick, a lawyer in her Uncle's firm. Her Uncle trust him, but Sarah isn't so sure. Well illustrated Christian lessons and growth, including how good Christians influence others' lives around them. Examples of prayers answered when disaster strikes. Perspectives, and people, change depending on the circumstances they are in. What is important becomes more clear. Excellent read!

I don't remember the last time I laughed out loud or chuckled so much reading a book. Annette O'Hare is a marvelous storyteller and she writes humor so effortlessly with such subtlety.

The later part of the book is quite grim though, the author having taken some of the details from the devastating flood that actually happened in history.

I liked the author's work so much that, half-way through Redeeming Light, I went and bought another one of her books with one click! I am also considering buying Redeeming Light and other of her titles for the church library.

This is my honest opinion based on the review copy I received from the publisher.

4.5 stars (4 here, 5 on Amazon) The story's time setting of the Galveston hurricane that almost completely destroyed the city in 1900 is an interesting one I was somewhat familiar with. The story's characters and their romance brought it to life, while a cattle ranch and cattle drive in that coastal area made it all the more captivating. The first book, Northern Light, is still my favorite, but I plan to read any and all the rest in this series by Ms. O'Hare.

Great read

Annette gracefully employed scripture into the everyday lives of her characters, displaying how people can actually live their faith in their daily lives. Great descriptions of the Bolivar and Galveston locales.

This is a gripping story about the true grit of a young Texas gal trying to save her family’s livelihood. Our heroine even finds love in the midst of overcoming her challenges and the infamous hurricane that devastated Galveston in 1900. You won’t want the story to end!

Clean, Christian fiction. I met the author and bought the books from her. I loved the Texas setting and time period.
