“Ms. Wolfe, you’re the only woman who’s ever requested the arena.”

Sylvie Wolfe made a bad decision, for a good reason. Now, sentenced to death for her crime, she has only one decision left to make—the method of her execution. Most people pick lethal injection.

Sylvie demands death by combat.

Her choice gets her sent to the prison planet Rhodon, where in zone one, the galaxy’s most dangerous convicted murderers fight to the death on camera in a gladiatorial-style competition that will end with one inmate being declared the champion. And having his—or her—death sentence commuted to life in prison.

Graham Anderson thinks he’s lost his mind when he sees a woman in zone one. He pulls Sylvie into his cell just before lockdown, temporarily shielding her from a throng of monsters intent on laying claim to her. By the time the doors unlock at dawn, he’s made nearly a hundred vicious new enemies and lost his heart to the fiercest, sexiest, most determined woman he’s ever met.

With death looming in the arena and foes aligning against them behind the scenes, Sylvie and Graham must fight for every moment they share. But in the end, there can be only one champion. Which means only one of them can leave the arena alive…

Champion is an 86,000 word novel containing dark and violent scenes that might be disturbing to some readers.

Colour me a sick bitch but....watching THE ONLY female in an all male prison fight to death in a boxing match... is something I was super excited about.

That is why I am hella bummed. The characters were such a disappointment.

🛑SPOILERS🛑

➥ Boring couple.
➥ Boring Graham (H).
➥ How did little old Maci have more balls than this ring fighting heroine WHO DEMANDED to be put in bullpen? I thought she would be super badass after those great first chapters, but all she ended up being was helpless. How the fuck did she expect to win a single fight when Graham was the only reason she was even alive. I have never in my life read about a heroine who has less common sense or survival instincts than Sylvie. Truly. When she didn't want to kill Roth because.....

“Sylvie, he will kill us.”
“Not any time soon, he won’t. He has head trauma and at least one broken rib. And he’s fucking unconscious. I can’t kill someone who can’t fight back.” Someone who isn’t actively trying to kill me.

Roth: Strongest fighter. Her biggest threat. Same dude who almost raped her 5 minutes ago. The guy that will guarantee her death once he awakens...THAT ROTH.
description
fucking idiot.

However, I did actually like what I initially paid for: The boxing matches (was it even boxing though?).

Her first match was gruesome and victorious in a way that made me feel no happiness. I felt bad for her opponent's death. I liked the impact it had on me and the heroine.

Movement catches my eye, and I look up to see myself on-screen all around the arena, stomping on Link’s neck with my full weight. Over and over again. Replayed from every possible angle.

By the way, all characters were a disappointment EXCEPT Kaya (Sylvie's sponsorship liaison). No one can promote murder with such cheer and not be a psychopath. I approve. Plus, if it weren't for her unhinged ways, then my favourite part of the book wouldn't have happened....

Context: Sylvie is 5 seconds away from being choked to death in the arena, when.....

A fierce female!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎🖤❤️💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😠😘🤓😉
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Sylvie Wolfe - she was a teacher on her home planet and was convicted of a crime and sentenced to death on the prison planet Rhodon. She has a choice of lethal injection or death by combat in zone one on Rhodon in the gladiator ring to be televised to the galaxy. She chose death by combat, but she is the first and only female on zone one and she is not really prepared for the utter lawlessness and depravity of the male prisoner population.

The Hero: Graham Anderson - He has been fighting in the arena in Zone one for quite a while and is in the top tier of the opponents and he knows most of the other combatants. He tries to help out some of the other inmates in the bullpen, but spends most of his time working out and making sure he has his favorite cell every night, the one with a decent mattress. He has enough seniority to take the cell he wants. When he sees a woman in the bullpen, he grabs her into his cell and locks the door for the night.

The Story: The combatants fight often and each fight is to the death and only the champion at the end of the season gets his death sentence reduced to life in prison. Which means Sylvie has to win quite a few fights to come out on top. Though once Sylvie and Graham fall for each other, they face a dilemma in that only one person each season will win and get moved to another zone (general population) on the prison planet.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Jillian Macie and Aiden Snow. Jillian is a good narrator who has a good female and a decent male voice. She does sarcasm very well and she’s emotion through her voice. Aiden is one of my favorite narrators and has a deep melodic voice which matches exactly how Sylvie describes Graham’s voice.

The story is good, the romance is pretty quick and I like how protective Graham is of Sylvie despite how well she can fight. She is pretty hardcore for a female, but she is still one woman in a bullpen full of over 100 rapists, murderers and the like. She can usually handle one on one combat but that isn’t what she faces outside the arena.

So this is the third book in the series and this time around it's Graham's turn.
You may remember him from the previous book when he was recaptured while attempting to escape zone 2 with Callum and Maci.
Graham after the previous events was placed in zone 1 as a fighter in the arena.
Sylvie wolfes science teacher and murderer chooses death by combat on the prison planet Rhodon rather than lethal injection.
Thrown into the bullpen the only woman among many men it's kill or be killed.
Graham in a spur of the moment decision leaps to her defence placing himself in the crosshairs and the two form a tight bond that because of there current precarious position is amplified tenfold.
This is a gladiator type storyline: a fight to the death scenario where the seasons reigning champion will be released at the end into the general prison population.
This bloody sport is then televised to the masses as entertainment making the powers that be a shedload in cash.
This to date I believe was the most violent of these books: it was no holds barred barbarous violence and the bullpen really seemed to hold the most vicious of this planets low-lives.
I really was on the edge of my seat throughout this biting my nails with such worry.
I loved that Sylvie was a strong take no messing female and also that Graham had such a protective vibe.
This introduces new characters into the ongoing narrative and I am looking forward to reading Sylvie's brother Sebastion and Kaya the sponsor liaisons story that one should be interesting.
This wasn't my favourite of the three books I have read so far but I still enjoyed it and I do like that each book seems to have a slightly different flavour.
This one gets a thumbs up from me.

Champion is book 3 in the Prison Planet series. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as books 1 & 2. While I loved Graham and Sylvie together and the partnership they built overall it was boring. The entire book was training, killing other inmates, bed, competition. All the death wasn't the probably it was just the repetition of the whole thing. I loved the ending and while I didn't love this one I do plan to read more books in this series.

I started the Prison Planet series a little awhile ago. I was in this Prison Planet phase, there is such a genre. I suppose there’s a genre for everything.

I liked that I took a break because I went into this book with fresh eyes.

I wasn’t really keen on reading a female gladiator, but she’s not all tough. She is after all a woman in an area of men.

This is the zone where people fight each other to win the chance to live in a zone with the general population.

Sylvie has asked to be there, even though she’s the only woman in an area filled with 100 men. Crazy right? The book starts out with a bang and I love the whole damsel in distress storyline, however Sylvie is no wall-flower, she has had some training.

The book is different in the sense in goes into the world of televised fighting and doing what viewers want.

I liked the relationship between Sylvie and Graham. I felt the chemistry and I was interested in the plot. I was curious to see where everything was going to go. I could have foregone some of the details. I didn’t really care about the fighting politics, but I liked the struggles they faced.

Also the book was steamy! Too many romance authors claim to write steamy books and don’t. I like that there was a lot of steam in this one.

I’m back in my prison planet binge and will be going on to the next.

I should also note, my reading habits have changed. I have started to read less independently published authors, since I have felt like the writing quality has gone drastically low, however, I am glad that this book was in my opinion written fairly well. I felt like the characters were developed, there was a well-thought out plot and I was mostly engaged in the story.

**2.5** This one was my least favorite of the series. Criminals are put into an arena and fight to the death for the entertainment of society. It's very Hunger Games with sponsorship and public manipulation. For years it's only been men in the arena, but that's about to change. Sylvie is a murderer and is sentenced to death, it's her right to choose the arena battle rather than an injection.

This has the basic same premise as Clair Kent's Hold (which I loved and is a way better story) where the heroine needs to find a man to help her survive. We met Graham in the previous book, but don't know much about him.

Sylvie has grown up training with an older brother who is a cage fighter, so she's no wilting flower. She's determined to survive and win no matter what. Right from the start, she kills a man with a only a pen. Had her badassery continued, I would have probably enjoyed this story more. She teams up with Graham and they train together and have loud public sex that the other inmates enjoy watching.

The plot started falling off the tracks soon after this with one eye-rolling scene after another. The ending is ridiculous.

Russell Crowe from Gladiator saying 'Are you not entertained?' to a crowd, then throwing down his sword and spitting on the ground.

Another high-action, gritty story that had me hooked. It combines classic prison SFR tropes with major Gladiator and Hunger Games vibes. FMC is a badass, MMC is besotted.

I honestly had a great time, there was just one big downside: Sylvie might just have the THICKEST plot armor I've ever seen. She is an excellent fighter, but the fact that she volunteered to be jailed with hundreds of men? Unfathomable. Nobody could survive all she went through, yet the odds were ever in her favor. That said, once I turned my brain off, I was very entertained.

Favorite one yet! They just keep getting better! Wow what a crazy ride!

I loved the heroine SO much! Which surprised me. The hero was perfect (as usual).

It was pretty much non stop excitement from the start! I'm DYING for Sebastion's book! The novella looks good too of course.

Sylvie is an amazing heroine, she goes into the prison with realistic expectations and works for her freedom. Graham is a sweety, respecting Sylvie and assisting her in her goals. Only downside is that it was a little too much like The Hunger Games (filming the fights, getting help from sponsors).

This story was a pinch of Spartacus with a dash of Hunger Games. It made for an interesting plot. I love action and fight scenes. I’m not much into gory fights—preferring sci-fi fights with powers. But I make exceptions for goriness when it’s a great plot-line.
I like all of the heroines. Sylvie is my favorite. I loved her determination and drive. Although, I will throw out there that it was suicidal for her to ask for death by combat.
In reality, Sylvie wouldn’t have even made it to the arena to fight. As the author showed, she could barely make it into the jail cells before she was about to get raped. And then not 2 minutes later, a 2nd attempt of rape. Sylvie can hold her own—a kick-ass heroine—one of my favorite things about her. But thank goodness for Graham is all that I can say.
The UA airing Sylvie and Graham’s sex life on air for the entire universe to watch made for vulgar entertainment. I must be sick because I enjoyed that aspect of the story more than the fights. The UA gave a new meaning to the word assholes.
I enjoyed the ending of Champion with Sylvie’s brother being introduced. I was shocked that Sebastian gave up his fame to get incarcerated in order to try to help Sylvie. On the other hand, I do understand his guilt over the matter, and I can appreciate him wanting to do whatever he could.
I admit, I was nervous about how the story would play out, since there could only be one champion each season. The author plotted the story perfectly with a well done ending that surprisingly, I didn’t guess coming.
I also liked the foreshadowing for Sebastian and Kaya, letting us know that they would more than likely be our next prison couple.
I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for more to come.

Unlike the first two books, which have interesting twists on enemies to friends romances, and prison planet survival, this is more of a romance set in a gladiator arena typical tale. Nice twist: our heroine is the first woman ever to accept a sentence to the arena in lieu of a death penalty by peaceful injection.
If I hadn't listened to books one and two first , and knew what author Chandler is capable of, I'd probably award 4 stars.
Hot, explicit enjoyment of sex. Voyeurism and humiliation well handled by our heroine with mucho agency.
I plan to read the next books.
PS I'm going to change my rating to 4 stars after writing this review

The last fight scene was hard to read stars.

If Hunter (book 2) was like Running Man, then Champion (book 3) is definitely a cross between The Hunger Games and The Temptation Trials.

Kaya was even like the Effie Trinkett character from HG.

Imagine fighting for your life in a death match while the world watches and salivates for your blood.

Minor quibble: Sebastian, Sylvie's brother, irritated the heck out of me. Think of your parents, dude. So selfish and stupid.

Like the other books in this series, the MC is completely selfless. Graham is the perfect man in physical form and inner character, and Sylvie is likable and tough.

I'll admit, I got a little teary-eyed for the last fight.
If you love survival stories, this is definitely worth the read.

4/26/24: reread and I 100% stand by my original review, this is definitely my favorite in the series and one of my favorites in general. My one and only gripe is that there totally should have been an epilogue. The ending is way too abrupt, and after everything they've been through, I wish we got to see a glimpse into Graham and Sylvie's happy ending.

7/16/23: Hands down my favorite book in the series (so far anyway). That's saying a lot, because I absolutely loved the first two, but this was just so SO good. The plot was somewhat basic (maybe linear is a better way to describe it?) but even so, it was really action-packed and there was never a dull moment. Sylvie and Graham were the best duo and so easy to root for, my only complaint is that the ending was a little too abrupt and I wish we could've seen more of what happens next for them, but otherwise I thought that everything came together in a really satisfying way. This book just delivered on all fronts tbh.

Emmy Chandler is such an amazing writer. I love the way she so eloquently pulls you into the story, makes you feel the grit and terror and love her characters feel. Champion was a definite must read, as are books one and two in the Prison Planet series. Seriously, read them.

Another great Emmy Chandler read, especially for such a new author. This genre can have poor writing, and/or corny reads. These have all been fantastic though. This one takes us to another section of the prison planet. Here death row inmates can choose to fight as televised gladiators in death matches, instead of getting a lethal injection. The winner of the top tier each season gets to be released into another zone and have their sentence changed from a death sentence to a life on prison planet sentence. The h is sent here for killing her sister's murderer. She's the first female gladiator.

The only thing stopping this one from being a sold 5 star for me was the amount of pages dedicated to sex. I get it, they are living it up while they can. I don't need to read about it each time though. I started getting really bored with those scenes and skipping them to get back to the main story.

amazing absolutely amazing. this author has the best pacing, writing and just overall flipping talent I've ever read!!

I normally don't go for super women warrior types mostly bc the characterization is off, but this was brilliant. Sylvie was a believable character in the clusterfudge that is prison planet.

I'm eating up these books and I can't stop. I just have a hope of a HEA where they find a habitable zone not controlled by UA!! Please pretty pleeeaasssee.

This was pure gold. Honestly, like a raw, prison, grown up hunger games or something. The action was fantastic. I find it so hard to find a book that is smutty enough while also having a solid plot and characters but not only did this deliver but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I am absolutely loving this series and love how unique the world is!

I quite like this author's writings for the most part but hate the heroine in this book.

Frankly whenever I see this mary sue hunger game strong I can take on a jail of men who haven't seen pussy in years woman trope character I just hope they get gangraped for being so stupid ...... I really want to see this character type die out as far as female heroines go. They don't prove strength only that a female characters pussy really does pave the way to live even if the hero doesn't see it that way,we all know it is.

If this chick knows so much about anatomy how come she actually cannot fight? Lik at all? ANd she has apparently had fight training so.... I'm not getting it.

Waste of a heroine.

This was possibly my favorite book in this series. I say possibly only because I don't know what Emmy Chandler intends to write next in Seb's story...
The heroine was again badass, this time in a physical sense, and I so enjoyed her survivor's instincts mixed with some serious good luck—that luck also came in form of Graham, her savior, her protector, her soulmate and an amazing fighter.

IT WAS PROBABLY MY BAD FOR READING THIS SERIES NON STOP AND DISCOVERED HOW REPETITIVE THE PLOTS WERE AS IF IT FOLLOWED A TEMPLATE. THE CHARACTERS TOO.

OF COURSE it is a good story except when for what happened...perhaps one day I can revisit this again and appreciate its originality.

Badass and I'm not just talking about Sylvie! Sock em' in the feels

Rating: 😍😍😍😍😍

Ok so as you know I have now read/reviewed the first two book of this Prison Planet Series, and I must say this one is just as unique as the other two. Guaranteed happy ending although, you are trying to figure out how that possibly could happen. Definitely some twists and turns to this story.

First off, Sylvie, straight up, she is a badass. She is smart as a whip and she definitely is underestimated in this book by all the wrong people. She has some stones on her too, to volunteer no sorry demand to fight in Zone one instead of get lethal injection when she is convicted of murder. Ok so murder... not so good. But even though we don't get the nitty-gritty details of the how, we know the why. So not to give it away but I totally hope I'd do what she did if I was in that position but I bruise like a peach but in my head totally her.

ANYWAY! Sylvie arrives in zone one - only woman EVER to be in zone one - and she sets the tone for she isn't going down without a fight. And lady luck is on her side when Graham (featured in Book 2 - he's the one that was left behind) rescues her for the night.... and realizes very quickly that they belong together. Graham also is a convicted murder but like Sylvie we know that he is no psycho - he had his reasons (and you can't fault them).

SO they fight in the arena and they work out in the "bullpen" and they are a team. Then stuff gets real when Havoc (aka her brother, Sebastien) is brought to the Prison Planet for a visit and guest commentate the fights. But Sebastien the ever faith protect brother, with a guilty conscious, gets himself into some hot water.

With the season almost at an end and the finale of this season and the prize of the winner getting their death sentence lowered to life imprisonment on Rhodan (thats the prison planets name, or the devils eye/red planet)... Guess who is pitted against each other. The galaxy loved this power couple, Sylvie and Graham, but the finale will only have one winner. SO will their love surpass death? Who will win? But who ever said life was fair...

Warning: there are, just like in the other books scenes that have scarier moments. I mean she is the only woman in a zone full of murders and rapists and psychos.. All I can say is that its done tastefully and like I said she is underestimated ... a lot.

The story was fast paced but not so quick its like your driving on the highway and wonder if you really just did see a bear waiting to cross the road or if that was the exit you were supposed to get off at. So if you like dystopian themes and you are a sucker for a good badass (not just in our leading alpha male - but in a strong- take no shit female) then guys seriously awesome read.

Apparently Kaya and Sebastien's story is next up with a potential release date in June 2018. She also has a novella out as part of this world called Dirty Lies, which follows the story of two characters we haven't met yet - Rayla Shaw the warden's daughter and Jai an inmate in Zone 4.

It's a bit odd to pen this review, when I haven't done the same for Guardian (Prison Planet), the first book in the series. Although I gave both 5 stars, I loved Guardian (Prison Planet) even more than Champion.

My only real complaint about Champion is that it seems like the adult version of The Hunger Games. Although the premise is clearly distinct, most of the major plot points are the same—.

Despite that, the author is an excellent writer, and I'm a sucker for someone who can turn out more than chickenscratch! This is the third work I've read by Emmy Chandler, and I'm looking forward to many more.

The third book in the Prison Planet series by Emmy Chandler. This book is easily read as a standalone. I loved books one and two and had high expectations with this one. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed! The heroine, Sylvie Wolfe, takes care of a problem that results in her ending up on the Prison Planet sentenced to death. Her only choice is how she will die....a quick painless injection or lethal combat in the arena? Sylvie picks combat even after the warden tries to change her mind. She will be in with the most desperate, dangerous, depraved men in the universe and she the only woman. Even if I hadn't read and loved her two previous books, just the story alone would have been enough to buy this book.

Before she even gets settled in, Sylvie has already had to defend herself by killing two men. It's while she is struggling with one of them that she meets the hero, Graham Anderson. Graham doesn't even think before he grabs Sylvie away and locks her into his cell right at lockdown. When the doors unlock at dawn, how will they keep away nearly a hundred criminals with foul intent? This book is so suspenseful. The writing is terrific and I was fully invested in cheering for them both. This is a book you just have to read!
