I cannot believe I read this in ONE sitting!!! Once again, Fleur Ferris dazzled me with an engrossing and intense YA thriller!!! A great story with an underlying message that yes the past CAN and WILL catch up with you. Set in a small town, this story is told in a dual perspective following Beth and Jonah. Multi perspective reads can suffer when characters cannot be easily differentiated however in this book, it was very easy to tell them apart, their voices and character were well defined and the story was very easy to follow. Action packed, fast paced, intense, chilling (at times) even heartbreaking. The ongoing mystery kept me in suspense and I really couldn’t put the book down. When I finally got my answers, my response was an ‘ahh! no way!’. (yes.. out loud in my living room). I also enjoyed how the story kept it real: both characters were thrown into situations where they had to be strong to survive and also deal with the reality of the situation but they were also vulnerable at the same time which makes them human. The moments when both Beth and Jonah were trying to collect their thoughts really put me in their minds as such, I came to care about these characters a lot. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy suspenseful YA thrillers. Great read!

Special thanks to Penguin Random House Publishers for sending me a review copy of this book.

Fast paced for the first 200 pages as the young Beth finds herself being hunted by a drug lord intent on revenge. Then some fill-in to the inevitable ending. A thriller maybe but all a bit hackneyed for me.

Found is....it is local and international, personal and for everyone, tight, tense yet still has humour.

It is very well researched and you never doubt its credibility.

Elizabeth (Beth) Miller: smart, tough, funny and hard working. Her life is about to change from small town rural Australia (described so beautifully by Fleur Ferris) to something that changes her, her friends, her town, her farm and most of all her family....if they really are her family?

Like all great books Found keeps jolting my mind as it is very thought provoking, very 'now' and most importantly a great read.

Can someone please explain to me why I just read what felt like a bad novelisation of some second rate action movie? Or why I was supposed to care about any of the characters?

I'm all for thrillers, but this one was just a mess.

Well it’s past midnight, no surprise. This is what Fleur Ferris does to me, turning a rational-bed-by-9.30 closet nana into a book addict. I read Found in 3 nights (which isn’t that quick compared to some of you fast readers out there but it’s lickitysplit for a girl like me). I’m inclined to nudge along but not when it comes to these adrenaline racing, page turning, YA thrillers that Ferris produces.

Basically, my best advice is put your plans on hold for a day or so when you pick this book up. It flies into action. The plot is tight, gripping, suspenseful and gleefully-action packed. Beth has some of my favourite moments

Safe review details:

This book must become a movie. I could picture everything, it was so cinematic. And then there are these perfect touches of crystalline imagery that almost take my breath away.

Something else that takes my breath away is the moment things get medical/police related (and in this case rice farm related) I know that what I am reading is grounded in facts and Fleur Ferris’s life experience. It makes the reading incredibly raw and confronting.

Big shoutout for the supporting cast. I loved Jonah, Trent, Warra and Willow. Ferris always gives her secondary characters 3 dimensional lives.

This has well kicked my reading slump in the shins. I need more books!!!

RATING: 3.5/5 stars
The July BOTM for The YA Circle is Fleur Ferris' 'Found'. I thought the concept of the book was really interesting and agree with others when saying that I think it would make a good movie adaption. As it was a short book I understand that she had to get straight into the drama but I felt like I needed another chapter or so to get to know the characters before everything was flipped on its head. The book reminds me of a mix of Taken and Tomorrow When the War Began. Others might not agree but I kind of wanted a bit more thrilling drama at the end, it seemed to be wrapped up to nicely.

Content warnings: death of a parent, death of a sibling (in the past), blood, gun violence, murder

Extremely fast paced and action packed. Would make a fantastic movie, that's for sure! The split narration worked effectively, and while the characters were perhaps a tad two dimensional, it was such a fast read that I honestly didn't care. The ending was a tad cheesy, but ultimately I didn't mind a little bit of cheese after such a relentless pace.

What I liked: the intensity.
BUT
I didn’t care, AT ALL.
I literally wanted to DNF this book around 90% of the time I was reading it.
It’s unfortunate because I love supporting Australian authors, but this wasn’t a book for me.

It’s a crime that I haven’t gotten around to reading this until now because holy crap what did I just read? My heart is still pounding! This book hits the ground running and is an on the edge of your seat thrill ride right up until the very end.

The plot was so fast paced with plenty of action. I guessed a couple of the plot twists but not all and I loved how the mystery was revealed piece by piece. It still blows my mind just how much the author can pack into a short 300 page book.

The characters were all likeable and relatable. I grew so attached and was riding that emotional rollercoaster along with them. This book had me in tears which rarely happens so it takes something spectacular to achieve that.

Fleur Ferris sure knows how to craft a realistic, believable and terrifying thriller and this is my new favourite book of hers.

Loved the cover, loved the idea, loved the chapters that were 'Beth'. Didn't enjoy the 'Jonah' chapters as they seemed oddly written.

Will recommend this and other Ferris novels to Y9-13 (ages 13-18). They are a tad violent, however they will appeal to the students who like action with a little bit of romance and they will work for that age spread.

Fleur's latest book is an intense and energetic novel that will grab your interest until the very end. The best thing about this book, or the worst depending on your reading style, is that there is little buildup to the action and drama of the plot. In the first three or four short chapters you're introduced to Elizabeth, her boyfriend Jonah and you get to know a little about her parents too but mostly you're just thrown right into the action. Being a short book I am glad that it went right into the action but at the same time I do enjoy going into a book connecting a little more to a character since I've been reading longer books lately so I didn't really get into the book until around the 50-100 page mark. Once I was into it though I was obsessed with finishing this book.

It's always interesting when you're experiencing the same thing as a main character in a book though and it was like that once all the secrets her parents had been hiding were all revealed to Elizabeth because she was very much in the dark about most of her parent's real lives so she was just as shocked and I was. I definitely think she handled it better than I would have though and she really stepped up to help her parents so that was so cool to read about as she took charge of her own situation.

Reading Found was definitely like watching a spy/action movie because while I was reading the book it was like I could hear the whooshing of the bullets and feel the same tension in the character's shoulders. The descriptive writing really put me in the shoes of the characters and it was fun to try a book I wouldn't usually read from an author I've really been wanting to read a book from for years. Now that I know how fast-paced and sweeping her books are I definitely want to go back and read her earlier books like Black and Risk since I've seen those fantastic covers so many times around everywhere.

(Thank you to Penguin Australia for sending a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Found is out now in stores and online in Australia!)

There's never a dull moment in a book by Fleur Ferris!

I love that this book takes place in a location I'm familiar with and visit often. It accurately depicts the feel of a small country town, and the description of The Waring Gardens is spot on, from the lake, to the wildlife, the gazebos and the trees (it wasn't hard picturing Beth and Jonah hiding out behind the biggest tree there, a feature of the garden and difficult to forget).

Just like Wreck, the action starts immediately and doesn't let up for a single moment. I love the fast pace, the descriptive writing and the characters are all well thought out, realistic and likeable.

I enjoyed every moment of this book. I loved the way the past is revealed throughout, piece by piece. I loved the chemistry between Beth and her family and Jonah. I'm constantly amazed at how Fleur fits so much into 300 pages.

Definitely worth finding yourself a copy!

Gripping book from the start. You are immediately thrown into the story.
The first problem in the book is Beth telling her controlling, over protective father about her first boyfriend Jonah. How ever this plan is thrown out completely when she discovers her father (Bear) has disappeared before her eyes.

We are quickly thrown deep into mystery of why, who, how?
It is all explained in the perfect amount of revealing the mystery and keeping the mystery going to keep you wanting to read.

All the characters in this book are so real feeling. They are easy to retaliate to. Easy to imagine in your head and so very easy to love.

There are twists and turns in every chapter keeping you wanting more and more questions to be answered.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting something easy to read yet soooo gripping to read. This book is perfect for anyone wanting to get into reading mystery books.

Fleur Ferris has redeemed herself in my books. Her first 2 novels, Risk and Black, were excellent, I loved them, they were both so fast-paced, thrilling and well written. It saddened me that her third novel, Wreck, was such a bore, I just didn’t like it, it wasn’t for me, so I was so happy that as I was reading this I was totally digging it, it definitely feels more in line with Risk and Black.

I love how Aussie her characters are, she writes about Australia in a way only a true blue Aussie would be able to. It’s always nice when you’re able to relate to a book the way I did with this one.

This book would make an excellent movie, the story progresses like a movie, it’s very cinematic, lots of action and never a dull moment.

Check it out!!

Fingers crossed we can expect at least a book a year from Fleur because she is quickly filling a niche with her pacy teen thrillers. I love her relatable characters, Australian backdrops and the relationships without the saccharine because they make her books accessible to younger teens. Found’s gutsy main character Elizabeth Miller thinks her biggest problem is confessing to her over-protective Dad that she’s been dating her Karate colleague Jonah...but she’s about to have her life turned upside down as she starts to learn everything she’s been told is lie.

I really really enjoyed Found. It kept me on edge with suspense. I loved the main characters and side characters so much. Each character had a story to tell and was wrapped up nicely. A novel that people must read... soooooo good

Ok I did enjoy this. Had no attachment to any of the characters though and it did seem a bit far fetched. I did like the fact that it started straight off, and kept on going until maybe the last few chapters then it wasn't as exciting!

Thanks to Random House Australia for sending me a copy of FOUND for review.

I read WRECK by Fleur Ferris last year and really enjoyed it, but I think I liked this one so much more. Fleur does such a great job at writing fast-paced, action packed thrillers filled with constant twists and turns that you never see coming. And FOUND was no exception.

THINGS I LOVED:
- I loved the dual perspective, switching between the POV of Beth in first person, and Jonah in third person
- There was also a little romance between these two characters that changed over the course of the novel for reasons that would be spoilers. But still it didn't take over the main plot of story line. It just added to it in the best way possible
- I met the author at the book launch and she used to work as a police officer, so obviously this book is widely researched and realistic. I loved how when things went bad, the teenage characters decided to call the police rather than solve everything their self!
- But Beth is still kick-ass and probably could've handled the antagonist on her own, anyway. She goes through so much in this book, and when she finds out that basically her whole life has been a lie, she handles it so much better than I ever could!
- Family was a big part of the novel, and maybe even the core theme of the story. Beth finds out a lot about her parents, and they go through a lot of this drama together throughout the book. I loved seeing them interact, and their relationship develop from what they went through
- It was also heartbreaking at times! No spoilers, but get ready...

Although mystery/thrillers aren't usually my go to stories to read, Fleur's fast paced and easy to follow and captive story lines are still able to drag me in. I plan on reading her first two novels one day as well!

It was pretty good, but it's not your average mystery story. Like, there weren't clues, red herrings, suspects, etc.
It was more that the characters had to be aware/careful of what was happening to them and the suspense was in the readers finding out secrets of the past, rather than the classic 'whodunnit?'
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting.
The main character, Elizabeth (Beth), is just a normal 17 year old girl living life when one day her dad disappears.
Then, her mum gets like really worried and stuff and tells her to get in the car, and they go to a bunker. And there are like people trying to shoot them.
Beth is sooo confused and is no idea what is happening. I feel really bad for Beth, because she literally finds out that her whole life is a lie
1. Her parents were part of a secret organization
2. She was born in america (she thought she lived in australia her whole life)
3. Her dad is not actually her dad, but her uncle
4. Her name isn't even Beth
5. Her parents aren't who they say they are
And I also loved the male lead, Jonah, who is Beth's boyfriend. His unconditional support is amazing and he was just an amazing asset to the book.
I would recommend this book to you for a quick, easy and thrilling read.

Fleur Ferris is a wonderful YA author and I am thrilled that she is a fellow Aussie. I have read all her novels now, but I think Found is my favourite. The author's background as a police officer and a paramedic give her books a feeling of authenticity and I was hooked from the start.

By the end of the first chapter the reader is thrown into the middle of the action. The tension, suspense, danger and terror Beth was facing made this a novel hard to put down. The descriptive writing made me feel as though I was right there with Beth, dodging bullets and trying to outwit the killers. The plot did slow somewhat about midway but picked up again near the end, coming to a satisfactory conclusion.

I loved Beth's friends - Willow, Jonah, Warra, Carly and Tent. They were all there for her when things became tough but gave her the space she needed when required. Even though there were guns, violence, swearing and the mention of drugs that might be off-putting for some younger teens, overall, Found was an exciting read and would make a great movie.
