What's Inside You is a true life description of the activities in a poetry workshop held in a senior center. It is written by the therapist who conducted the sessions.
He made many beautiful comments about the substance of a poetry workshop and its beneficial qualities. One of the stories that I found to be the most touching was the account of a pair of women who could not get along. They competed with a debate and seeming competition as to the right to be the greatest victim. Through writing, they were able to come to a point where they agreed to disagree. More importantly, they were able to feel empathy for the other and get past their individual bitterness.
The writer shared the spiritual basis for his work. He listed such eclectic sources as Buddhist, Hasidic and Native American mysticism.
The book was fascinating for me because I have an interest in poetry and in self-help.
