When a costly mistake ends Malorie Montgomery’s career, she returns to Cape Cod in search of a fresh start. But her plans for a new—and quiet—life are quickly derailed when she makes a grisly discovery in the woods, and her screams bring the one person from her past she’d hoped to avoid. Dean Slater, the ex-boyfriend who broke her heart in high school, now lives in the beachfront community that was supposed to be her haven…and he’s just as hot as he was six years ago.
With his rough background, Dean always knew he wasn’t good enough for the kind, intelligent beauty who claimed his heart, but somehow he’d believed their love was strong enough to survive anything—until the tragic night she turned her back on him when he needed her trust the most. Despite their painful history, Dean can’t resist the instinct to protect her, especially when it becomes apparent there’s a killer in their town.
Their former chemistry soon reignites, but Malorie has long accepted that her dark family secret has destined her to a life alone. And when she uncovers evidence that makes her the killer’s target, a deadly confrontation threatens to destroy any possibility of a second chance.

Malorie came back to Cape Cod after six long years, searching for peace, a chance to heal and to make a fresh start in the place she called home. Was it the right thing to do when even the waves dancing over the water held dark secrets? The ghosts of the past were everywhere, but none were as horrific as what she found buried in the bushes or the man who responded to her screams…
Dean Slater, the boy who broke her heart was now her rescuer? Could things get worse? He betrayed her once and she never got over it. Now they have another painful memory to share. Welcome home.
No way could the scream he heard have come from the last woman he ever thought he would see again. Dean came from the wrong side of the tracks, and in a toney area like Sandalwood, he stuck out like a sore thumb but Malorie never made him feel he was beneath her, even though he knew he could never be enough for her, something she proved in spades the night he needed her most…
Kathryn Knight’s DANGEROUS CURRENTS is yet another dramatic and suspenseful romance with real people, real emotions and real pain. Unreconciled betrayals, his pain, her pain and somewhere in the middle lies the truth of what happened the last day they were an item. Then there are the dark secrets that haunt their lives and changed the course of what should have been their love story.
Six years later, their hearts still drawn together like moths to a flame, a monster still lurks in the shadows and even a second chance at love could prove deadly.
Ms. Knight knows how to bring her characters to life! We are invited into their heads, their hearts and to hear their thoughts, feel their fears and can only hope Fate will prove that some people are meant to be together, come Hell or high water, but will their pride stand in their way? Can their love withstand one last horror? If the heat between them is any indication...
The tension that runs through Kathryn Knight’s words, each scene and page is razor sharp. One cannot help but feel that all of the answers lay just out of reach as each layer is unveiled and “the plot thickens.” I love a story where I can honestly say, “I didn’t see THAT coming!” A second chance at romance, layers of suspense…priceless reading!

DANGEROUS CURRENTS by Katheryn Knight is a contemporary second chance romance with a suspense sub-plot. This book focuses more on the romance, past and present and the difficulties facing the H/h to get to their HEA than the suspense occurring in the background during the same time period. It is a well written, emotionally charged romance due to long held secrets and misunderstandings more than a romantic suspense as the summary leads you to believe.
Malorie Montgomery has returned to Cape Cod for a fresh start. She plans on helping her best friend set up her non-profit and teach business courses at the local community college. While taking her dog for a walk, she stumbles on a partially buried body. When she screams for help the boy, now man, who broke her heart in high school and never left her thoughts, shows up to help.
Dean Slater is surprised when he sees who called out for help while he is out on his run. She is back after seven years. Dean cannot believe the attraction is still as strong as it was their senior year of high school. He was the poor boy who had nothing to offer this rich girl, and yet she chose him. Now, Dean and his brother inherited the house just down the street from Malorie’s and there is no way they will not run into each other around the Cape.
Malorie has a family secret that keeps her from a permanent relationship and Dean still feels inferior and undeserving of Malorie, but the heat and attraction is still there on both their parts. Misunderstandings and misconceptions need to be cleared up, secrets need exposed and danger is lurking in the background.
This is a romance that has so many layers. There is the poor boy and the rich girl high school first loves, Malorie’s secret that Dean never knew about, Dean’s shame of his step-father going to prison and his brother not stepping up as a responsible father-to-be. Dean is always the responsible one and the protector. Malorie and Dean’s relationship progresses in a realistic way and the sex scenes are hot. The suspense sub-plot of the murdered girl Malorie and Dean find adds some tension and intrigue to the story with a surprise who-done-it, but the romance could really stand on its own without it. This is a second chance romance worth reading.

The last place Malorie expected to be was back in the same town as her high school sweetheart and the one man who crushed her heart, Dean. He’s never far from her thoughts but it’s been six years and surely, he’s moved away, right?
She’s taking her dog for a walk when she stumbles over a partially buried body. She screams bloody murder and the one man she can’t handle seeing again appears before her. In the flesh and not a part of her wild imagination, Dean appears as if to rescue her. It’s as if the universe is giving her a redo. Can she reveal her long-buried feelings towards him or is it too late? She better figure it out and soon, because there’s a killer on the loose and his sights are set on her.
I’m a huge romantic suspense fan and I must admit, Dangerous Currents had me guessing until the very end. Malorie and Dean are addictive to read and I give full credit to the author for the dual POV. Not only did I get a chance to piece together what happened six years ago, but I got to see inside Dean’s heart. He’s a blue-collar guy who work hard to get over his family’s misdeeds. He’s got a lot of pent-up feelings for Malorie and her father yet puts all that aside when her life is in danger.
The second-chance romance between Malorie and Dean lit up my e-reader. Talk about intense! There’s plenty of obstacles between these two yet if they can talk it all out, there might be a chance for a happily-ever-after for these two. Serious topics come up including mental illness, drinking, suicide and family drama. Kathryn Knight portrays it all brilliantly and I give her kudos for not glossing over it.
I started reading Dangerous Currents and couldn’t stop reading. Yes, it was that good! Highly recommend, especially if you like romantic suspense.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in the hopes I’d review it.
Favorite Character/Quote: Malorie. When I first started reading, she was a puzzle to me. I didn’t quite understand her reactions and emotions to Dean until much later. As the story unfolds, it all becomes clear and instantly I wanted to wrap my arms around her and tell her it’s going to be okay. She’s been through so much, but she doesn’t need to be alone suffering in silence anymore.
This is a suspense filled second chance romance set in Cape Cod and featuring Malorie Montgomery and Dean Slater. Their High School romance finished abruptly because of a misunderstanding but it broke Malorie’s heart and she’s anticipating seeing him again now, six years later. However, when her screams on discovering grisly remains bring him running to her rescue, he still wants to protect her and their attraction to each other is as strong as ever. As a killer stalks the town, danger threatens and Malorie could be a future victim . . . .
This is an enthralling mix of serial killer investigation and second chance romance with a real twist at the end - I didn’t see that coming, though it was obvious once you knew what had happened! There are secrets to be uncovered, misunderstandings to be cleared up and communication will be the key to them achieving any chance of a HEA together in this enthralling romantic suspense and crime thriller.
I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
This was a pretty good read and my first time reading this author. Malorie and Dean parted ways seven years earlier without even being able to talk or say goodbye. After all those years apart they are united over a dead body in the woods of Cape Cod. As these two work together to solve this mystery their past keeps getting in the way of them having a future together. I liked both of these characters Malorie is guarded because of her dad. Dean is hot sexy and I liked him. This was my first time reading this author but not my last. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
A rather lopsided romantic suspense (not a lot of focus on the suspense or any background for why the crimes were perpetrated, and the who was a bit of a shock -- even if I did have the name on my list of suspects. I was disappointed -- there was a lot of potential and the writing was good. The characters were interesting and with some solid story development, this could have been a much better read. The romance was hot and heavy -- the angst started on page one and continued through to almost the very end. A very fast wrap-up that did give the couple a HEA. This was my first read by Kathryn Knight.
A fresh start, a second chance romance amd a serial killer. What more could a suspense loving romance reader want? A surprising twist just when you forget you were reading a book about a serial killer. I read this one in 2 sittings. Quick easy read, good story and the dog doesn't died! I was scared for a minute.

Coming home after 7 years, Malorie Montgomery returns home to Cape Cod. While out on a run with her dog, they stumble across a dead body. When she screams out, never in her wildest dreams did she imagine the person who would come to her rescue would be her high school sweetheart… who broke her heart. Dean Slater never imagined he would see Malorie again… and definitely not under these circumstances. As Malorie and Dean grow close again, can the two of them solve this mystery before Malorie is next?
This was a very emotional second chance romance. Watching Malorie’s and Dean’s relationship blossom was something to see. Both characters have secrets from their past, which lead to misunderstandings and unnecessary heartache. The development of their relationship was perfect… and so were the love scenes. Second chance romance typically isn’t my thing, but I might have to change my stance that after reading Dangerous Currents.
Malorie Montgomery had a life and career working for her father in London, England but when she makes a crucial mistake both are derailed and she returns home to Cape Cod. She decides to help her best friend Julia setting up the Friendship Farm focusing on doing something that helps children with disabilities. She happens to be out walking her dog, Brady, the day after she gets back and ends up finding a dead woman's body in the woods. While screaming after finding the body she hears her ex-boyfriend's voice and thinks that it's her imagination. Now forced to not only face the man who broke her heart six years ago but also try to find a way to get along with him since he lives five houses down from her now. Despite the hurt feelings there is still chemistry between them but Malorie has a dark family secret that causes her to believe that she must live her life alone. Will she be able to let go of the past and find a second chance with Dean?
I was able to read this book thanks to the Winter Games Readers Challenge on Facebook. This story is very well written and progresses, slow and steadily, into a pretty great climax of events. I was worried about the slowness of the story because, of course, if something moves slowly and doesn't feel like it has progressed and you end up with an anticlimactic ending. But this story is NOT that. One of my favorite things about this book is that it was a complete start to finish. I didn't have to wonder about the what ifs involving the ending or characters. It was an all encompassing storyline that I really loved reading. I actually wouldn't mind reading more about them in later books.
I became invested in the relationship between Malorie and Dean and the secrets that they both seemed to hold on to which is why the story seemed liked it was progressing slowly but in reality I had read 100 pages without even realizing it. There were times where I wanted to scream and shout at both of these characters to just talk to each other. Other times I really just wanted to know about what happened in Malorie's past that made her think the way she was thinking. I did, however, appreciate the fact that everything didn't happen within the first few days and it did took weeks of them going back and forth with each other before really talking about things and really (finally) putting it all on the table.
I thought that the characters were super well rounded, they had a past, present, and hopefully future with or without each other (you'd have to read the book). I just really enjoyed the relationship that was forming with all of the characters, main and supporting, and learning about how they came to be together in first place. It helped the feel of chemistry between them when Dean showed a protectiveness of Malorie even after feeling the hurt and anger towards her for so long.
*FTC Disclaimer: I received a copy of Dangerous Currents from Kathryn Knight in exchange for an honest review. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher's generosity. You can't fake these stars, baby!
Malorie is ready for a do-over. After losing her job, she returns to Cape Cod to start a new life teaching business classes at the local community college.
(This is where it gets good...)
When her dog uncovers a human foot on their morning walk, Malorie's redo ends up being more than she bargained for.
First of all, what would you do if you found a foot on your morning walk? I mean...would you tell someone? Malorie doesn't need to tell anyone, because at the sound of her horrified scream, Dean Slater, her high school ex-boyfriend (and the guy who broke her heart) comes running to the rescue.
Dean bothered me at first. He was there at the perfect time, with his perfectly good looks. Gross. Go be hot somewhere else. Great name, though...
"Dean used to say she was beautiful. But then, Dean was a liar. And she’d been a fool to believe him, about that of anything."
Back in the day, Dean knew he would never be good enough for Malorie. Yeah, and he shouldn't think he's all of a sudden good enough for her now, am I right? He had neither the money nor the background to deserve a girl like her, but she loved him anyway.
When a painful misunderstanding cost them their high school romance, it destroyed him. Now that she's back, Dean finds that his feelings for her never died, and with her living just down the street, there's a sure chance they'll be seeing more of each other. But when the dead body leads to word of a serial killer and the killer sets sights on Malorie, they may not get the second chance they were both hoping for.
“'No. I’m alone.' The moment the words left her mouth, she realized how true they were. In every sense."
Eep! Kathryn Knight has done it again. This woman is unparalleled in how she tells romantic suspense. Eerie, romantic, and totally binge-worthy. I'll feast my eyes on Kathryn Knight's books any. freaking. day.
London, England. Bradic Place. Malorie Montgomery had moved. Cape Cod, (Vineyard Sound; Ontoquas Bay peninsula) MA. Beach Plum Drive. Malorie, & Brady (dog) went for a jog. She was teaching introductory business classes at the local community college. It had been 6 yrs. Dean Slater (25) was Malorie’s ex-BF. Brady had ran off & unearthed something. A human foot.
Just so happens Dean was out jogging & heard her scream. Dean had called the police from his house. He worked for Firenze Landscaping. 7 Beach Plum Drive. Detective Charles Rayburn (40+), & Detective Yarborough arrived at Malorie’s house. Julia (Mallorie’s BFF) had come over to find out what was going on. The Boat House. Julia introduced Pete Butler (Julia’s B/F, gym owner) to Mallorie. Eric Hightower (Malorie’s ex-BF, Sandalwood lifeguard) was there also. Alec Thompson, Dean, Cherry Jones, Matt Slater (20+, younger ½-brother), & Mason were out partying there also.
What did Ruth Cole Jessica’s mother want to see Dean about? Will the murder mystery be solved & someone brought to justice?

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. A very well written romantic suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great romantic suspense movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It wasn’t as exciting as I hoped so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Dangerous Currents began with the discovery of a young, dead woman. Malorie was only back in Cape Cod for 14 hours when her and her dog, Brady, stumbled upon the gruesome finding. It was a startling encounter and so was the following moment when her ex-love, Dean, came running when he heard her scream. Talk about a bad day.
Dean, the ex who stole Malorie’s heart as a teenager, came to her rescue a few times in this story. He was there for her when it mattered most and she didn’t let him push her away when his world came crashing down around him.
For the most part, this story was an okay read. I only wish two things.
I wish more time was spent on the psychopath. I wish the psychopath’s identity wasn’t so easy to figure out.
Even though much time wasn’t really spent on this mentally ill man, I did appreciate the fact mental illness was addressed in this story. Mental illness isn’t discussed enough in our society and it should be.
Mal’s mom suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. Mal was concerned she would develop symptoms soon. It’s why she shied away from Dean. She didn’t want to burden him with the illness. She had no intention of having children because she stated there’s a 12% chance a child would develop schizophrenia if a parent is affected with it. These are fears many individuals face on a daily basis.
Kathryn Knight pointed out another truth about mental illness. People with mental illness want love, to be loved, but they don’t want to sidle people with the negative aspects of their illness.
For addressing this real issue many people battle, I thank you. We need more people talking about mental illness. Everyone deserves a happily ever after like Malorie.
Dangerous Currents by Kathryn Knight is an emotional, poignant second chance romance as well as a darky intense tale of murder.
Youthful insecurities and a series of misunderstandings six years earlier had split them apart during high school, but Malorie Montgomery and Dean Slater are reunited at the scene of a gruesome murder in the woods while Malorie’s walking her dog Brady.
Malorie has returned to the small Cape Cod town where she spent her summers after leaving her job in the UK for mysterious reasons. She worked with her father in the family business, and moving forward, it’s easy to guess that Malorie and her father had some kind of falling out.
Now, she’ll be teaching some classes at the local community college while working with her best friend Julia to create a riding retreat for kids with disabilities (which by the way, is a very worthwhile cause. While my autistic son was growing up, he looked forward, more than anything in the world, to the few times a year where he got to spend time riding horses with specialized safety equipment.)
Dean is working as a landscaper, hoping to buy the business from the owner when he retires. The attraction between Malorie and Dean seems stronger than ever and before long they begin to rethink the past and decide to talk.
Will Dean finally tell Malorie the truth about why he stood her up all those years ago, and will Malorie reveal the dark secret which has her convinced that she can’t have a relationship with anyone?
Who could the murderer be? As old friends and enemies are introduced in the story, the author skillfully leaves the reader second guessing the dark side of everyone in the small Cape Cod town. There are twists and turns up until the very end of the story.
Excellent Romantic Suspense!! I give it five stars!!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author in exhange for an honest review. This did not influence me in any way.
I had never read or even heard of Kathryn Knight before I received this book. Once I started Dangerous Currents I could not put it down. Malorie Montgomery comes back to Cape Cod at her father's request. A costly mistake at work in London proved to be her undoing there. Once back to Ontoquas on the Cape with her dog, Brady, she is out for a run and finds Brady digging like crazy in the leaves. She looks a little closer and finds he has uncovered a human foot. She lets out a piercing scream. It is Dean Slater who comes to her rescue. It comes to light that he lives only a few doors down from her. It has been six years since she last saw him. They dated during her senior year and they thought they were each others forever. Each has not forgotten the other even after all this time. But each has dark secrets in their past that they cannot let go of.
As much as they tried to avoid each other , it was a small town and often ran into each other. Malorie is determined that she cannot get involved with Dean again. She can never marry him. He feels he isn't worthy of her. She comes from a privileged life and he is from the wrong side of the tracks. You will find that love works in strange ways. You will surely shed some tears and hold your breath more than once. Besides being a wonderful love story there is also a bit of suspense. I am so glad I was able to review this book and it deserves every one of the five stars.
DANGEROUS CURRENTS is a stand-alone, second-chances, suspense romance.
I loved the intense emotion that filled every page of this wonderful story.
Dean and Malorie are high school sweethearts reunited under grisly circumstances and fighting to develop a relationship despite past misunderstandings, assumptions, and secrets. Their attraction is palpable, though Malorie fights it every step of the way. Family secrets block their path to happily ever after.
I loved that Dean and Malorie talk to each other as adults should. They are no longer the teenagers they were when they met.
Once they drop their walls and lean on one another they are both stronger. Isn’t that the way of life. That’s what I love about Kathryn Knight’s writing. She creates characters that I love and can believe in being real.
The suspense plot was well thought out and hints were dropped in small bits along the way. The build up was perfectly timed and the reveal was a beautifully orchestrated piece of heart stopping action – just the way I like it.
This is the third book I have read from this author and I couldn’t be happier to say that I have been invited to read her newest release, THE HAUNTING OF HILLWOOD FARM. You now have that review to be watching for in the near future.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via BookSprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: DANGEROUS CURRENTS Series: N/A Category /Genre: Romantic Suspense Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: Kathryn Knight (as an ARC gifted copy)
If you like romantic suspense, then don’t miss out on this read by Amazon #1 bestselling author, Kathryn Knight. The book has everything: romance, danger, hidden secrets, and plenty of suspense.
It begins when the heroine, Malorie, returns to Cape Cod after spending six years in England going to school and working for her father’s investment firm. She arrives back at the family home with her dog, having been dismissed from her employment because of a botched trade that cost one of her clients a bundle of money.
Only home one day, she takes her dog for a walk in the woods and, by an unfortunate set of circumstances, discovers a dead body. She screams, alerting a nearby jogger, who turns out to be Dean Slater, her high school sweetheart and lost love. He, for reasons unknown, jilted her on prom night breaking her heart.
The book takes off from here with an ample cast of suspicious characters who might end up being the serial rapist and killer. In addition, there is plenty of suppressed heat between Malorie and Dean as they try to unravel the mystery and deal with their own secrets that, unfortunately, led to the dissolution of their relationship.
This is a fast-paced read with something happening on every page. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of Cape Cod having spent some time there when I was in college.
As I said at the beginning of this review, if you like romantic suspense, then Dangerous Currents is right up your alley! Highly recommended. Five stars!
Kathryn Knight writes books that are full of suspense, mystery, and drama. Dangerous Currents is a dramatic romance with characters that are relatable with real emotions and real feelings. I found myself being pulled into the story at the beginning and never coming up for air until I finished the entire book.
Dangerous Currents starts with Malorie returning home to Cape Cod after being gone for 6 years. While hiking with her dog she comes across a body. Who hears her screams for help? Her high school boyfriend Dean, who broke her heart many years ago. I could feel the sparks and see the attraction from their first meeting. I enjoyed that they didn’t just fall back together. They both had misconceptions of what happen the night of their senior prom and they had to work together to move past those feelings.
My only wish is that while Kathryn Knight explores the feelings between Malorie and Dean that the murder wasn’t pushed to the side. I felt like the there should have been police work going on or other mentions of what was happening after the body was found. The murder was lost in the beginning of the story when it was brought back up later in the story.
I never saw the end coming, I knew it had to end and that secrets would need to be revealed but I was entirely shocked at how the story came together. As I read the last words I knew it was the perfect way to end a wonderful story.
Thoughts: I rarely read a book in one sitting anymore, especially one this long. It’s just too hard on my eyes. Then I pick up a book like this. Okay, I did take a break for meals and to sleep, but still… I just kept reading when I could. There is a lot going on in this book. Secrets from the past that haunt both the hero and heroine. Malorie has returned to the beachfront home owned by her father after six years in London. But the house is not the haven she was looking for. Instead, on her first day back, she finds a dead body in the woods and her screams bring the one person she had hoped never to see again. Dean, Malorie’s old boyfriend, comes running but he is not happy to see who screamed and why. The chemistry between the two of them is still there, but so many secrets keep them apart. And then there’s the killer. When Malorie discovers who it is, she knows she will be next.
There is a lot of conflict in this book. And hot love that will set you to fanning yourself. Beautifully done.
Recommendation: Recommended.

A dramatic book that has Malorie Montgomery coming back to Cape Cod six years after a tragic event in her life. On returning she is first still dealing with being sent away from the job she had by her father, and then on top of that being sent from England to the U.S. Now back and trying to sort through her feelings, emotions, she is set another double shock by finding a body while jogging on the beach and also coming face to face with Dean Slater who was her high school boyfriend and the one who broke her heart. Being back also brings back emotions that she thought she had put away deep inside of her, but now with a mistake at work, her father’s lack of support and what is happening to her on Cape Cod she is starting to believe that she is actually going crazy. The author takes you on a journey through these different characters while crimes are happening, and you are seeing Malorie believe she is falling apart. You get a look at what happens to a family with someone who is dealing with mental health issues, and for a parent of multiple children who have the disorder that is talked about in this book the author has done a good job in addressing what it is like. For this and just the story in general which has suspense and some mystery, it is a very good book, with good characters. I gave this book 5 stars follow us www.1rad-readerreviews.com
Dangerous Currents is set in a small town on Cape Cod, and is a good second chance romance, filled with resentment, insecurities, secrets, danger and mystery; a perfect for a cold, winter night. Attracting the read from the first chapter, with a story line that is quite unique and characters that are kindly damaged and well developed and the chemistry between her characters; the reader can connect to the character’s internal mayhem, as if they were real people.
Author Kathryn Knight writes romantic suspense stories with dark twisty plots, fascinating the readers and keeping the readers turning the pages, until they have finished the whole book. Ms. Kathryn Knight has a wonderful writing talent; she writes the setting of the stories where it virtually becomes like another character. The reader feels as though they are there with the characters; walking along the sandy beach or the forest along the shoreline. And bringing in the danger in an imaginative way; so, the readers will not forget it is still a part of the storyline. Readers both exciting and satisfied; while on the edge of their seat all at the same time.
I recommend Dangerous Currents, a summertime beach read, to any reader looking for a suspenseful read. Also, the reader should read some of Ms. Kathryn Knight's other books with titles like: Haunted Souls, Gull Harbor, Silver Lake and Divine Fall; the reader will not be disappointed with any of Ms. Kathryn Knight’s stories. Both books I have read (Divine Fall and Dangerous Currents) are 5-star reads! Thank you, Ms. Kathryn, for sharing your stories and your writing talents, I feel in love with the characters and the storyline; definitely a book to re-read.
Malorie Montgomery was looking for a fresh start in Cape Cod. She never expected to stumble upon a human foot―one that belonged to a dead woman.
Story started off kinda slow. It was the discovery of the dead body that began to simmer some tepid curiosity. Who was this woman? How did she end up in an unmarked grave? And was this an accident...or murder? With her mind a whirlwind of chaos, Malorie could barely hold it together. Fortunately―or rather unfortunately―she had the aid of an old flame, one who broke her heart into smithereens.
The story had the makings of turning into a decent mystery, however, it continued to hold a consistent lag, which may be the reason why I couldn't develop a connection with the characters. I just didn't care about them as much as I should've, and I should have felt something for them considering the weight of emotion contained within the story. Although the author had a good writing craft, I just wasn't too taken by the story.
The story grabs you from the beginning with the introduction of Malorie. A young woman who has returned to her family's beach house in Cape Cod with a chance to help her friend Julia start a new project. While walking her dog Brady, she stumbles upon a dead woman and her screams grab the attention of her past flame, Dean. What ensues is a second chance romance. Both Malorie and Dean have secrets that are slowly revealed, but will they be able to overcome their past and fall in love again. Ms. Knight excelled at this portion of the story and dealt with the "disease" state that was holding Malorie back from loving brilliantly. I would have liked a bit more of the mystery component of the story. There was one chapter about the killer/rapist's thoughts and some mentions of the incidents. A little more emphasis on the suspense would have improved the book tremendously. However it is a wonderful read for lovers of second chance romances.
Dangerous Currents is romantic suspense with emphasis on the romance. The second chance for Malorie and Dean is good if a little drawn out, but it overshadows the suspense. The body is found early in the story, and we even get a couple of chapters from the viewpoint of the killer, but after that, it becomes secondary to the romance until almost the end of the book. At that point, it's time for the big reveal and an edge of the seat bit of action. I did guess the identity of the killer before the reveal, but it still adds a good twist to the story. The author is clearly talented, and I liked the characters. I would've preferred a better balance between the romance and the suspense, but the story did hold my interest and I'll be interested to see what this author does next.
Within the first chapter of Dangerous Current’s, Kathryn Knight entices the reader to root for a rekindled romance between two childhood sweethearts, finding each other again over - a dead body. Misunderstandings and uncontrollable forces have kept Dean and Malorie apart for six years, but an undeniable connection and an unsolved murder case bring them back together. Fans of romantic suspense will delight in this reunited love story but may find themselves searching for the elemental suspense. I would recommend Dangerous Currents to romance readers looking for an easy summertime novel.
#RRWARS Review: Six years have passed since they last spoke. A high school relationship more torn and bloody than the recently discovered murder victim terrifying the Cape Cod community. Dean Slater wasn’t the reason she came back, but now, Malorie Montgomery can’t shy away from the lingering connection she tried to forget. DANGEROUS CURRENTS provided all the romance needed to tug on my heartstrings, but also left me twiddling my thumbs while I waited for the suspense. Overall, this is a good summertime novel for romance readers, but fans of mysteries and thrillers may be left hanging while Dean and Malorie sort out their differences.
I love a good second chance romance, and this is a great one! The suspense is enticing in the first chapter, becoming a little more subtle in the middle, but the author always brings us back to the danger in creative ways so we don't forget it's still hanging over their heads. The wrap-up is both exciting and satisfying. The characters are nicely flawed, the story line is really quite unique and, even though a happy ending is expected in the romance genre, there were a few moments at the end that had me wondering! I definitely recommend this one as a summertime beach read -- but don't go walking too far into the woods by yourself after starting it!
Kathryn Knight's book, Dangerous Currents is a really entertaining book. Malorie Montgomery returns to Cape Cod for a fresh start away from her father's business and to help her friend, Julia, start Friendship Farms. Shortly after her return, her dog, Brady, discovers a dead body near her beach house. Her screams bring her ex-boyfriend, Dean Slater, to help. Malorie and Dean soon discover that their break-up years ago was actually caused by a misunderstanding. But now her family secrets and his family responsibilities threaten a possible future together. This book has interesting characters, twists and turns, and surprises. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you'll like this one.
Malorie's and Dean's story is a definite page turner and hard to put down till you finish type of book. Complicated and misinterpreted events in the past, insecure and hurt feelings, jealousy, secrets, and an illness that might/might not come be certainly takes them on a roller coaster ride. Add in a rapist/murderer among their midst and you will find that this story certainly will have you on the edge of your seat at times and totally immersed . I loved Brady and feel everyone should have a Brady in their lives and was so happy at the end that they got him a buddy to hang out with. Highly recommend this one.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I enjoyed her book. She has a great plot and held my attention as she led me through this story of second chances and murder mystery. The characters have great chemistry even though they have baggage from their history together. The story and characters jumped off the page as I found myself absorbed in the story. This is an author I look forward to reading more from, I enjoyed her writing style and she wrote an exciting book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mallorie moves back to her hometown in Cape Cod , after being away for six years her feelings for her first love Dean hasn’t changed. There’s a serial killer in town , lots of surprises and tons of passion . This story unfolded so perfectly, Mallorie questioning her future with Dean caused by what ifs ... And Dean ready to give up and leave town because he feels guilty and responsible for things that he was unaware of and had no control of .. Loved this story so much !!
