With sharing the true light, there is always a cost.
Aura Scott didn’t want to move house, but her father didn’t give her a choice when he wanted an escape after the car accident that nearly killed them both. Trying to survive in a literal ghost town is never fun, but add in the neighbours from hell, well it’s becoming a nightmare. Maxx and his brother have dark secrets, and Aura might want to run when she finds out the truth. When two strangers move into Maxx’s house across the street, Aura finds out there is more than just secrets to be frightened of.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
While I thought this book was pretty good in the beginning, I was about a quarter of the way through when I realized something. This book was WAY too much like the "Lux" series by Jennifer L. Armentrout!!! Now, Bailey may have read the series and wanted to do something similar, but the story line is close to being the exact same. So unfortunately, I will not be continue to read the books after this one.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I think the storyline itself is fantastic. I struggled with the relationship aspect of the story. Aura seems like a good character. She is smart and knows exactly what she wants. But Maxx.. he was an asshole. I feel like is animosity towards Aura was a bit much. I understand the reason he tries to push her away but there is being an asshole and then theres being an asshole . I just think he kept leading Aura on and it annoyed me. Maxx just did absolutely nothing for me.
I enjoyed everything else about this book. I am so excited that this story is about aliens. I haven't read a good alien book/seres in forever! I am excited to see what Aura can do and what the heck is going on with the Darks and Aura's mom!! I need the next one!
I’ve read other books by this author and had this one on pre order, because who could resist that beautiful cover art! ( I love sci-fi).
I have to say though I was a little disappointed. I wasn’t feeling the chemistry and I really didn’t like Maxx. I know he’s meant to be a bit of an ass but without the steaming hot chemistry that’s all he is. I don’t know, I could go on about the plot but it’s the first book and there’s time to fill those plot holes. To sum up it lacked depth. World building, characters seemed a bit two dimensional....
There were things I liked, I love a bit of high school drama and mean girls are always fun to hate on. I’m just hoping the next ones better... and cheap otherwise I might just leave it there.
Great characters, hot guys, and aliens need I really say more? It starts with Ura in an accident where strange things happen which forces her to move to a new town with her dad once he is better. Things look normal at first with one nice neighbor boy and one arrogant jerk one. Then enter the alien part of the story and I was totally hooked though I was really getting into it before that. Great build up, wonderful characters, and a story that draws you in what more can you want? I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
One stunningly addictive and brilliant new series from the exceptional Ms. Bailey!! I loved this so hard! It's intriguing and fresh and the cliffhanger steals your breath away. I loved the conflict as to why the main characters cannot be together. It's heartbreaking and watching the emotions play out, just makes you so sad. This is filled with twists and betrayal. Nothing is at all what it seems to be. I'm thinking that I've just discovered one of my favorite couples ever. I feel like I waited for ages to finally be able to read this, I was so excited by the cover and blurb! This was better than I could have ever imagined!! I love that this is a non RH!! Ms. Bailey knows how to capture your heart and always delivers a story that stays locked within your memory 💖💖💖💖
Love the tension between these two but hate the reason that keeps them apart. The brother has to take one for the team so they can get some help and I hope they find away around that because will live a miserable life.
I'm a huge G. Bailey fan and she didn't disappoint me with this book either. lovely science fiction reverse harem. So I could use this again for bingo. hihihi
Great start. Really enjoyed this book. I have seen several references where this story is so much like the Lux series by JLA but i musy admit i can't see it. The only similarity is the fact they are aliens based on light.
I really recommend reading these books they are brilliant. Loved the world building, the characters.
I have also now read book 2 which was just as good if not better and full of action.
I am highly anticipating book3 which im waiting for release.
First thing I couldn't help but notice is the strong resemblance to the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout. Getting past that, a lot of the language seemed stilted and the conversations and rants not words that would flow from a person's mouth. I get the whole soulmate angle, but there wasnt much of a relationship built or even much time spent together before the big reveal and cliff hanger at the end, so it all seems very superficial. It was an ok read but I dont think I will continue the series.
Wow, wow, wow. What a fantastic YA/NA story about dark vs light, aliens, enemies, friendships and soulmates set in modern times. The characters are truely amazing and the main characters Aura/Ura and Maxx perfectly match the cover of the book. Once again G. Bailey has written an addictive story that you just won’t want to put down. I have a feeling that this going to be one of my favourite series, and hopefully everyone else’s as well.
I'm being generous by giving this book a middle-of-the-road rating because, to be honest, there wasn't much to this book. There were some things the author did right: Though I wasn't a fan of the present tense of the narrative, the writing flowed reasonably well and there were very few overt errors. I liked Landon and Aura, but the rest of the characters…? Not so much. The plot was interesting and the world-building was okay, but not fully filled out, but that's about all the praise I can give it.
Most of the characters were very one-dimensional and aggressively hot and cold. Landon was perhaps the only character that wasn't absolutely awful to Aura, and it is only through his reassurance that the other characters aren't usually jerks that we can assume they are anything but. Iris I can at least somewhat understand, and even Abby in a way…. But Maxx? Maxx was awful on all accounts. The author completely failed at making a decent love interest for the main character. When "they're soulmates" is the only reason two people have any attraction to one another, and otherwise can't seem to stand each other, it's a problem.
The writing itself was rather lackluster. I've read worse, but this came across as a first draft rather than something polished. It felt like the story was being rushed through, and there was very little time in which the main character, Aura, was allowed to just sit down and work through things in her life and have room to breathe and consider what was going on. That isn't bad in itself when there's important action going on or information being dealt out, but that wasn't the case here. Hardly anything was explained - it was mostly teenage angst.
The ending, by far was the worst part. It felt like the final scene came out of nowhere - just when the story was starting to get interesting, it was like a brick wall suddenly appeared. It was an absolute wreck, and it felt like the story was ending far too soon, and unsatisfyingly. Worse yet, the epilogue was complete trash. It should have been left out entirely, as it only served to wreck what few good questions were left in that last chapter. I truly wish it had been cut entirely.
Overall, I liked the premise of this story, but the execution was a train wreck. I had fun reading parts of it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I certainly wouldn't bother with any more books in the series. I am disappointed that more time wasn't spent really polishing this up, because it sorely needed a few more drafts.
The book starts with Aura getting in a horrific car accident with her father but only suffering minor injuries. Aura does have a few new physical traits from the crash though which make her not able to have a normal life 1)blue marks on her face and stomach from where her injuries were-that no one but her can see 2) Pink hair that turned itself and everyone can see that 3) a memory of a man saying that she's going to be ok. Her father is a bit worse off and they are forced to move to a new town once he is better. Once he is better he tells Aura that they are moving to a new house, he's got a job already lined up and she's been enrolled in the local school. Things look normal at first with the promise of a best friend in one brother,Landon, but a definite cold front with his brother Maxx. Little does she know that things are about to get a lot more interesting....
This book delivers a lot of promise. The main character is a strong female that speaks her mind and the a**hole factor of Maxx is brilliant. There is enough fire between the two to keep you wanting more. The characters develop throughout really well and the info/background on everything is really well filled in.
This was a quick read and leaves you wanting more for sure! I also just have to give a shout out to the design cover artist- AMAZING COVERS!! All in all a light, quick read that will hook you in from the first page.
I was afraid I wouldn’t like this as it’s the first book I’ve read from Gem that isn’t RH, but it’s not lacking anything and I honestly LOVED IT! Also note* nothing against books that aren’t RH I’ve just been on a RH kick as of late and traditional romances haven’t left me satisfied, but this one did! ;)
Honestly, this was a fun and really good read! I was interested from page one about Aura and her distraction! I was immediately hooked and needed to know what happened to Freckles and her family to get to where she was now. Not gonna lie, I love Maxx. He’s such a kinda douche, but also kinda great. The hot and cold thing is always a fun favorite of mine! Landon is the best friend every girl needs and I immediately loved him. Iris and Abby you’re want to hate from the beginning but then you realize “hell, I kinda really freaking love them”. The characters and world building is superb as it normally is with Gem’s books! She has never disappointed me with a read and I am so flipping excited to read book 2 because that cliffhanger had me flipping pages looking for more when there wasn’t any! Also, the twist will have you ready to punch someone in the boob! Ugh! So good! I highly recommend this read!
I actually really liked this book. My first alien book, which to be honest, will be my last.. just not ‘my cup of tea’. But thats besides the point!! This book is short, simple and interesting. It has the perfect amount of questions and answers, background info etc. It has characteristics similar to other books of the same genre: soulmates who shouldn’t love each other, fantasy/alien, high school, clueless main character who is supposedly super powerful and has highly sought after powers she doesn’t know about it. Meets her soulmate who has grown up with knowledge and has all the answers to her questions. They bicker and argue to hide their interest in eachother.. yada yada.
What makes it so perfect is that it is short (I finished this book in less than a hour), still manages to have the characteristics listed above, has an interesting plot that hooked me, had a huge cliffhanger.. etc.. I gave it 4/5 stars because this book could have been freaken awesome if it was full length, and while it was a great short book, like all short books, it is lacking in depth and detail. (not a RH)
Intriguing storyline surrounded by mystery, with supernatural aliens from another planet seeking refuge on Earth after a devastating war. The pace is sort of fast feeling, with things moving along quickly yet seamlessly. The story follows the life of the main female lead Aura and her new life in a new town after a horrid accident, living with her father Ross and learning the mysteries of her neighbors. Aura has had a great life and is ready to get back into the swing of her normal routine when startling epic revelations reveals that Aura is not who she thought. Maxx carries a burden from his past unable to make peace with it and being undoubted drawn and protective of his new neighbor and clan. The romance between the main characters is hauntingly sad, they are meant to have this soul deep connection yet they cannot touch one another without deadly consequences. Fun revelations are revealed throughout the book that are exciting and very intriguing, very interested to read the next book and find out more about this alien race and prophecy surrounding the true light.
As a first book in this series it was fantastic!! I loved the whole concept it's new and refreshing. Ura is an amazing MC with just the right amount of sarcasm to make me love her. Maxx is the typical Bad Boy Jerk.... Or so you think. I have a love/hate relationship with the circumstances that surround Ura and Maxx's HEA. I hope we get some type of resolution into finding a way around their predicament in book 2.
I absolutely love the Light Clan!! Yes even Iris lol Its great to get a little insight into the supporting characters right away in book 1 so you can understand a little of their story. I can't wait to get more Landon soon, he's the perfect BFF. The ending had me on the edge of my seat but I felt was a little rushed as well. It was action packed, heartbreaking, and OMG moments and then BAM cliff hanger lol so I'm impatiently waiting for Maxx, Ura, and the light clans story to continue!
True Light was a great introduction to G. Bailey's new series From the Stars. It follows Aura, a seventeen year old girl whose life is about to change forever.
While I really enjoyed this book, I didn't get as into it as I usually do with G. Bailey's stories. I am a huge fan of everything she writes, but I think I was a little disappointed with this one because I've been on a rh kick and haven't really been into more traditional romance stories recently.
But overall Ura's story so far is amazing. I love the plot and the concept of different types of aliens and how they are surviving on earth. I also really like the characters. Maxx is a little too much of an as*hole for the most part, but I do enjoy his interactions with Ura.
And oh boy, that epilogue left me reeling. So much happens so quick in the later part of this book, and I can't wait to read more of Ura's story in the next book in this series.
Once again G. Bailey has come up with an entertaining read that kept me riveted from page one. I am not really into alien stories, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Our female lead, is strong and I connected with her from the beginning. Aura, who I will affectionately call Freckles. Our male lead, Maxx is such a jerk, but he does have his moments. I must admit I really like the ones that you love to hate, and he does fit that bill. His brother Landon was such a good secondary character. He is good for the storyline, and a good friend for Aura. I see maybe a spinoff with that whole situation maybe?!!! Also Gem does a really good job here of having the mean girls turn out likable. The storyline of how they are fated to be together but cant, is well written and flows at the right pace. Overall a great start to a new series, which I think may just become my favorite series from her.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*** This book was alright, but the genre is just not my cup of tea. I have a hard time reading about Aliens, but if you like Alien inspired books, then this is right up your alley. I didn't feel the chemistry between Aura and Max which made me more disappointment. However, not every wants the unrealistic instant connection and if that is you, then give this book a try. I am hoping to see more growth between Aura and Max in the next book in the series. I have read other books from this author and even joined the review team which is why I read this book. I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise, but that is just because I wouldn't have chosen to read this book to begin with. Its just not my style of genre. The writing is wonderful and I love the creativity that comes to life in this world.
Even though I DNF this book, I am rating it a 3 as the concept is decent and I normally love this author. But alas.... yeah, I Did not finish this book. Got to Chapter 19, laughed my head off and put it down. It was just too much of a Rom Com (like silly teenage kind the MC enjoys) for me to get into it. Oh, there are aliens and the dark side, along with the light side and 'true light' - but it was all just a bit too much, with explanations thrown out there more for us than the MC, who really needed to know what was going on. I loved her spunk and the way she threw down with both the mean girl and the unfortunate mean guy (he's also the MMC), but come on.... she was also a bit TOO accepting of certain things. I've got questions...but they aren't pressing enough to finish this book. Maybe it gets better the farther you go along? Perhaps.
This first book was okay, not good, but not so bad. It almost had the same plotline as Lux Series by Jennifer L Armtrount. Alien made of light and dark. So original on that, but what it had was a twisted with Aura, main female lead. Maxx was boring as hell to me. Aura was interesting, but almost a lovesick fool. She had no backbone at all. Landon was a good character, but we didn't see him that much at all.
It needed to be longer. Where was the world building and more information? Why did the dark and light aliens hate each other before, or was it just after the accident? No normal guy issue was also not in here. Nope, it was Austin; another alien.
Overall, this book was over before it got good. If you are looking for a small version of Lux Series, this is the right one to get.
I’m a little hesitant about reading this book. True Light reminds me of the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout. With the moving part, neighbor being an asshole, being friends with the sister(or in this case, the brother of the said asshole), the light thing(pretty different from each other, but still, the light or whatever) and the neighbors being an ALIEN. There’s still some similarities that I didn’t mention, but since I really love G Bailey and her books, I’ve threw out all my concern and just start reading it. And she didn’t disappoint me. I really enjoyed the book from chapter 1 to epilogue. I may have reservations while reading it(and I still do), it will not change my liking of this book. I really love this and can’t wait for book 2!
This author is not a very good writer but at least creates some interesting stories. This is the first of a new series about a teenage girl named Aura, weirdly nicknamed Ura, who moves to a new town after a horrible car wreck leaves her with some strange new characteristics. When she meets her new neighbors she’s surprised to realize one if the guys is her rescuer from the car wreck, but he denies it and spends his time being a jerk. When some new arrivals to town show up he is forced to confess that Aura his soulmate but they can never be together because they will kill each other. There are some similarities here to Jennifer L Armentrout’s Lux series but had enough of its own spin to keep me skimming through.
Lux spoilers ? I can't understand it . I read so much books that are similar yet different somehow but this hot mentally confused guy who doesn't know if he want to kiss her or kill her with his brother/sister that is somehow kind and cute ? (Neighbors) not to mention the perfect mean hot girlfriend from the same RACE ? I struggled so hard with the first chapters . I honestly was waiting for a Katy or daemon to somehow pops out you know ? I hope the second book will have good different twists cause well , a secret government agency experiencing on aliens made of light won't help at all ... I don't know if it's coincidence or not but I hope for better The cover is beautiful ... Recommend for people who didn't read lux series
If you want to read this book because of that beautiful cover and blurb... I would strongly advise you not to.
It's a fast read but that leaves you asking: 'Why did I read this till the very end?!'
From hot-cold lead that I wanted to punch to her falling in love with him in just a few days to a week and her feeling all those deep feelings. gosh You just don't do this fast-paced romance where she feels deep feelings about him but doesn't really know much about him... just "feels". It is a supernatural book but it still didn't bring their romance the right way.
Landon, he was the only positive and I would die for his story... even if it wouldn't be written as I want it to be.
Cover is beautiful but book I wouldn't recommend to anyone!
I have a tendency (seems especially with YA novels) to relate a story with another book; I couldn't help doing it here *but* I thought the plot was unique enough as is. The story paces quite quickly, almost too much, which was my reason for giving it a 4 instead of a 5.
I auto-purchased the second book as this was exciting enough to want to know what happens. All the characters are likable, not just the main h and H; this is probably where I wish there was 'more'. If we had more conversation/interactions to fill the time leading up to a certain event, for this case, it wouldn't be 'filler'. I know some books seem to fluff up the pages with overabundant details and descriptions, but that wouldn't be the case here.
Wow 😮 This book 📖 was brilliant from start to finish I was hooked , it kept me entertained , engrossed in the story line , with each chapter getting better .😊Ura has no idea what she is or what is I store when she moves to her new home 🏠 after a traumatic car 🚗 crash ... the book 📖 is awesome 😎 it is full of everything you need in a good book 📖 confusion , laughter , anger , frustration , and love 💕 that can’t be ....it’s also has the evil guys that you want to slap 👋 round the head with a stinky fish 🐟 overall a great read another great 👍 book 📖 wrote by the amazing author G L Bailey love this book 📖 look forward to book 📖 2 Dark Soul 😊😍
