Hanna Hamilton

123 books127 followers
Hanna Hamilton has been fascinated with the Regency era ever since she was a young teen, first discovering historical romance novels by famous authors such as Jane Austen and Lisa Kleypas. She believes that love was just so much more magical back then, more like a fairy tale. She always daydreamed about finding love herself that way, but since that is impossible in the twenty-first century, she decided to write about it instead!

Born in Texas, Hanna Hamilton obtained a degree in Creative Writing and has worked as a literature teacher before becoming a novelist. When she isn’t writing, Hanna likes to explore the countryside with her husband and two children, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her.

So, come on a journey into love, confusion, and redemption all within the Regency era. Hanna hopes that you will enjoy immersing yourself into her novels and that you too will find a love for old-fashioned romance, just as she has.

A collection of 3 stories with all 3 including distressing circumstances for the heroine, and great effort and/or ingenuity on the part of the hero to bring about circumstances conducive to marriage for them. I will review each book separately.

THE LADY AND THE DUKE:

LYDIA, a vicar’s daughter, forced by her family’s financial situation to live with an Aunt, meets the Duke of Shropshire. Both are interested in plants, planting, planning gardens. A working relationship turns into love. Unfortunately, the financial situation of the Duke takes a turn for the worse, making his Mother the Duchess push for an alliance with a wealthy neighbor’s daughter. Reluctantly, the Duke goes along with Mother’s wishes. Lydia leaves for LONDON to escape the wedding. However, true love wins out, and the Duke comes to London to ask her to marry him.
Sweet, clean story that pulls you in, and concern for Lydia and the Duke keeps your tension to see how the story will resolve the issue.
(Of the 3 stories, this is my favorite.)

DUKE OF MY HEART:

Iris Warwick lost her mother at 13 and her father at 19. Her 2 older sisters had married and her father wanted her to be cared for, so arranged prior to his death for her to marry a man she had never met. She heard he was unpleasant, and thus had no desire to meet or marry him. Her maid, Daisy, suggested they switch places and she would be obnoxious and he would abandon the plan to marry her. Unfortunately Daisy DID like the man, did want to marry him. So the switch became permanent. Iris left to join a relative in another home as a companion to Amy, the Lord’s sister. She continues the charade, although the relative Victoria knows she is not Daisy. Iris is happy in the household.
When the brother returns home, he and Iris realize that they had met previously, at the ball when Iris first switched places with Daisy. They grow to have feelings for each other, although Iris has not yet told Ewen, the Lord, the truth about the switch. When she does confess, he is terribly upset. He goes away, forms a plan, and returns to tell Iris how to keep everyone happy: they would leave England and start life afresh in America. Thus, Daisy can keep her upper class husband and lifestyle, her sisters know the truth and agree to say nothing to disturb the situation, and Iris & Ewen can then marry.

This clean, sweet story has a good storyline, the Lady and the maid switch places and then have to deal with the results. They both end up with husbands they love. The heroine Iris grows from a pampered, depressed child to a self confident young woman after switching places and finding herself with a job and purpose in life. The story is a little unbelievable at times (the Lord dancing with the maid and falling in love with her with one dance!); it just happens that the household where Iris takes a job as Daisy, just happens to be the Lord’s home; Iris’s 2 sisters happen to agree with the switch to allow Daisy to continue on posing as Iris; and everyone forgetting about the large dowery that should have come to Iris’s husband instead of Daisy’s husband.
The story accomplishes it’s goal in gaining the reader’s attention to the end.

ANNABELLE ENCHANTS THE REJECTED EARL:
I enjoyed the story of Annabelle and Floyd, the heroine and hero of the story. This is a story of an arranged engagement by the father of an independent-minded daughter and a Lord Ashton who is not as he seems on the surface. Meanwhile, Annabelle falls in love with a stable boy, Floyd. As the wedding approaches, Annabelle’s mother comes to believe her and gives her funds to run away with Floyd. Of course, her father finds Annabelle, and returns her home, whereupon marriage plans resume. The father’s eyes are finally opened to the truth about Lord Ashton, and he allows Annabelle to leave to make a life for herself. Of course, Floyd is no longer working at the estate, and Annabelle must truly start a life for herself. Eventually, Floyd finds Annabelle and she sets aside her life once again to begin life with Floyd. WHO is the rejected earl? Read this delightful romance and find out!
This is a clean book, with a happy ending. It maintained my interest all the way through.

The Lady and the Duke: A sweet Regency romance, this book is an enjoyable story. When Lydia finds herself thrust out of her home because of debt, her life begins to evolve in a new and interesting dimension. As her aunt's housekeeper, she begins to discover new friends but when the Duke of Shropshire takes note of her and her interest in horticulture, her life takes a new turn. The Duke dispenses with formalities and insists that Lydia call him by his first name. When she begins to fall in love with him, Lydia realises that it is a pipe dream as he has a heritage to uphold and duties to perform. The book depicts English country living and the ebb and flow of life in a rural setting.
The Duke of my Heart: A sweet romance, this story has all the elements of a good romance. It has a good plot and as the story evolves, the complications from the decision made to switch identities, begin to surface. Iris was in a dark place of her own making but Daisy understands her better than anyone. When she is presented with the news that her father has chosen a husband for her, Iris goes into an all out panic. What started out being a prank becomes reality and before she knows it, Iris is in a strange place with new people and a life for which she has no prior experience. I enjoyed Ewan in his role of hero and could feel for him when the deception is exposed. Iris was a young lady who began to grow up once the shackles of money and family were shaken off.
Annabelle Enchants the Rejected Earl: When Annabelle’s autocratic and stubborn father demands that she marry a business associate, she is horrified as the man turns her stomach. When the opportunity arises Annabelle escapes her home with the stable boy, whom she has strong feelings for. The outline of this story had potential but after reading other books by this author, I was sadly disappointed in this novel. The flow of language was stilted and the heroine of the story came across as immature. The development of the story between Annabelle and Floyd was also sadly lacking.
Although a Regency box set, the plots and language used did not always follow the rules for the era, giving it a more modern feel. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I was gifted an ARC of this collection from the author. Here are my impressions of the three books contained within the group.
The Lady and the Duke
3 stars
Although well-written, the pacing of this story was a bit slow. There seemed to be too many details that ended up not being particularly relevant. It was an enjoyable story, but in my opinion, it could have benefited from some pruning. I will say that the last line of this story was probably my favorite!

Duke of My Heart
4 stars
I'm not sure where the bones of this story originated, but I thoroughly enjoyed this historical fiction romance version of The Prince and the Pauper. The characters were likable (with the exception of those who were not meant to be) and relatable. It was a sweet story with a satisfying HEA. My only complaint was the punctuation, particularly the overuse of commas when periods or semicolons would have been more appropriate.

4 stars
Again, this was a good story, and it was well- told, but there was something about the omniscient third -person POV that bugged me. It felt as if the narrator spent too much time explaining what different characters were thinking, except when it mattered! I wanted to know what was going on with Floyd, but that was when the narrator decided just to follow Annabelle. The suspense was pulling me in all different directions. I really did not know what was going to happen next! I think this may have been my favorite story in this collection because I loved the characterization of Annabelle - a strong, courageous, and passionate woman.

The Lady and The Duke
This is dramatic and sort of sad. Poor Lydia, every time she thinks that maybe she found a man that she could marry, someone else comes along and takes him. But there's only one man she wants, and he's off limits. Edwin is a great guy in the beginning, he's kind, unpretentious and fun. Then his momma puts her foot down. So no matter how much he wants to marry Lydia, she won't let him. The mothers and aunt are cold and selfish, all of the men are sweet and charming.

The Duke of My Heart
This is an entertaining and amusing story. It's sweet, romantic and enjoyable. Iris is very shy, awkward and brave. Ewan is quiet, determined, charming and engaging. I love the storyline, but the writing could have been better. So it's worth adding to your TBR list, the storyline is that intriguing.

Annabelle Enchants The Rejected Earl
This is full of drama and angst. Annabelle is rebellious, independent and naive.
Floyd is ambitious and stubborn. The story is dramatic and intriguing, but not exciting. Annabelle has more guts and bravery than Floyd. But she is the only character that has any spark. It definitely has some interesting characters in it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

"Chronicles of a Duchess" by Hanna Hamilton
Box set: 'The Lady and the Duke' 'The Duke of My Heart' 'Annabelle Enchants the Rejected Earl'
I liked these stories. For me two of the stories seemed slow. I kept trying to speed them up, just a bit, and maybe that is because I have been ill and maybe I am not fully recovered as yet. All three stories are fun, sweet, clean, romance stories filled with drama. I think if you like sweet clean romance stories you will like this box set. I was gifted a free copy of this box set by the author for my honest review. This is my honest review. note: There were places where I feel good proofreading would greatly improve the stories, thus the 3-stars rather than 4-stars.

Disappointing

I chose this book because I had read other of Hamilton’s novels and liked them. But these three novels are a travesty of the Regency genre. Anachronistic language, poor grasp of the historical context e.g. earls did not work in banks and the aristocracy did not engage in trade without social opprobrium. Cardboard characters are burdened with stilted dialogue and the proof reading is appalling. I can only assume that these are very early efforts but I am be,used that the volume has a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating. Again, it would appear readers understand even less than the author T this stage of her career. I rarely write really negative reviews, but I ended up nay skimming huge chunks because the writing was so bad.

I just love regency stories and this box set did not disappoint. I love strong heroins and characters.
The stories have a lot of chemistry between the main characters and lots of romance.
They are very well written and the author has done her homework before writing. She has examined the background for the stories very well.
The storylines flows so well through the stories that you just have to read on to the end. The characters are so well described that you almost feel you are with them in the stories. I cannot wait to read what comes next.

I can only recommend this box set if you like a romances with a twist.

Three Darling and Sweet Regency Romances

It’s like ready three different Regency era fairytales. A Vicar’s daughter has to take a position helping her elderly aunt, who is a companion to the mother of the handsome duke in The Lady And The Duke. In The Duke Of My Heart, a high born lady swaps places with a maid in order to escape a marriage she doesn’t want, but finds herself falling for a duke. And in Annabelle Enchants The Rejected Earl, a high born lady is promised to a cad of a Lord, but falls in love with the stable boy. Can true love conquer all of these obstacles? Read on, Regency Lover!

Here are three stories from Hanna Hamilton that I enjoyed from beginning to end. They are well written with wonderful characters. Finding true love is not easy for any of the couples meant for each other, but they are able to overcome all obstacles, no matter how long it takes. I would recommend this box set to anyone who enjoys clean, wholesome Regency romances. Besides great stories, you receive an added bonus: an Extended Epilogue for each story. I really like the Extended Epilogues because you find out how and what the couples are doing a few years after the end of the story. I received an advance reader copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

I was disappointed to be very frank. The writing, especially of dialogue between characters, was stilted and reminded me of kids learning how to write in full sentences. Storylines over the books were too similar so one book almost blended into the next. Characters were less than believable as were most of the plots. I found myself skipping many pages just to get to find something that appealed.
Having said all of that I am one to give chances so purchased another book by this author which is really quite good, great flow, believable to a greater extent and I find myself reading every page.
Let's see how this one goes.

Nonsense

I had high hopes for this collection - supposedly historically accurate, not a bodice ripper (clean sounds too prissy to me), and with strong female leads. Instead I got behavior that would be entirely unacceptable in the Regency world and dippy male characters, plus no plot to speak of. It was “clean” which is the best I could say about it. It was also tedious with much more silly conversation than necessary to move the story along. The author needs to study the Regency period much more closely, and take a writing class on plot development.

Three wonderful stories in this box set. Each book shows some of the differences between the upper and lower classes in Regency England. The characters all have different obstacles and hardships to overcome before getting their HEA. Each book has elements of friendship, betrayal, drama and finally romance with some twists and turns along the way. I enjoyed this box set very much.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This 3 book regency set was an excellent read. The heroines were substantial, intelligent and with minds of their own. They were all looking for their Prince Charming and Happily Ever Afters. They all had to go thru a challenging time in order to achieve their dreams. My favorite was book #1 followed by book #3. Book #2 was a bit far-fetched...premise was good but went a bit too far. However, I enjoyed each story and look forward to reading more of Hanna Hamilton!

Each of the three books are standalones and clean romances. A fun and interesting read. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.

Very disappointed

The first story was alright. But, the second story was too outrageous to be believable. The third story was better than the second but none of the stories felt true to the period for the most part. The phrases, “freaked out, Wow, etc” would not have been used. Just not a good read for historical romance lovers, IMO.

I had a hard time getting to this page. For the most part 'Chronicals Of a Duchess' was quite sweet and a very enjoyable read. In the last book of the series, I thought it got a little bogged down with too much detail when I was looking forward to the happy ending. I will continute to read your books in the future and look forward to the next one!! Sandy
