My Last Last Name Is Grace

Rate this book
Beaty Miller was raised in a conservative Anabaptist, Mennonite home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, one of the most religiously legalistic areas abounding with Old Order Plain Mennonites, who drove horse and buggies. This is the story of her journey from resisting the demand to join her parents’ church, which required wearing a head covering that resulted in ridicule in school, to a woman of faith today who is whole, healed, and full of God’s grace. Her rebellion continued through two marriages, searching for the right godly man, and the struggles connected to “shunning” by family and church members and being considered an outcast, which still exists. Written as a novel, her revealing and honest memoir is about life-changing choices, land mines marked “me,” and the consequences of living with those results. Travel with her through the journey of guilt, discouragement, and forgiveness, and finally the acceptance of the gift of grace that surrounds her today.
God’s grace is seasoned throughout this blunt and bare-all memoir. A tremendous (no such thing as unexpected) hurricane blew in and left such devastation that only God could rectify. He salvaged Beaty out of the rubble and ashes that remained. A stronger woman emerged, one full of clarity, forgiveness, and wisdom. Some parts of the story will have you laughing, and some will have you crying. But all parts are worthy and reveal God’s amazing grace. Her revelations must be passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Share her story and find courage for the storms in your life and recognize that as comforting as her mother’s quilts, Beaty is now assured that God’s grace will welcome her through her last and final front door of home. So it can be for you to discover God’s grace for your life.
