Success beyond my wildest dreams? Too bad I wasn’t able to fully enjoy it.

No time to sit back and watch the fame roll in when you’re being hunted by superpowereds and a private military force.

Still, everything was going according to plan.

Grace, Veronique, and I were headed south. Our target? The secret government facilities scattered across the country. The second installment of Mutants in the Making was nearing completion, ready to be published any day now.

Things were tense, but all was well.

I wish they would have stayed that way ...

Warning: Cherry Blossom Girls 2 contains a harem; gamelit LitRPG humor/stats; violence; telepathic, shifter, teleportation and vampiric superpowers used for auto theft, mind games, and the exploitation of the general public. This series was inspired by The Tick, Stranger Things, Deadpool, Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, and the anime Elfen Lied.

Okay. This happened.

Remember that summer-blockbuster-type first part? It was a "kick-back, relax, and enjoy" experience.

The sequel? Exactly like it! So, naturally, I liked it a lot :-)

If I were still doing ratings like I used to, this would have been a straight 5*. But rating based solely on a fun factor proved not to be a good thing. 4* stands for "Really liked it / It's great" and it fits best here.

I won't really go into details here (such a huge surprise, right? xD) mainly because you need to have read CBG1 to fully appreciate the sequel. And, if you've read it, then you should know you'll be getting the same old experience.

Supernatural, comic book hero, sci-fi action for adults. I cannot find a more fitting description. X-Men gone wild would be a runner-up choice ;-)

There are still some things I cannot get used to, like Ebaymazon or Googleface, but in our silly world, it isn't much of a surprise. People sue their neighbors for driving a car of a color they don't like, so better be safe with naming huge corporations in your book.

There are also foreshadowing-gone-wrong situations, but it may just be me as I don't generally like foreshadowing. But when you see "Chapter 17 - She's with us" it does take away some of the fun.

Then again, we have situations like "Chapter 8 - Put her in the trunk and drive to Vegas" which are just hilarious. Especially when you consider how chapter 7 ended! And no, I'm not going to tell you xD

As we're used to today, every book mentions one social sickness or another. This one is no exception. The story is set in ~2030 and at one point Cooper acknowledges the current gender situation lunacy in the form of "Victor and Victoria's Secret." Quite liked that one.

Cooper paid an homage to Metal Gear Solid, too, and I'm very proud to have recognized it before our main character confirmed it is indeed the case. I might have laughed out loud at that one :-)

I had flashbacks of Deadpool when he also started breaking the fourth wall. "I explained to her what had happened. Don't you just love it when books do that so you don't have to re-read everything?" It was beautiful!

He did whaaat?

Like that wasn't enough, in chapter 27, Gideon's heads start having an argument. Has to be the craziest inner monologue I've ever read! Well, listened to.

Yes, I listened to someone's internal monologue. Go science! xD

It was made possible, yet again, by the amazing Soundbooth Theater team. Eventually, I'll read everything they ever recorded. Annie is there again <3 and Laurie just makes me love every female character :-)

Great series so far. 4.5*

More action and a little more harem then book 1 but not enough harem to become annoying and slow down the plot. I'm really enjoying the series so far and looking forward to the third book.

This is the second book in Gideon, Veronique, and Grace's continuing mission, and Gideon's writing.

The trio cross swords with Dorian Gray - if you're thinking of Oscar Wilde's being, forget it - this one is a punky female with a paintbrush, imagination, and plenty of spit. Boy, is she something else!

Cooper writes an excellent tale - there's no doubt about that in my mind - and his readers are always entertained from page one. I enjoyed this book much more than I did the previous one. I felt that it flowed a bit better, and just hit the right spot for me. I love the continuing banter between Gideon and Luke, and Luke is sooooo jealous. The humour in Cooper's work is consistently excellent. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

I received an eARC of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All opinions are honest and my own.

A masterpiece by a great author

This took the series to a whole new lvl. I cant say enough of just how stellar this book is.

Gideon definitely becomes more of a badass in this story and really tries to make up for the mistakes that were made before. I love the fact that through out the story that he doesn't give up on writing and continues to pursue his books even in the middle incredible danger.

The plot was excellent and makes you not want to out the book down and keep going no matter what you have to do. The story never slows down and continues to make me surprised and pumped by the turns in action.

I re as d this book from beginning to end because I couldn't put it down.

This is a must read for anyone that wants a great story and fast paced adventure.

Overall a very good story, even better than the first (also good story). The depth and growth of the characters is spot on and the plot hooks introduced raise new questions as well as giving answers. I am looking forward to its continuation.

The only negative I would have is based around (I am being vague to avoid spoilers) the protagonists constant re-referencing and communication with a fellow professional which does more to break up the flow of the story than anything else.

That said, it is a minor gripe in an otherwise enjoyable read.

Bravo Mr.Cooper and I will continue to read.

I like that the author is able to poke fun at haremlit genre by having his MC hate those kinds of books, and i would say similar when MC points out how one-dimensional a villain Mother is, but i wonder if he only does that cause the author is too lazy or downright incapable of writing a better one. Who knows. And for gods sake, the endless parade of mercenary cannon fodder and helocopters is getting tiring. Those mercs should be wearing red shirts, not black tactical gear.

With all that said, i can't wait to see what the line up of stolen cars the protagonists steal next book is like.

Are you ready for more irreverent writing from this author?? Well I was!! To get the total gist of this story you should read the first "cherry blossom" but its not necessary if you just want to laugh and chuckle while reading about the adventures of a writer who gets mixed up with super powered women running from a secret goverment agency..Sounds like something you've read you say?? Not this book, buster!! Read it now,and thank me later!!!

A Super Book

Gideon and his Cherry Blosson Girls are in the run. An excuse to adjust those girls settings as they attempt to find out more about their fellow experimentees. Meanwhile the truth is out there and as the book sales go up so does the danger that they find themselves in as more Supers come after then and not always to join them.
Some exciting twists as we learn more and a ever present tension of sex, action and adventure. Roll on book 3

Gideon's wild ride

And his superpower is... driving! It's another campy, steamy, bizarre, meta road trip with Gideon and his ladies to Austin and beyond. I had a blast. Between all the places I know in Austin to the self referential musing of someone in the indie author scene Harmon Cooper had me laughing and turning the pages furiously. It was fun and well edited. I love some of the ridiculous book cover images sprinkled in. And bonus points for explosions.

Surreal Delight

These books are a writer’s surrealist LitRPG action harem rom-com drama. There’s nothing out there quite like them, and they’re awesome. The series irreverently pokes fun at itself, writing, writers, the genre, pop culture, sex, commercialism, politics, book covers, book selling, book ratings, and yes: reviews.

In doing so it also manages to provide you with an interesting and enjoyable story, fresh characters, and a sense of wonder. Definitely recommended.

Middle of the road

I enjoyed the previous book enough to check out the sequel and I enjoyed this one about as much. I was able to put the book down and return easily enough, but for me, it wasn't the kind of book that I just had to read from cover to cover.

Well written and mostly well edited; I would like to see how the story turns out someday.

I'll check out the next if I run out of other books to read.

Even better than the first.

This one kicks off in high gear. The action keeps going and doesn't disappoint. The harem elements are there but not by any means forced or frequent. The story is intiguing and some mysteries are solved, but others still remain. True to most of Cooper's books there is humor and it is spot on. A great read all around

Gideon is back on another crazy, fun adventure with his superpowered friends Grace and Veronica, and the story is as wild a ride as the first book. If you've read and enjoyed the first book, you know what to expect and you won't be dissapointed. If you're just starting here, you'll have a little catching up to do, but you should still have fun.

Contains graphic sex and violence.

Transference Of Power

Writer Gideon and the girls enjoy life together when they're not being kidnapped or fighting the conspiracy. Their bonds become closer. I like the action, snarky humor, and romance as lust segues into love. The story envelops me and pulls me along non stop. Will Gideon gain powers? I eagerly await the next book.

This guy is unafraid...

...to kill off people, put them in sticky situations, and make it really uncomfortable to put yourself in the head of the MC as he calls it. The relationships are not easy or predictable but develop a bit like reality does.

If the app didn’t require that I write a certain amount of words, my review would’ve began and ended with: I’m buying the next one.

Get more than

Usually, when you pick a book to read a given idea or storyline is destined to be read but, rarely do you get more than a readable hardly memorable and at times predictable. You are so going to enjoy this.

A good sequel

Another fine tale of the Cherry Blossom Girls. The author is consistently amusing and provides light sexual situations and humor in equally enjoyable portions. Fun and hard to put down.

Solid second book

I enjoyed the progression of the plot in this book. I had several laughs at how the group made weird but funny mistakes. The group continues to grow in power.

Love the writer perspectives with Gideon. Nice character builds and story arc. Gideon has his hands full however who would not want Veronique, Grace and Dorian by your side protecting you (in so many ways). Nice work Harmon. On to the next book in the series.
