Brunner finds the mythical and fantastic in every day life. The poems in this collection range from longing to dreaming, crucially hitting nostalgia and wonder in between. I think my favorite poem is "Let in the Light", and if you've ever felt so scared of being hurt that you closed yourself off until you found your best friend, I think it will be your favorite, too.

A poetry book that finds a great balance between fantasy and reality. Makes you think about your own childhood and memories that influence who you are today.

Now here is a poet who is not afraid of a bit of formatting.

Ruminations is much more than a poetry chapbook. The formatting of each piece is important here, often vital to the way the words work. Each page is a work of art, with lines flowing back and forth like a drunken sea.

Often with this type of writing the words can get lost behind the use of white space/line formats but Ian has clearly made sure that the words keep their end of the bargain.

The centre-point of all this is the title piece, 'Ruminations', an epic of catharsis and precision.

Really excellent little book, highly recommended
