I adored this novella, taking it in slowly, trying to make the story last, and ended up engrossed in Shanti’s life. Keeping in mind, the author has ties to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and I am in America, I’ve set aside any differences in the use of English language to simply fall in love with this story. One could be upset at social injustices. Yet, living life as Shanti lived it, I came to understand the ingrained acceptance and desire in these women to make a life out of what is commonplace. Yet, Shanti, wrestles with her emotions, waning back and forth until she finally comes to realize what is truly important to her. In this book, the Diary, found in the Epilogue brought my feelings full circle as I came to understand the love shared btwn her and her children; perfectly complimenting my journey through her life. I give this debut author a high rating for emotions, character enrichment, and its powerful message.
