This book was better than the second one. Although a little bit messy, there were a lot of things going on and Morgan is just losing her mind trying to solve everything. The Dragon queen is killing everyone who put in some blood to wake her up, Morgan may turn into a Dragon forever, Tavas disappeared into another fae trial, she is in a "relationship" with James but she doesn't really know if she likes him for him or for his power as a Dragon, and he old childhood abuser is helping the queen manipulating and killing people.

The main villain is her old childhood abuser which could've been Done more interestingly that the way it was done, there was little intimidation, he could've tortured her more by controlling her friends or something like that but no, he controlled someone she barely knew, killed a vampire she knew little of and that was it. She went to her house and he did capture her friends but nothing happened more than that. There was more potential to such a villain and it was disappointing.
Again as the other books, the romance was lacking and it doesn't call me, there was this slight suggestion that Morgan may like Tavas as well, and honestly it's more believable because they have talked more and are more developed than Morgan and James. But in the end it never goes downs this love triangle and it just ends up being James and Morgan being in love.

Magic Rising continues the saga of Morgan Drake and her quest to not only learn more about her dragon mage abilities, but also deal with the Dragon Queen. I actually expected the story to deal more with the Dragon Queen directly, but instead she played an almost supporting role in Morgan’s ever expanding understanding of herself. I liked this in some ways because some aspects of Morgan’s past, such as her relationship with Dr. Byers, were addressed; but I do feel like I would have also appreciated a bit more about the Queen. The tidbits found in the archives were a good taste, but now I want more.

As always, the interactions between the characters were believable and added to the personality of the story. I did really like the increased connection (no pun intended) between Tavas and Morgan, as it was nice to see that relationship mature more. I hope some of Tavas’s past, which was hinted at towards the end, will be expanded on as well. All in all Magic Rising was a good continuation of an increasingly action packed story and I look forward to seeing how all the various people and their abilities take down the Dragon Queen
Queen.

In full disclosure, I receive this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Magic Rising again starts with action right off the bat, picking up where the last book left off. The dragon queen is now the threat as they must figure out a way to stop her from taking over the world. They learn that the queen must kill or gain the fealty of all the dragon mages who were used in her awakening ceremony and immediately have to go on the offensive against her as the dragon mages start getting attacked.

I love the world that has been created for these books, and I am a sucker for magical, kick-butt heroines- these books are amazing! There was a little bit in the way of romance, I can't help but hope that the next book will explore Morgan and James' relationship more! The characters are all endearing and well-developed and there are no boring spots in the book! I am excited for book 4!

This ragtag bunch keeps fighting, saving their realm from destruction. The evil doctor and the dragon queen wants to win, they will do anything to win. But, the siren, the mage, the dragon, the vamp and the fae keeping winning to fight another day. There are twists and turns, you don't see coming. And, other twists and turns you know are going to happen. Its a fun read and you cheer for this rag tag bunch. Now you have to wait for the next installment.

Excellent Story

Good read (no pun intended).
Fast paced with no illogical jumps, Ms Chick had her Dragon Mage fixed well in her mind before ever starting to write the Dragon Mage series, and I really like the character (Yeah, even tho she's a young girl/lady who has a bit of ditz in her veins).
If this isn't a fun read for you, you might have to see a specialist to have your funny bone recalibrated.

Fantastic story. Emotionally draining for me at the start. Lots of action. A bit of romance. Great characters. I love Morgan and James, Dima and Alex. MacKenzie is as special as Morgan: I hope her role expands. Even Tavas is growing on me. Quinn is still unfamiliar but seems in good standing.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.

In this installment of The Dragon Mage series, Morgan finds herself surrounded by friends who are with her to help fight the bad guys. So much is going on in this book that will totally surprise you. Morgan faces many challenges and scary things. She often doubts herself but her friends standing by her don’t allow her to falter. I admire her courage in the face of adversity for even though she fears for her friends they stand strong with her. Now we must wait (not very patiently!) for the next book to see how it all pans out (grrrr!).
