I've overcome the odds to claim my magic and the five men I'm not supposed to love. Then, just when I think we've finally found peace, our lives are turned upside down by a life-shattering threat.
If our enemies succeed, we'll be dead by tomorrow. But they've never fought Rose Hallowell before. Even I haven't discovered the limits of my powers yet. I just wish I could be sure that my magic will be enough. I can't summon it alone, and the more energy my consorts offer me, the more pain I could cause them.
Can I find new allies to help us win the day—or will we be betrayed all over again?
Eva Chase lives in Canada with her family. She loves stories both swoony and supernatural, and strong women and the men who appreciate them. You can visit her online at www.evachase.com.
This was an improvement over the second book, but I think the first is still my favorite!
Consort of Pain picks up with Rose and her guys in some sort of prison thanks to their capture by the magical witch police--my brain is blanking on wtf they call them, but it starts with an A and this is going to bother me until I remember. Things are looking quite dire for Rose and her guys, and while she is very powerful, she's not all powerful. Rose must figure something out quickly before time runs out.
My biggest gripe with this book was that Rose and her guys travel across the country--literally Washington state to New York--several times. Yet it doesn't feel like more than a week passes by in the entirety of this book. Commence squinty eyes, or ears in this case. Also they're hounded by magical attacks so the time frame of how long this book felt did not add up to how long it should've been.
Besides the multiple roadtrips/running around, we do finally learn about what Rose's dad and the other nefarious witches were planning and shit is wild. We also see Rose get in touch with her mother's side of the family and it was really awesome to see Rose get some of the support she should've had all along.
I enjoyed this one and was glad it had more action, hope this continues in book 4.
I know I say this with all of Eva’s series but I swear they get better with each book! I absolutely loved this one and loved that it didn’t end on a cliffhanger but I’m still dying to read the next one to see how it all ends! And can I just say I loved getting to meet Rose’s family from her Moms side! I loved her cousins and aunt! Can’t wait for book 4!!
It took me a while to get back to these books and I'm so ashamed of it too!
Eva Chase introduced me to reverse harem and I've been meaning to read more of the genre ever since. I've read the occasional book by another author, but I can't help but love Eva's writing most so far. No surprise that I'm going to read the fourth book of this series right after writing this review, right?
Anyway!
In this installment, we get back to Rose and her consorts trying to outsmart part of the witching community. Even though that part of the story kept me interested along the way, i can't help but find myself wanting more of Rose and her guys more? Sue me. Have to say that the focus was a bit less on the romance and heat this time around. I didn't really mind, but I did miss that.. spark.. somehow? A bit? Might've been me though. [Truly, my hormones are all over the place being 39 weeks pregnant and all..]
Let's just say that, if you're interested in reverse harem, you should definitely check out these books!
Book 3 is where we learn all the careful planning and scheming on the main character's part was for nothing! All the secrets they tried to keep are outted, and all the people they tried to take down are free. They spend most of the book on the run searching for more answers.
Honestly, I'm getting a tad bored with this series and I feel like it could have been a lot shorter, like 2 to 3 books max. It's a fairly fast-burn story so there's nothing to drag out in the relationship department. The story moves slowly between the beginning and the climax-to-cliffhanger of each book. I'm starting to tune out a lot of the plot while listening to it, which tells me that I would have gotten bored and dropped this series 2 books ago if I had been reading it.
Every Saturday I'm looking forward to the next Eva Chase book. I've been quickly catching up with her work and I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm making progress. This is the fourth complete series I'm reading. Maybe I should take a break at some point from the Chase books. But, I'm gonna determine that after the next book. Maybe there was another reason that this book didn't do what all the others so far did.
My biggest problem was with the plot and with how it didn't really give the characters the chance to truly shine. I'm usually not someone who is bothered by a lack of plot, but somehow in this case a lot of character traits didn't properly shine through because the book lacked a certain direction. The characters were mostly on the run and although their dynamic was still amazing, it seemed that a lot of what they did was based on luck and less on the intelligence I like so much in these characters.
One of the things that bothered me, was that they were acting without thinking when it came to escaping. I understand they wanted to get away from their cells, but it was also THE place to gather information, to learn how big this thing was, to see where the weak spots were. Although they were doing some things to gather that info, it felt like maybe they had run away so far a little too soon. But maybe that's just me. I just couldn't shake the feeling that the way they were getting their info wasn't very effective.
However, the ending and all the promises for the next books made up for a lot. Although we also had a lot of new questions, we also got to see a little how big all of this was and we saw a glimpse of what was going on. That peaked my interest. So, I hope that the next book will be more to my liking again. I most of all hope that we get some more scheming, plotting and planning again. That was the element I truly enjoyed in the first two books. The mystery, getting new pieces of the puzzle and characters trying to to outsmart each other.
I really enjoyed this book. The action picked up right where it left off. Rose and her consorts have been caught by the Assembly and they’re in for the fight of their lives. We find for sure her dad is involved and is part of a rogue faction of Assembly members and families who want to steal and control the magic of coming of age witches. The why kinda threw me but given the paranormal aspect of the story I shouldn’t have been surprised when her dad admits they cavort with demons. Any sane person knows, whether they watch Supernatural or not, you do not make deals or deal with demons, PERIOD. Her dad really didn’t go into detail so I’m curious to see what they get out of it and why they do this. Honestly I’m just sad her dad really did treat her like a lamb being led to slaughter just like Rose thinks. Then she finds out he probably was behind her mothers death and possibly even the stepmothers who may or may not have been as evil as I thought. It’s just sad because she’s only had good memories of him until now so it’s pretty heartbreaking. Rose really is powerful as she basically gets them out of every situation using magic and intellect. I found it a bit unbelievable and unrealistic. Perhaps it’s because we only see the results of her casting spells that takes away from the experience if that makes sense. In the end I’m glad for now they are able to at least return home and not be on the run nor does she have to stop using her magic. Plus she has her last and final consort bonded to her so they all need a little honeymoon time at the estat until they figure out a way to fight back. I’m glad she has reconnected with some family now and gained a cousin who is so willing to help. And with people showing up at the end for asylum I can’t wait to see what’s next.

The only reason this book got less stars than the first is because apart from the fact that there's so much running around that character development suffers, most of the interactions between Rose and her men is sex. This isn't meant to be Fifty Shades of Grey is it? Because I hated that waste of paper.
Still I'm totally here for smart female main characters and all her super yummy men.
Well this is my favorite one. I love the fact that she found her mothers family and they happily help her. They have beaten the Assembly and have gained the right to their freedom. Now they have to bring down the system to protect witches. Will they be able to do it?

I still think there should be more interpersonal issues, but clearly that’s never going to be the primary focus. The main plot moved in a new direction, which was good.
Note: I received and arc in exchange for an honest review and this doesn’t influence my opinion on it in anyway.
I love Eva Chase, she is such an amazing writer. Consort of Pain was an action-packed, fast-paced, amazingly witchy ride. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book and I am a little surprised with myself, at how much I like the steamy action as well.
Consort of Pain pretty much picks up right where the previous book, Consort of Thorns, left off. Rose and they guys are in trouble, the Assembly has them and it's not a pleasant situation all the way around because after they escape (it happens at the beginning so pardon the slight spoiler... but come on) Rose starts to become more of the badass-witch I thought she could be and keeps the Assembly on their toes. Now the gang has to stop the Assembly from coming after them and tearing them apart or worse.
Now on to the good stuff, I never thought I would be the person that likes the "super-hot/on-fire" type of sexy romances but apparently I do when they are supernatural/paranormal. I love the relationship between Rose and all her guys, as the story goes on I can see how she has different interactions with each of them how her relationship with each one is something special a different. I mean we are talking about five guys with very different personalities, thinking patterns and life-experience, which makes Rose's relationship with each one different but there is also a cohesive relationship between all of them that I like. The guys love Rose and want her to be happy but they grew-up with the other guys and see them as brothers (heck two of them are brothers) and they care about their well-being as well and if Rose makes them happy and they make her happy everyone is in general okay.
Consort of Pain is still a multiple pov and I get to see things from all the guys pov at one point and I am a sucker for it. I love seeing things from their angle, how they truly feel about the situation, how they feel about Rose and magic. I can't pick... this happens to me more often than not, there will be a love triangle and I can't pick (another reason for a reverse harem, you don't have to 😉). I like all the guys but two of them really stand out for me and I am not saying I'm choosing but I lean towards Gaberiel and Kyler more. Gabe is the strong, dependable, level head one, a leader while Ky has to research everything, tech savy (that could be so useful to me you don't even know) and is so excited about things that he is just adorable.
While Rose does have the guys around her she is actually really starting to come into her own in, after years of being controlled by her parents she is starting to make decisions not only for herself but for the others as well. Also with the Assembly chasing them more and more magic is being used and I loved getting to see Rose do some major magic to help protect herself and those that she loves.
Consort of Pain was a quick read that I just gobbled up. I mean with the action, magically duels, family secrets coming to light, the truth behind the madness that is the Assembly and what they are really up too, made this new adult quite enjoyable to read plus the magic and all the hot guys don't hurt. I am so excited for the next book, Consort of Fire. I cannot even begin to guess what will happen next but I look forward to finding out.
I received an advance review copy from the author.
I know the book's already out, so this review isn't exactly 'in advance', but better late than never right? So we're back with Rose and her consorts for the third installment in the witch's consorts series as they continue to search for a way to unearth the injustice occurring in witching society. Eva Chase has once again delivered a well written and planned out book that excites, engages, and entertains the reader. There was less 'action' in terms of direct confrontation, but the whole book was charged with an urgent feeling as time started to run out.
We also got to meet some new characters, who I kind of liked more. Despite the limited time they were featured, they were each captivating in their own way. And the graphic content didn't drown out the story and was never included needlessly, which I always like. Everything about this book met my expectations in every way. And yet, something felt missing. I said this book was engaging, and it was, but there were times when it was kind of 'filler-y'. I'd start to drift and then two pages later I'd realise I had no idea what I'd just read. This didn't happen very often, but the fact that it happened is not something I'm used to experiencing when reading Eva Chase's books. Thankfully these times were few, and overall I am definitely looking forward to seeing what she has in store for her readers next.
I love the actual idea and plot outline- witches & magic exist but normal people have no clue. Only women in the witch bloodlines can make magic. After they’ve found their consort, before a certain age. There’s basically a witch government that watches over the witches. The MC finds proof that at one time, witches had more than one consort (intro to the reverse harem set up in the story).
I think it could’ve been paced a little better. It all felt so rushed, reintroduced to her BFFs from child/teen yrs and now they’re consorted. Make it months vs. days, maybe? And be a little more detailed.
I love the romance/erotic genre...when it has a great storyline. I want to be immersed into the story and find the romance hot. Lately, I’m not finding many authors who can write with that balance.....a book I’d read without the sex scenes, because the story/characters are that compelling. I guess I’ll keep searching.
This is the third book of the series and it is full of action and, well, sex. Lol. What else can you expect from a witch with four consists (plus one almost consort)? The witching community has an ugly hidden sect. A sect whose members don't see a problem with trapping witches into consort matches where the consort can force the witch into doing his bidding, and can cause her pain if she doesn't. A sect that has dark secrets that can't see the light of day.
Find out what happens as Rose and her boys try to stay ahead of the bad guys while they attempt to unravel the mystery of what the Witching Assembly is hiding, while trying not to die. Will they ever be able to live in peace and just enjoy their love? Not likely to happen any time soon.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Rose Hallowell has claimed her magic and has the 5 unsparked consorts she is not supposed to have and just hopes for a peaceful life. However everything is threatened by the Assembly – can Rose and her men escape them and find the kind of allies they need to have a safe, secure and peaceful future or will they forever be fighting? Can Rose find a balance of power where she doesn’t extract so much from her consorts that they become ill?
I loved this story - lots of twists, turns, excitement and drama. I liked the addition of more on the impact on her consorts and how they were coping with it. It was well written and everything was very clear and easy to read/understand. I could definitely feel their frustrations, despair and joy at different parts of the book. Definitely recommended.
The first two books were better than the third installment.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
A bit more has been revealed here as per the intentions Rose's family intended to see through, force her to bound herself to a concrete consort, who will manipulate her magic. Her consorts are very supportive throughout the obstacles they face and of course, we have Gabriel... I was surprised that there were demons involved and that most ruling families have played their part in the plot. Turns out our Rose is not the only one with a daunting family drama. As I read towards the end of the book, things really got me curious. In other words, the ending of this one has convinced me to continue reading the series. That and the fact that I hate not finishing something that I have started. I am still struggling a bit with the story though I have read other books by Eva Chase that I really enjoyed. Regardless, I hope that book four will be great.

Consort of Pain by Eva Chase is a reverse harem paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Aletha George and Tristan James. This is the third book in The Witch's Consorts series.
I absolutely love Eva's books! I am really enjoying the relationship growing between Rose, Kyler, Seth, Damon, Jin, and Gabriel. I can't wait to see how it will progress over the course of the series. I liked getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ended on another great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to jump into the next book in the series Consort of Fire.
Tristan and Aletha did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this series if you're looking for a paranormal romance, fantasy romance, or why choose romance.
Book: Consort of Pain Series: The Witch’s Consorts, Book 3 Author: Eva Chase Completed Series: Yes! Genre: Paranormal Romance Format: Audiobook
Storyline/Plot: The plot for this book was a little harder for me to get into. Time sped up and slowed down too fast. Many logistical things bothered me and therefore took away from the rest of the book. I normally love Eva Chase, so please look at my other reviews of her books. This one is still okay, it just felt a little jumbled.
Favorite Characters: I honestly don’t really have a favorite for this book. The guys kind of blend together and Rose was nice but not as intriguing as some of Eva’s other FMCs.
Spice: There is a decent amount of spice. Nothing is too graphic or too crazy for a reverse harem. It’s more on the sweet side than anything else. Same as the last book, but still holds true.
This series keeps getting better! This is the best book in this series so far.
This books starts where the previous book ended - with the Witching Assembly arresting Rose and her guys. There's not too much I can say without spoilers... What I can tell you is that I loved it, and was on the edge of my seat so-to-speak the whole book.
We see what happens with Rose and Gabe (as he's currently the only guy who isn't her consort); whether they may have some allies, and of course there are run-ins with the Assembly. I won't give away what happens, but it's an amazing book that I definitely recommend!
I love this series, it keeps me on the edge of my seat the whole time I'm reading. Book 3 starts off right where 2 left off, Rose and her consorts have been taken by the Assembly. Now Rose needs to figure out a way to escape and protect her guys at the same time. Also, she needs to figure out why they want her so bad. In this book, she reconnects with her mothers family, gets even closer with her guys, and even figures out all the secrecy to the Assembly.....well, mostly. Can she defeat them or will they end up losing this battle?
This was awesome and I hope there is more. I need more of Rose and the guys.
I don't know what it is about this author but I've read 8 of her books and 7 of those only got two stars from me and yet I keep reading them. It's like all her books could be epic but all of them are missing something. So far this series is intriguing, but at the same time very boring and predictable. It's pretty much just fighting and then sex to replenish the used magic. I can't get this picture of Rose calling a time out in the middle of a battle to screw one of her guys to replenish her magic. I'll continue reading the series just because I'm curious about the end, but I don't care about how the characters get there.
This started right at the end the second book when they’re captured and they’re taken to be interrogated all of them are separated in different rooms and then she uses her powers to make sure that they can’t break down their mental blocks, and then she imagines her self escaping from the room so she can in the escape and then they’re going on an escape to find people to help them I just didn’t even care anymore her +5 guys she’s about to make the other one her cons sore. The last guy will make number five I just I really didn’t care anymore. I got so bored this book decided if I will continue with the series or not and I couldn’t anymore. I made 58% in and I’m just not interested anymore.

Rose, her four consorts, Kyler, Damon, Seth, and Jin, along with Gabriel (her hopefully-soon-to-be fifth consort), have been captured by The Assembly, or at least the part of the Assembly that wants to control a witch's powers. They manage to escape and go on the run. Along the way, Rose finds unexpected allies and the fight continues against The Assembly for their right to be together as witch and consorts. Full of magic and fast paced action, with a great plot and exceptional characters, loved it! I received a complimentary copy and freely give my honest review.
The third installment of the Consort series picks up with great speed. Rose and her guys are on the run after escaping from the witching community and are trying to find allies to assist them. This book was my favorite of all of them so far. Rose's guys have to come together as a unit to protect her and themselves from those who want to use Rose's powers for their own gain. Along the way they develop new allies and friendships while faced with a new and even more powerful threat to not just the witching community but all of humanity. A great continuation of this story.
This one had a lot of great stuff in it! It was action packed and picks up just where the last book ended with Rose and her consorts in the custody of the Assembly. I can't say too much without spoilers, but I really enjoyed the new characters, especially Naomi, and the magical battles are pretty exciting. We finally get to learn just why the heck the Assembly was binding witches into those awful consortings, and I suspect we will get into that even more in the next book. Looking forward to the next one!
Great ending to the first half of this six-book series. It wasn't as cliffhangery as the first two, but still left plenty of room open for the next three books.
Rose and her guys are in a lot of trouble. I thought that the situations in this book were particularly tense and dire. Great conflict. I liked how Rose grows in her confidence, especially with her magic.
There were some really tight spots, and I like the way the characters had to navigate around so many obstacles. We just start to uncover what's going on in the witching world. It's fascinating!
Consort of Pain (The Witch’s Consorts Book 3) ~~ This book earns its title — both emotionally and physically. Rose faces devastating choices, and the cost of her powers becomes clearer than ever. There’s heartbreak, shocking revelations, and moments where the bond between her and her consorts is pushed to the breaking point. One scene in particular nearly broke me — no spoilers, but let’s just say it changes Rose forever. Gritty, emotional, and impossible to put down.
Wow .. Definitely Enjoyable!! Book 3 and Eva Chase successfully continues to capture the readers attention by weaving such strong, believable, likeable and definitely some evil characters into this gripping story. I couldn't put it down!! Rose and her consorts find themselves fighting for their lives, mixed with a whole lot of crazy .... Don’t hesitate, plunge with them into a realm of magic, intrigue, betrayal, deception and sooo much danger. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy
