Haunted Lansing

Rate this book
Hastily dubbed the new capital in 1847, Lansing overcame derision and setbacks to become a booming metropolis. Yet its rich history hides chilling legends. Bertie Clippinger plays tricks on the unwary at the Capitol Building, where the teen accidentally fell to his death when a game went horribly wrong. One of Lansing's founding families keeps a spectral vigil over its homestead, the Turner Dodge House. Malevolent spirits, believed to be either neglected students or victims of something far more sinister, stalk the derelict Michigan School for the Blind. A witch's vengeful curse follows those who trespass on Seven Gables Road, one of the state's most haunted stretches. Founder of Demented Mitten Tours and local author Jenn Carpenter leads readers to the dark side of the Capital City.

I'll always be interested in anything Lansing related. Add in paranormal activity and crimes and you have me hooked. This book serves as a great springboard into learning more about haunted locations in Lansing and the surrounding towns. The stories were detailed and definitely made me want to visit some of these locations in person. They also encouraged me to do some internet searches of my own to learn even more.

As a Lansing resident I was so glad I gave this book a read as it has a lot of fun historical facts about Lansing and the surrounding areas coupled with some fantastic ghost stories. I really thought adding in all the historical facts and context made the book much more than just some ghost stories that happened around Lansing. You can tell the author did some heavy research in writing this book. I definitely recommend it as I learned a lot about Lansing and its surrounding cities as well as some killer ghost stories.

An interesting overview of many of the local ghost stories from the Lansing area, with lots of accompanying (black and white) photos. You will learn a bit about the history of the area while getting some spooky thrills! If you are a ghost buff and a longtime Lansing resident, you may have heard many of these stories before, but it’s still a page-turner! I could read a hundred of these stories! (Would I actually visit these haunted locations? HECK NO!!!) 👻👻👻👻

You know.... It kept me entertained. I liked the local history of the area. Just had me wanting more info. The writing was good. It just wasn't my style. Not really a spooky book or one that's keeping you on a cliff hanger. I liked it and will pass the book on to a friend.

Cool to read the abridged backstories on these ghost stories. All told in a quick, witty and factual way. I can say I know the author, so I could hear the story as if she were reading it.

Being a native of Michigan I had no idea about the reported paranormal activity in locations in the mid Michigan area, many close to my hometown. The book was an easy read and very informative.
