The Legacy: Doom concludes The Legacy series. Order of books: Dax, Fate, Destiny, Doom
Note: Reading Dax before Doom is a must to understand the story fully.
After she encountered strange lights in the sky, GG Atcheson became obsessed with extra-terrestrial life. She often daydreams about possible life in the universe. When she's not stargazing, she reads, or plays MMORPG on the computer. GG is a fighter and a cancer survivor.
Just like the rest of The Legacy series, Doom is a great read, but made even better this time because we get to see a lot more from Mellie's POV. Being the last in series, I can't really say much, though I admit, it had been a while since I'd read Destiny, so I did find myself going back and rereading some things. But I should mention that was more my need to remember and comprehend. GG Atcheson does a great job of giving the readers just enough background to refresh without a full rehash. The ending was wonderful and had satisfying closure, but I do hope there are more books set in this universe in the future. Highly recommend it!
Plenty of action, along with many new twists and turns, combine to make this a fantastic ending to the Legacy Series. This installment is written in Mellie’s POV, which helps the reader form a greater attachment to her. Up to this point the stories were written in Alex’s POV and though I loved his thought process, I was happy to get an up close and personal insight into Mellie’s character. We find out even more about the ‘Wish’ which forms Alex’s family legacy, one he was destined to fulfill. But Destiny isn’t always everything we believe it to be. The world-building is highly creative along with many new and unusual species, some seem benevolent while others are quite evil. The entire series is highly recommended!
The final installment of Atcheson’s Legacy series is something of a departure from the previous books. More subdued and introspective, the story is told from Mellie’s point of view as she and fellow vampires are on their way to Xhartan and a world created for them.
But Alex (aka Zhendar) is not free and must give himself to Destiny, queen of the vampires, at regular intervals; while Mellie, struggling to understand the strange conundrum the Xhartan’s have brought on themselves, also battles her own jealousy, anger, and self doubt.
However, Destiny, who delights in torturing Alex, is not all she seems; and Atcheson skillfully creates a surreal and action-packed conclusion at once surprising and satisfying.
As usual, the author’s flawless and original marriage of science fiction and vampires revitalizes both genres much the way Anne rice’s, Interview with the Vampire, did in 1976.
A must read for fans of the series, but also a book that can stand on its own.
