Arc Book Review
Release Date-30/8/18
This was an enjoyable read that for me was slightly swings and roundabouts in nature.
There were some things here that I loved; while others not so much.
It had an extremely unique style of narration using four separate POV's rather than the more common one or two and rather than concentrating on just one individual couple here we get the added bonus of two; who each seem to share the spotlight equally.
This was a very unique concept that I haven't seen used that often.
A two-fer if you will.
The style of storytelling used here I initially found a trifle confusing, it did eventually start to grow on me and while I did feel a tad more connected to Sven and Rose, as the story unfolded Boss and Lacy also started to dig deeper and start to burrow beneath my skin.
So why not a higher star rating?
Well, I did struggle somewhat with the brutality depicted here and my final rating does reflect this slightly.
I do like my dark fiction but for some reason here I had issues wrapping my head around Boss's actions towards Lacy; his complete disconnect to Lacy as a fellow human being and his single-minded focus on his own personal goals at the expense of Lacy was really difficult to comprehend or even understand.
It wasn't even that the abuse happened, after all, I went into this with my eyes wide open.
Its that It came at the hands of the man who is essentially her future heart.
And yes I have read this type of thing before in my dark fiction its just Boss seemed to take it to a whole new level of extreme that shocked even me.
This was hardcore abuse that I found difficult to process and I just couldn't find it in my heart to forgive him for his incomprehensible actions towards Lacey.
He essentially broke her which I found unforgivable.
And no it doesn't give you a free pass if someone else is inflicted your orders.
There carrying out your wishes so your still ultimately responsible.
In some ways, it's worse.
I found Sven and Rose while initially starting this a much more likeable proposition.
He even internalises that he couldn't treat Rose this way.
I also should mention this ends on a cliffhanger which whilst not bothering me just thought I'd pre-warn you.
I think the next Installment is already out anyway.
At its essence "Roses and Thorns" is an interesting dark read that really pushed my boundaries far past what I was comfortable with.
This can be good or bad depending on your perception and mindset as sometimes we need to experience things outside of our compact little boxes.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be continuing on here as I'm afraid I definitely reached my hard limit with the treatment of Lacy.
I'm not going to recommend this, either way, it all depends on your own personal dark barometer.
Just be aware going in that this is rather upsetting in places.

Messed up that you can’t look away
This is like reality TV it is just so messed up you can’t stop watching. There is so much F-ed up people in this book I don’t think there is a normal one in the book. I came so close to DNFing this but again the sickness of it all kept me reading. Those women are the biggest doormats, especially Rose. Lacey...Lacey has gone through so much she should be committed for life but she is still loyal even when he is the one that did it all to her.
I can’t look away so I will be a dumb person and read the next.

If you love Dark Mafia romance like me you will love this book, I received an ARC copy for my honest review. Rose fights the attraction she has for Sven but every time he touches her she can't hold back :). Sven fights his softer instincts but Rose has become an obsession with him. I loved these two characters, well done to Bry Ann on a great read.
Roses and Thorns is a Romance with graphic depictions of violence, sexual scenes and dark elements.
This was a book that kept me interested from the beginning to the end. I recommend this book to everyone that loves their books with a little spice.

Rose...Sven..Mafia...darkness..drama...I'm sold! Sven has big plans for his future. He's started at the bottom of the food chain and now its time to reap what he sowed years ago.
During his mission, he stumbles upon Rose. Yep she kaboozled his dark mafia, arrogant, sexy self to his knees! He's not a soft guy. His penchant for violence is pretty graphic but hey what REAL mafia wise guy is soft?
This story is dark and dramatic. My two favorite words to describe the mafia genre. Please note the triggers. This story is dark and should be read as a dark mafia story with a decent helping of romance. I'm excited for you readers to meet Sven and Rose. If you're a lover of the mafia genre, then you've hit the jackpot! I love how obsessive Sven is with his Rose....

Fantastic Mafia Story
This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last.

I loved the main characters in this book. Sven kidnaps Rose and takes her from her life and brings her into his dark and dirty world. Rose has secrets of her own but Sven is determined to break her and make her his. He has a plan to overthrow the boss and take over but the boss has a different plan to destroy another mafia family, a plan which includes another kidnapped girl, Lacey. The girls are fighting their feelings for the kidnappers and together they hatch a plan to escape. I did not realise that this book ended with a cliffhanger and I can only hope we don't have to wait too long for the next part.

I knew I was going to love Sven from the start. His alpha attitude was just a small part of what drew me into this story. Sven arrogantly believed that he was in control of every aspect of his life. That was until Rose walked through the door. She was the unexpected that he needed. Rose was guarded and hiding behind a secret past but even she could not deny the chemistry she shared with Sven. This book had all the elements of a good Mafia romance. There was almost a story within a story with Sven and Rose and the mob boss and Lacey that I was pulled in two ways. I wanted Sven and Rose but I was intrigued with Lacey and her story. The drama felt genuine and the romance was exciting. The ending left me with unanswered questions and I anxiously await the next installment.

This is a great story! I had a hard time putting this book down. It drew me in right away and kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. As bad as it sounds, I really liked Sven, even though he was manipulative and dark.
Sven Xander is a man who knows what he wants, and will do what it takes to get it. He is in the Mafia as a soldier, but he wants to move up. He knows that he has to plan things just right to get where he wants to be.
Rose Bellemore is a nurse working in a psychiatric hospital. She lives for her job. She has a dark past that she is running from and trying to avoid. Her patients give her the only joy in her life.
This is a dark romance story. There are a lot of people in this story that are dark and twisted, but the fact that the Boss and Sven have a soft side is great! They both find the one woman who can bring that side out in them. While these women seem to be doormats, in reality, they are very strong women and they stand up to these men. They may be scared to death while doing it, but they do it none the less. These women have been through a lot but they are still compassionate and kind. I give this story a 4.5 star review and I look forward to the next book in the series.

This book is amazing!!! It is dark, and brutal, and gut-wrenching, but it's so much more than just that.
I absolutely love dark romances and anything mafia, so naturally I've read a bunch of those types. This book is hands down one of the very best dark, mafia romances I've ever read. I especially loved how it wasn't just one couple, but actually two couples struggling with their emotions and how each of their lives played a role in the outcome of the entire story. I will say, it is not for everyone. It delves in a much darker theme than most books I've read. I did cringe a little bit with some parts but I feel like it was those moments that made such a necessary impact on the rest of the book. If you enjoy reading about very dark themes, and brutality isnt a deterrent to you, than I strongly recommend reading this book. It's the first book I've ever read by Bry Ann and I literally can't wait to read more of hers.

I give this novel a 4.75 rating. For me, it starts out a little slow, but once you get into the meat of the book, you literally cannot put it down. The action is dark and compelling, and Bry Ann brings the reader into the emotions and thoughts of the characters so intimately, you feel you've known them for years.

This book had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn't put it down! These are the types of books I like to read, Hot but still a good story with twists and turns, nothing grinds my gears more than a predictable book and this book was anything but. Can't wait for the next installment.

Fantastic book, with all the twists and turns you could ask for. If you love dark mafia romances I highly recommend you pick this one up, it is not one to be missed!

Brilliant and intense!!
Wow! I forget to breathe when I read Bry Ann's books and this is no exception! This was so intense it made me feel like I was actually on the emotional rollercoaster the characters were living and at times I felt myself being sucked into my Kindle. These characters came to life.....and what wonderful characters they are! I can't put it into any more words.....I'm a bit speechless right now! Straight on to book 2 for me......

Just finished Book 4 so this review is quite raw.
Rose. Sheltered , naive, hiding from her past, barely living in the present.
Sven. Underboss, complex, also hiding from his past, determined to take control.
Rose meets Sven, a patient where she works and he immediately gets under her skin.
Sven takes what he wants and he wants Rose.
You'd think this story was about Rose and Sven. But before you know it, Lacey and Boss swoop in and steal this story out from under them.
A Mafia boss, his Underboss and 2 women who have fallen into the Mafia world...what could go wrong?
Honestly, this story started as Rose and Sven's story. But it quickly shifted to Boss and Lacey's story. They were by far the stronger characters. They had depth, emotion, character. I've gotta say though, that every character went through growth and change, except IMO Rose. Other characters grew themselves but also through their relationships with others.
Great series! Unique! *Most* characters were great. Wasn't like anything I'd read before. There were a few holes to the story or like seeds planted that nothing ever eventuated...so that's confusing. But could be that these get addressed in other books about different characters from this universe.

This author is new to me and I am excited to say that I have found a new one-click author! This story was one I could not put down. I love mafia stories and dark on top of that. This story was amazing, well written, and full of action and passion. What I loved most about this story was the unique way the author took a typical trope and threw it on its side and gave a brilliant new rendition. It’s familiar, yet completely different!
This is the story of Sven’s rise in the mafia along with his love and passion for Rose.
Sven is a hard man, with a soft side for only Rose. He is quickly becomes obsessed (in the hot kind of way) to Rose and we as readers benefit from that! I loved reading about Sven as he had an interesting personality. I loved his grit and determination and his plans for his future. He is working his way up the mafia chain in the most brilliant and strategic way. I found him endlessly fascinating.
Rose tries to deny her passion and lust for Sven but quickly learns it is a losing battle. Why fight it when she could be experiencing passion all the time! I thought she was the perfect balance for Sven and loved her reactions to him.
Though this book is labeled a romance I would place in as a mafia read first and a romance second. Yes, there is plenty of passion; but the darkness of the mafia and Sven’s rising within it felt to me the dominate plot of this story. I received and ARC and am leaving an honest review and I am now off to read book 2, Roses and Thorns: Women.

This is a new to me author and I really didn't know what to expect going in except for the fact I love mafia romance and had to give this a go and see where it took me. I was a tad disappointed overall and believe it could have been so much better.
I believe the book has been edited since I got my copy but for me it didn't flow properly and felt as though it was stop start, however as I say it's been edited since and I don't know if all the grammar has been fixed.
The execution itself for me could have been done so much better because overall this story is good and has so much potential but it needed more mafia action in it as most of it was just about the characters and the back story kind of disappeared. I did get confused at times because there are 4 points of view being told and we ended up with the story being about not just one but 2 couples so I'm not sure who was supposed to take lead in the book but it kinda worked in a way and I think that's what made it different from other books out there.

The ROSES & THORNS Series is one of my new favorites....It’s a dark story....And none of these couples have had easy lives, but Adam, Lacey, Sven and Rose have fought and scratched their way through life....and have maybe found love....❤️🌼🔥
Mob Underboss, Sven, meets Rose, a workaholic, mental hospital tech, when he manipulates the court system into accepting his plea of insanity, so, instead of prison, he can be placed in the mental facility where Rose practically lives....And once Sven, sees her, neither of their lives will ever be the same.......❤️🌼🔥
The relationship between Mob Boss, Adam and his prisoner, Lacey is the most interesting to me....Lacey’s life has been horrendous, and Adam has had a part in making her life so bad, but Lacey is a bada$$, and love blooms in weird situations, sometimes.....❤️🌼🔥

One star due to cliffhanger and had editing
I have stopped giving poor reviews as I don't think they help the author of a reader but I am so disappointed! This is a fantastic story that has in depth characters that can't be figured out. Get the editing is atrocious! If you skip the editing you are fine and I was at a 4 star review because of editing! But I do NOT read incomplete series and it ended with a cliffhanger! If you are going to have a cliffhanger then at least tell the reader this is book 1 of however many books! I feel kind of stepped on as the author does not respect my time! I will read the next book but won't be reading any other books by this author. I guess if I had read her in the past, I would have known there was another book!

I really enjoyed the story of this book. The bones of it are strong and i really got that dark, violent mafia feel.
Sven and Boss are both intriguing characters, bad boys that want to hide their lighter sides but find their obsessions keep on drawing it out of them.
What i didnt like was the style of writing. Its just too basic for me, very blocky with no real sense of emotion flowing from the words. Ive never read anything by this author before and honestly, I'm not sure i could venture in again.

What i didnt like was the style of writing. Its just too basic for me, very blocky with no real sense of emotion flowing from the words. Ive never read anything by this author before and honestly, I'm not sure i could venture in again.

Bry Ann is a new author to me. After reading her Shattered duet, I knew I had to read more of her. This first book to the Roses and Thorns series did not disappoint. The book begins focusing on the characters Sven and Rose, but soon you discover the stronger characters of Adam and Lacey. I never thought I would find myself crying during a Mafia Dark Romance novel (my guilty pleasure), but the dichotomy of Lacey broke my heart. I don't think I have ever read a heroine who is so strong, but so fragile at the same time. This new to me author is someone I will definitely continue to read.

I loved this book. It was really interesting.
Sven and Rose have such a « relationship » and I can’t even be sure it is right to call it that haha!
But being the underboss he has to keep his posture but she is his weakness.
I really enjoyed the side story with his Boss, and Lacey.
I am really looking forward for book 2 because I need to know what will happen to them!

Sad.
This book made me sad because it was interesting BUT the grammatical errors and the ridiculousness of the characters relationships was it’s down fall. I wanted to see what happened so I actually find myself forcing through with lots of eye rolling. If thought out and edited it, it had 5 star potential. Fell short of that however.

I don't know... Just reading the prologue made me not want to continue reading. I don't know if Sven's personality is what I don't like about book or the author's writing style for him. I stopped reading the book after a few chapters.

Easy read
Enjoyable. Story line bounces between 2 sets of couples. Could use proof reading I found myself trying to figure out what the author meant to say in more then a few sentences, but over all interesting book enough to keep my attention. Does end in cliffhanger.

I really liked this story. It's a mafia book, and I love those. While I feel the beginning of the book was slow, the middle and the end are where it's at. Once I got there I didnt want to stop and didnt want to put it down.
