They abducted her when she was only 16. However, with the help of a covert agency called the NIA, Dillon Shaw was able to escape their underground caves. After joining the NIA, she became ‘The Huntress’, the Agency’s most skilled tracker of the Rhynn, a highly intelligent alien race with beast-like qualities. When the aliens were near defeat, Dillon crossed a line that led to her being suspended from active duty.
8 years later, the aliens have returned—only this time in human form. Now the NIA is asking its best tracker to come back to the force to track down the leader. However, as she learns more and more about what really happened to her in those caves Dillon begins to question who the real enemy is and the true nature of the agency she works for.
This book is like no other I have ever read. My stars are more in the 4.75 range but since partial stars aren’t an option, it gets all 5. This book is fun, it takes you on an adventure through so many feelings. Not only with the plot, the characters, but the setting too. It was such a good time, I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it. I couldn’t wait to talk about it! When it ended, I was texting in all caps and physically shaking my phone in frustration. To say that this story has captured my attention from the first beam of white light and held on tight is an understatement. Batz is a delightful storyteller.
Trying to write this review without giving away the plot or spoilers is pretty difficult. The characters are sarcastic and badass. People you would want in your corner. Well unless they are the bad guys, then most likely you don’t want them in your corner, but even the bad guys were written in the best dick mode possible. They were so irritatingly hateable! Let’s talk about Dillon Shaw. She was definitely badass. She was fun to read about, and her personality! I would love to be bff’s with this chick because she is hilarious! The one thing that sometimes I forgot was that she was a woman. It wasn’t until a feminine pronoun describing her would pop up and remind me that I would be like “oh right!” She seemed to have more of a man’s outlook on everything. I can easily see how this could be, it was the one thing that kept tickling my mind as I was reading so that’s where the .25 came off in the star system. Otherwise, everything else was so spot on. Thank you Mr. Batz for writing a book that caused all of the above feelings.
Oh! Also the bar scene. It felt so much like an old timey saloon and I LOVED IT!!!!!!
Sci-fi is not my genre, but this book was engrossing. It is quite descriptive. Give it a shot if you’re looking for something a little different and aren’t easily offended.
This was a great read. I normally don't pick up science-fiction books but this came recommended to me by a friend. I was kind of skeptical when I read the summary of the book but by the time that I opened the first few pages, I was hooked.
Dillon Shaw was your typical teenager, until she was captured by a bright white light. After waking up in a cave she's shocked to realize that she's not alone. The cave where she's tied up is full of other kids her age. It turns out that her captures are not from this world.
I could have honestly spent an entire book with Dillon and her cave-mates, the trauma that they went through felt real and I wanted to know about all of the hardships that they faced.
Very intriguing main character. I'm generally not into sci-fi but I really enjoyed reading this book. Can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd installments of this story.
