This was a great volume, and I really love Hawks. I am just not a fan of how this is heading into an Endeavor redemption arc. That man abused his family for years. I don't think I'll be able to forgive him.

I'm probably in the unpopular majority here but I really love how the series is going so far. I love how they wrapped up the school festival, I love Hawks and I love with what the author is doing with Endeavor. If you guys really think he's being given some sort of redemption arc, then you should stop reading right now. I highly doubt that Endeavor's previous actions will be forgiven just like that. Y'all just need to wait and see what the author is planning and not hate so quickly.

Other than that, five stars. 😊

Most of the volume was just buildup, but I’ll admit I was happy to see Endeavor, the new #1 hero, spread his fiery wings.

Hawks is hands down my new favourite! I love his cheeky, non-chalant demeanour. I'm glad that Kohei didn't actually gave him a birdface. That end fight literally gave me goosebumps. Hawk and Endeavour is one hell of a team. 🤯🙌

ASPECTOS POSITIVOS
- Loco PUEDE HORIKOSHI HACER VILLANOS QUE ODIE???

Midoriya faces off against Gentle and La Brava as the school festival begins, but thankfully he manages to fulfill his promise to Eri as he enjoys the festival with her. We learn of how La Brava became Gentle’s number one how he failed at being a hero. Meanwhile, it’s wondered who will now be the new number one hero as All Might is out. A- (91%/Excellent)

The first half was a bit boring to me but the second half pulled through and I am super interested to read more about the Todoroki family and get into the Endeavor arc.

****Actual Rating 4.5 Stars****

An extra half star for Eri’s smile because the culmination of the heartache and struggle and determination that built up to that moment in her freedom and smile was everything and made me tear up because it’s so powerful. My favorite part of the whole volume hands down!

Deku continues to inspire me and those he comes in contact with with his sheer grit and determination to protect and save people, and every time I read him doing something like this I think I can’t love this guy even more then I already do and somehow I always do! He’s just amazing!!!

The end with Endeavor and Hawks is an interesting turn of the series outside of what’s happening with the kids and the way this volume ended SHOCKED me and made me dive immediately for the next one because what the heck, I HAVE to know what’s gonna happen! And Todoroki’s face…!!! Oh, my heart aches for this young man so much! He hates yet cares for his rotten dad and it shows and just ouch…I love him, he’s amazing too and I hope this fight won’t end up breaking him anymore then he already is.

There's another popularity contest in this one to introduce the latest story arc focused on Endeavor. I wish it was done differently, especially with the info dump for this new threat but at least it still allowed the intrigue to settle down and the suspense to increase.

The ending is where it's all at, however. I couldn't believe what I read and you bet I jumped right into the next volume.

I spent the past two months getting back into this fandom and caching up with the anime and manga again. This series isn't without its flaws but man I love the characters, their arcs, and the story so much 😭

Ugh! Another bridge entry. By this I mean that this felt like it was just biding its time between the previous story arc and the new one. This continued with the U.A. School Festival of which I have zero interest, Gentle Criminal/La Brava which I like and then ended well which redeemed itself.

The artwork as always is excellent and I really liked how certain scenes were drawn either showing a new side to a character's face by the way it was drawn or immense detail in action scene which must have taken ages to do. So hats off for that.

The U.A. Festival is good for the school, fine but it was really boring for me. Eri being there did absolutely nothing so why go through the whole storyline of making sure she was okay with...*checks notes*...loud noises and sparkling lights? Just didn't see the point.

Gentle/La Brava got pulled off to a side tangent but we don't know where yet so I am hoping that this gets picked up in Vol 21 or 22. I feel like they could easily make an appearance in the Vigilantes spin-off series of manga (which I will be reading as soon as I finish these) which would be kind of cool since Gentle has an excellent quirk.

Finally, the ending is what saved this volume for me. We have the hero billboard chart which has changed lots since All Might is no longer able to work as a hero and then Endeavour and Hawks fighting a new, more stronger Nomu. The way this volume ends is also excellent. Endeavour is the new #1 hero but he's left almost dead after fighting the Nomu so the next volume should open up with more action, which I can't wait for.

I'm hoping we get to see more of the League of Villains now Nomu is back in the picture but we'll see!

My Hero Academia, Vol. 20 continues where the previous tankobon left off and contains the next eleven chapters (178–188) of the on-going manga series.

The tankobon concludes the fight with Izuku Midoriya vs. Gentle Criminal and his side-kick La Brava. Midoriya was successful in capturing the villains without raising any alarm or the cultural festival will be cancelled and everyone's day will be ruined. With his efforts, the U.A. Cultural Festival was a success, but Midoriya was discipline without calling for backup. Despite this, Eri had fun, which was Midoriya's prime goal.

On his first day as the official number one hero, Endeavor teams up with the current number two, the winged hero Hawks, to investigate the possible return of the monstrous Nomus. Hawks is a carefree and talkative young Pro Hero with the quirk of Fierce Wings, which grants him a pair of red feathered wings that slows him to fly.

Kohei Horikoshi has written and illustrated this tankobon. Narrative wise, this seems like a rather simplistic plot, but introduces a promising new story arc. Gentle Criminal didn’t seem like a strong enough villain for him to have multiple tankōbon storyline and Izuku Midoriya handled him and his partner rather well. The new top-ten list seems interesting and the team up between Endeavor and Hawk fighting a Nomus seems rather interesting as All-For-One might make a reintroduction.

All in all, My Hero Academia, Vol. 20 is a good continuation of the series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read what happens next.

Numero bello, bello.

This is a weird volume in how it is sort of broken up into three sections. We wrap up the gentle criminal arc which I'll admit wasn't the most exciting but it served its purpose for Deku's development. Then we go into the new hero rankings which I guess you could say is more of an introduction to this upcoming Endeavor arc, and again doesn't quite have me jumping out of my seat. Now here's where we're getting to the meat of the story. I'm noticing many people believe Endeavor is about to have his redemption arc but I don't see Horikoshi making it that easy, at least I hope not. Its hard to tell at this point since we only get a small glimpse of the Todoroki household and then the fight with Nomu.

Yet another exciting volume of My hero academia. Horikoshi can do no wrong in what is probably the best superhero comic around. He just gets superheroes. In this volume we find Midoriya in a dilenma as he battles the unrelenting power of Gentle. This battle was more than just a fight between absolute good or evil. Gentle & Midoriya are putting their ideals and pride on the line. Midoriya comes out on top but there is a bit of bitterness to the win. Gentle is reminded by our hero the importance of not only not giving up but finding a true purpose to be a hero to save others. This story reminded me of a Spider-man story in that all Deku wanted to do was make it to his high school class performance to bring cheer to a sad little girl but of course in Parker luck fashion a villain shows up to make things complicated. The back end of this volume sets up a fierce battle for Endeavor who has reluctantly become the number one hero after All might is severely injured in his battle against All for One. Horikoshi's artwork has gotten better as the story continues and the characters are all written so well. I can not recommend this series enough. I can't wait for the next volume.

This volume was pretty bizarre. The number of times said "what is even going on??" while laughing was ridiculous. First off, Gentle Criminal sucks. He is so boring and feels like a waste of time. I understand that he was supposed to be their as a foil to the school festival, but couldn't the foil have been literally anyone else. He was just so boring and stupid and I hated him. Also, his sidekick La Brava has the worst power in the MHA universe. Her power is I mean, how cheesy is that?? Anyway, enough about them, the school festival in itself was super weird too. It felt like an AU where the super hero school is now a music school. That all being said, I loved all the scenes with Mirio and Eri, I think they helped to keep this really bizarre volume grounded. The ending was also a lot more intense than I was expecting, based on how goofy the first half the volume was. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

I have yet to encounter a character within My Hero Academia that wasn’t well-written, however, I just wasn’t interested in Gentle’s arc. The eventual showdown between Deku and Gentle was A LOT OF FUN and gave me crazy Spider-Man vibes from when Peter Parker used to juggle school and super heroics at the same time, but the story as a whole wasn’t as captivating as the previous two or three arcs. It’s cool though, because if every storyline was utterly bombastic, it would make it tough to truly appreciate the bigger events and plot points in the series. While this may not have been my favorite, it was still great storytelling when considering the world of My Hero Academia as a whole.

Iconic.
