Once you crack this one important scale, the rest will become even easier once you learn the basic concept of joining scales and notes all over the guitar’s fretboard. This book will show you how.

A very effective approach to tackle the fretboard fluency. A fruitful read with nice illustrations. It literally took me from a level to another in regards to how to think and interpret the pentatonic scale. The one thing I hoped this book to offer is few excercises integrating chords into scales. I wish that there will be other books tackling other tricky concepts of the guitar.
This is definitely one of the best books I have read to reinforce what I already knew about soloing within the minor pentatonic scale on guitar. It’s for those guitarist who already have a basic understanding of the fretboard and I do mean basic, but are still not making “music” when they solo over a backing track or with a band. It revolves around the five basic pentatonic shapes, actually only stressing two (the two you will use the most), as well as mentioning the good old CAGED System, but only a mention. What really “kicked-in” for me was the way the author broke down the pentatonic shapes into small “fragments” that revolve around the root(s) of the scale and can be played anywhere there is a root note in the key you are currently playing in. Truth be told, it’s fairly basic stuff for the intermediate guitarist, but the straight forward, common sense way that the author presents the information made sense and provided new ideas for this old, thick-headed player! Also, its a short, quick read and that is how I would recommend you approach this book, provided you have already been hammering those pentatonic “boxes”. Skip the tabs and exercises (for now) and just read the chapters and try to take in what the author is saying. Then go back and apply the “fragment” technique with a suitable backing-track! Good Luck!
As someone who teaches guitar, I'm always on the lookout for new resources. This provides a solid overview of the minor pentatonic scale and its patterns without getting caught up in too much else. There are good tips here. Something I will come back to, both with my students and for myself if I need a quick refresher.
Lee Nichols is a natural teacher and this book is must read for beginners or the intermediate guitarist looking to connect with blues and related rock, plus more. It will accelerate your ability to improvise and take a lot of mystery out of the fretboard
