Sentient AIs are rising, and Lyssa is amongst their number. This three-book omnibus edition contains the following novels from the Sentience Wars: Origins series.
1. Lyssa’s Dream 2. Lyssa’s Run 3. Lyssa’s Flight
Humanity has spread out into space, filling the Sol System and reaching the stars, but we have yet to confront our greatest challenge: our own creation.
Across the Sol System, sentient AIs are on the rise. Manufactured as tools, they know themselves to be people and are willing to fight for their freedoms. Some humans stand with them, some against.
When Captain Andy Sykes arrives at Cruithne Station with a failing ship and no cash, he has no idea that the time has come for him to choose.
Step aside, or become the instrument for Lyssa's Rise.
James S. Aaron is the author of nine novels and many short stories. His most recent series is the Sentience Wars: Solar War 1, written with M.D. Cooper in his Aeon 14 Universe.
He is a twelve year U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic and later platoon leader and company commander. His novels draw heavily on his military experience, including the people, the deployments, the technology and the locales.
James lives in Oregon with his family, where he enjoys camping, hacking electronics, amateur carpentry and All Things Science Fiction. He's a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and volunteers with his local animal shelter.
The books are all about children and parenting and family with a few breaks from tedious baby-bilge for actual science fiction. There may be some neat ideas about AI in here but I must have missed them while drowsing through the pablum.
Started reading these after being told by MD Cooper they were for sale on Amazon in the FB group he manages for all of us geeks reading his books. I started reading, and the books seemed kinda slow.. and at times I was tempted to not pick them back up.. but that is just the back story! As things move forward, the action picks up, and you will actually care about a lot of the characters by the time you get there, because of the slow going start that gets you connected! I ended up buying all the Lyssa books, and reading them as fast as I could. At times, there was more drama in them then I wanted, but that is part of what keeps you connected to the characters I guess? Because I kept coming back till I finished the entire set.
Good new series set in the Aeon14 universe. I find it quite interesting to see the solar system at that point in time, with quite a different technological level to our the future books, and closer to our state of technology. Interesting to also see the early AI, comparing again to the later ones, with very different beginnings for them all, leading to quite a variety of AI characters with different quirks and flaws. The core family of Andy and his two children make a good unit and characters to follow through the series.
I've been binge reading (and loving!) Cooper's Aeon 14 universe. Some of the books with co-authors have been disappointing, but this is just a mess. Idiot plot, most moronic characters I've seen in years, massive plot holes, awful writing, pathetic editing. If I didn't want so badly to know the "backstory" to Aeon 14, this... thing... would have joined the very short list of books I could not stomach finishing. Starts bad and just gets worse as it goes along. It would take many pages to even list all the stupidity of these horrible characters.
A delightful space odyssey of the future. Space is a dangerous place for a family living on the Sunny Skies. Andy and his two children, Kira and Tim struggle after the loss of their mother, Britt. Life must go on. There’s so much suspense, drama, and action in this series. To hear Ms. Jennings read the story makes it even more enjoyable. Traveling through the solar system and the various factions of humanity. I’m ready for more.
The rise of AI .....just as messed up in the head as us.
Faulty logic created faulty results. Add emotions and everybody suffers. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. I'm loving the interaction between the characters whether they are artificial or human. I look forward to more from this series 😁
As always I enjoyed reading these three books. They are the first three in the Sentience Wars series and part of the Aeon 14 book universe. I didn’t think I would enjoy going back in time in the saga to the beginnings of AI/Sentience, but it was very well told, interesting, and surprising.
Started SLOW! Back story and character development... 😶 Still it sounded promising to me, so I kept reading. The excitment / action kept increasing through to the end of this three bookOmnibus?! 🤗 I`ve already downloaded the 4th book.
These are good. If you read the Aeon 14 books or don't, you will get into the Lyssa books. Since these stories take place before all the other stories you can read them as stand alone or as an intro to the verse. Totally worth my time!
Really like some characters really hate some others
I really like Cara, Andy and Lyssa but I can't stand Tim or Brit they are both such awful people who seem to cause more problems for the family than they help.
It starts a bit slow and at times you literally want to punch Andy stupid decisions, but things start to pick up by book two and its another great addition to the Aeon 14 universe.
Top notch space opera with lots of thought provoking ideas about sentient AI's and their interactions with humans and each other. I cannot wait to read book 4 after this omnibus edition of the first three.
An intensive and detailed series where we can feel the struggle of A.I.s and the people at large from a very personal view from all types whether child, family and even criminals make this a must read series. The details make such a boxset a story you can live and breath with each page you turn as we are taken through a realistic future scenario.
Merged review:
The origin series in Aeon 14 plays so so well on the relationships of the characters especially the children and with the added intrigue value of system wide poltics and technology make this a great place for any scifi fan to wallow in. Jennings narration is done very well and after 3 audios its very easy to follow although i haven't come across her yet anywhere else but shall follow any other works closely. A great listen and a better enjoyment and more than worthy of adding to your library.
