Forbidden Hybrid

Rate this book
Maeve O’Neill, a cyber-security analyst, is shocked to wake up in a strange bed after a rare night out. She is horrified to discover twin punctures on her neck and claw marks on her hip, because such a combination is not just impossible – it is forbidden.

When she realises she is not alone, but surrounded by three first-responders; Bishop, a surly werewolf homicide detective; Gabriel, a gorgeous human paramedic; and Lucian, a charismatic vampire fireman, Maeve isn’t sure if she has been kidnapped or is living out her wildest fantasies. Unfortunately, the reality of becoming the first hybrid in existence is fraught with danger, and Maeve must work with the three best friends in order to track down the serial killers who changed her life forever.

As the four work side by side to expose a dark conspiracy, the immediate attraction between Maeve and her three saviours becomes a staggering connection. Long-denied desires surface and new foundations are laid, as an unshakeable bond forms, forging the four together for eternity.

I wanted to like this book, I always loved the Hybrid idea of the stealth and agility of Vampire and the speed and strength of a Ware-wolf. The pace of the book is very slow. By the end of the book I am not even sure what powers Vampires and Ware-wolves have. Even by the end the book left more questions then answers.

The book started off quite promisingly the world know supernatural creatures exist, and for the most part they live along side the population. Though they are called supernaturals their origins seems to by more science bases, but there is a lot missing in this book.

A very slow paced book, I mean just under half the book is the origin story told over and over again. The most redeeming quality of the book is the characters are very likable. I actually like the fact that Marve does take charge of the other when they will not make a decision. Actually the hybrid idea is pretty good as well, but executed not executed as well as it could have been. Also the book leaves many too many loose ends for me.

A surprisingly entertaining and engrossing read. And different. Definitely a bit different.

That is not to say it doesn't have its issues. Insta-love is a main plot point. It happens immediately and is cemented within about a week. There is no explanation given, though it is mentioned numerous times in general terms. It might just get chalked up to a generic mate/funky hormonal bond, but I really hope the emphasis on it indicates a logic fundamental to the plot we might learn later.

Despite that rather large issue, the story definitely kept my attention - once I set aside the extremely fast, in-your-face insta-love. There are heavy Urban Fantasy elements in this paranormal RH and a compelling, if not unique, mystery. And plenty of tension and suspense.

The romantic scenes were pretty hot n sexy (even if they happened pretty darn quick).

I loved how everyone actually talked to one another openly and honestly. Both in terms of their attraction and in terms of what is going on in their lives. That was very refreshing. No secret-keeping issues at all.

I'm still trying to decide whether I like the odd harem or if it squicks me out just a little. I haven't read a reverse harem where FMMM meant all four were equally in love with and attracted to one another. So that is certainly different. Jury's out until I read a bit more (hopefully there is to be more!)

I am also not sure if this is the start of a series, or if this was meant to be a standalone novel. There are certainly a lot of open-ended questions that seem like the start of a series with bigger issues to be explored. And unanswered questions as well.

If it is the start of a series, then the pacing here felt a little off to me. Things were all wrapped up rather quickly (especially in terms of the romantic RH elements - not much left there for 'build' in future books). Even with the overall plot, an awful lot was resolved in a relatively short book, though there remain plenty of other plot points for future installments.

I also thought there were plenty of humorous and laugh-out-loud moments in this book. I alternated between a big smile on my fave and biting my nails as I just *knew* something bad was coming. (Fortunately, stupidity was rarely much a part of those bad things a-comin'.)

Here's hoping it is a series, since I quite enjoyed this first installment.

83.0% "Uh...nope that is not the right word choice. "Woe to any..." maybe? Loathe is not right."

82.0% "Wow...I must be invested in these characters, because I can't recall being this on edge with a book in a while. The tension is killing me!"

80.0% "Sometimes this book is laugh-out-loud funny :)
She figured she could have been naked and wearing a hat made of sandwich meat on the main street and she wouldn’t have received the same shocked reaction as she did just then.
74.0% "No, bad bad idea! Because who knows who will get their hands on that blood sample! That's like waving a huge red flag and saying "Yoohoo, over here baddies, the hybrid is right over here. Come and get her!""

62.0% "A little heavy-handed..."
“None of these goons will even realise they’ve been compromised. You see, intelligence agencies work with program manufacturers to build backdoors without consumers being the wiser – this way Uncle Sam can keep an eye on everyone. 58.0% "Wow, that is the most ridiculously selfish way I have ever heard to tell someone they are back from the dead. Harsh!"

48.0% "Uh... when did that occur? I only read about some body rubbing and orgasms, along with biting and kissing. Don't recall any oral anything before they passed out. I am guessing this was something from an earlier draft, before either something was removed or rearranged. But that makes it a continuity issue now."

48.0% "Definitely Urban Fantasy here (along with paranormal RH)."

46.0% "Uh...exactly how is 6 hours enough time for the stench of putrefaction to occur on a body?!"

45.0% "Quite enjoying this so far! Jury's out on Maeve so far, though I think I will end up liking her. But I really like Gabe, Lucian and Bishop. They make nice foils for one another, and are all quite sexy. It will be interesting to see where the unrequited MMM attraction goes in this one though."

30.0% "Umm...anyone (Lucian or Maeve) going to her apartment is a terrible idea! If her body is missing and IA is already looking into it and/or if there is worry the murderers are still on the look-out, surely one or both would be watching her apartment to see if anyone goes there?!"

22.0% "POV issue. This should be Bishop's POV, but that line was from Sam's. Needs a cleanup."

21.0% "Gotta say... The chaotic confusion when Maeve awoke was funny at first. But now the bumbling is just getting irritating. I wish they would just clearly and concisely tell her what is going on."

18.0% "Oh, insta-love! How I [don't] love you!"
"They all figured Maeve had enough to worry about without processing three strangers being infatuated with her at first sight."
17.0% "LOL!"
And no matter how many condoms she threw at them, her bravado was slipping.

She tugged her borrowed t-shirt down her exposed thighs for the millionth time since she woke up, “You’re all tall guys, yet for some reason I’m wearing what has to be the shortest shirt in your collective wardrobes. Possibly the shortest shirt on the planet. What was wrong with the shirt I was wearing when I woke up the first time?”
14.0% "LOL!
Maeve wigged out, yanking the bedside table drawer open and flinging the contents at the trio of men at the door. Much to her consternation, a series of foil packets fluttered harmlessly to the floor between them, their shiny packaging catching the early-morning light. In her near-state of hysteria, the foil butterflies were simply further proof of some kind of interspecies-gangbang-plot.
9.0% ""ill-begotten youth" isn't right. Misbegotten maybe."

4.0% "Why do people do this? I would just hustle on and pretend I hadn't noticed anything. Because if some one IS there to do me harm, calling "Who's there?" isn't going to help anything, and is likely to just get them to act sooner."

2.0% "Totally awesome descriptions here :) So far, I like Maeve's snark."
The wolves were constantly sniffing her and she never knew if they were going to hump her leg or piss on her. As for the vamps, they always fanged-out whenever they got too close and she knew they only saw cheeseburger when they looked at her.

This was somewhere between a "meh" and an "OK"

The whole story took place over the period of 2 weeks...yes 271 pages for 2 weeks! That's some major insta-love right there. Everything was predictable and I found it really hard to get behind the characters. The whole thing felt robotic? -Just going through the motions. The only interesting relationship was the 3 guys and their suppressed attraction- which I wasn't expecting going into the story. I'll admit I thought it would be a Harem solely focused on her, which was a nice surprise to find it wasn't. (ok I acknowledge I just said it was predictable and then said I was surprised but the MMM relationship is inferred pretty early on so it was predictable from then on out)

Its written with all four characters POV something I usually like, however when it was one of the guys POV it was hard to remember who's head I was in Bishops, Gabriel or Lucien? The constant changing made it a bit confusing to read.
I just found myself not caring about the outcome of the story at all, 271 pages for the events of 2 weeks is a lot of filler and unnecessary drama.
As usual I expected more...do I need to lower my expectations of great writers?? I hope not

Fans of Montana Ash.."Paladin" this was not
In fact if she'd redo Paladin as a RH instead it'd be awesome (^_^)

Good hook, subpar main character

So, we are told Mauve is smart, independent, amazing, and strong...stronger then her love interests. Do we see that? No. She routinely just stays at home, the boys shelter her *out of love*, and she’s like totally chill with it. She tries to be * assertive*, you know because she’s strong, but she just blurts out easily debunked ideas and then caves to logic and sits at home. Not very smart if you ask me. She doesn’t really help, she has one act of leveraging her skills then contently goes back to being a shadow. She is left behind, as all female characters are by the men who supposed love, trust, and value their skill, and is rightly angry. Does she even speak to her men? Does she even establish any boundaries? Nope, let’s it slide. She then has another moment of * girl power* and she doesn’t even save the day in the end; there is such a bluster about her being a competent person who doesn’t need a man to save her but then is saved...by her men. Way to really show them, Mauve! She is routinely called woman, girl, told no like a child, and talked about without acknowledgment. She half heartedly calls the boys out but without any conviction. We’re sorta told she is a feminist and an equal partner to our boys but I didn’t believe it. She was easily silenced, not all the smart, and didn’t seem like a valued contributor in the mystery. She contributed once. Overall disappointing and I found myself skimming the long paragraphs- I figured none of her musings would actually help the plot along. And I was pretty correct. This book tried to hard to make our main character special and we are told she has “a bit too much feminism in her” (like, what?) but it all seemed forced, not really believable, and frankly a let down. Are these the strong, female characters we get these days? Just write a smart person, no need to try to point out her strengths and say “look, look she stood up for herself once!”. You wrote her to be special, but she didn’t really use her uniqueness in ways that seemed natural, valued, or helpful overall. Maybe try a steady building of confidence and skill instead of bursts of strength wrapped in demure behavior? I wanted to like this book and it’s not bad, just not great and felt forced.

Absolutely loved this collaboration. What a great story from two of my favourite authors. It had a little bit of both of their respective genres but with the same attitude thrown in.

The characters were entertaining and easily relatable. The plot was intriguing and kept me guessing. I’ve no doubt there will be another story with the way this one was tied up and although it’s set up for another story it does have an ending and not a major cliffhanger. Perfect for fans who don’t like that.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and I can’t wait for more by these two authors either separately or together.

Highly recommend!

Forbidden Hybrid - Montana Ash & T J Spade

Forbidden Hybrid was always going to be a stretch for me. I was convinced that I wasn’t into PNR or Reverse Harem genres but WOW, how wrong was I.

Ok, I’ll admit it, TJ Spade and Montana Ash are brilliant authors in their own right and I love their individual work but this story just blew me away. It was a hands down, read it from start to finish story full of intrigue, crazy hot men and one very feisty women who knows what she wants.

Maeve O’Neill is a cyber security expert and a bit of a reclusive human, but her Bff Violet, is the complete opposite, party girl kind of Vampire. One evening after a night at a club with Violet, Maeve is brutally attacked and murdered and so starts this incredible story, full of love, lust, werewolves and vampires.

Totally off the scale sexual heat, brilliantly crafted characters and a complex and well developed storyline make this a book I’ll definitely re-read many times until the next one comes out.
Can’t wait for more from Maeve, Bishop, Gabe and Lucien.

Maeve is a homebody semi reclusive computer hacker who tries to avoid supernaturals like the plague, they seem to be drawn to her much to her annoyance, after a rare night out with a friend her world changes beyond recognition

Full of action danger and excitement the writers tell a fantastic story. With three gorgeous guys, and a great storyline I did not want to put this down and thank the people who recommended this story to me, I found this to be such a great read and my only disappointment was that I finished the book!!

Too many exclamation marks. Not nearly enough spice. A truly contrived plot with absolutely bonkers leaps in logic to make it work. The majority of the dialogue made me cringe - like with my face, not just on the inside. The expo dumps via dialogue were awkward. It was all just a big NOPE for me. But not in an awful "i didn't like it so no one should because it's damaging" sort of way, so that's why it's 2 stars. 1 star is reserved for books that are actively harmful.

This is my first story by both authors and it won't be my last. I hope they do another co-write sometime.

3 First Responders. 3 hot men. Best friends living together. A human, A werewolf and a Vampire all feel a connection to a dead girl.

Maeve O’Neill is a cyber security expert and a bit of a reclusive human, but her Bff Violet, is the complete opposite, party girl kind of Vampire. One evening after a night at a club with Violet, Maeve is brutally attacked and murdered. She wakes up in three guy's appartment with both a vampire bite and werewolf scratches and no memory of it happening.

I was expecting more and was disappointed with the over all book.
The relationships between them when they were building it the romance scene seemed to be cut short and romance building between the guys definitely got gloss over.

I was expecting a great paranormal book about a hybrid. Instead, I got a love triangle between 3 dudes and a subpar paranormal romance with a woman tossed in. This book had so much potential, but it fell short.

Maeve is a hacker & a hybrid of wolf/vampire. I wanted erotic sex, murderous vamps, stealthy wolves. I got a pissed off wolf, a metrosexual vamp, and a human whelp. None of who I particularly liked, good thing I'm not Maeve.

The potential was there for a great backstory regarding the virus and the vaccine. I got snips and bites, but nothing satisfying my curiosity. And maybe like TWD you don't want to share that. So be it. Why did she turn into a Hybrid? Why didn't she die?

I skimmed a lot of this book because it just wasn't that good. I don't need smoke and magic to make it great. What I need is a strong female, a good plot, & plenty of action to keep the story moving. This was a 2 week period told in 271 days - really? *SIGH*

This book centered @ the sexuality and tension between the 3 males. Maeve was an afterthought. Even though she was the main character. She wasn't fierce or feisty. She hung back for her safety. I'm bitten and mauled and left for dead, I have these amazing powers, I'm out there fighting and trying to figure stuff out. Not hiding behind my computer screens looking for backdoors into companies. This is underground work, not straight up stuff from the government.

Ok first off I know that my big complaint about this book is going to sound absurd. Considering this book is about a werewolf/vampire hybrid. But all of you guys who are like me and read almost nothing but PNR will totally understand. Ok so my complaint is this book was so unbelievable!...lol I know, I know but I am telling you the charaters would sometimes react in ways that was just like "WTF." I was constantly thinking "Nobody would EVER do or say or react like that!" Ok yes PNR stories are full of completely adnormal thing. But if you want to actually pull it off and make it good. You have to have the characters act and react to all the craziness as realistically as possible or to me it just come off as ridiculous! I did really like the plot! It was interesting and seemed well thought out. But not the relationships. I mean supposedly they guys had spent more than 16yrs as best friends & room mates. But never even hinted at wanting anything else. She shows up and "Wham'O" their in love with her and each other as well. I mean it's hinted that it's been a long held secret but it didn't come off that way. And don't get me wrong I really enjoy the M/M/M aspect in my RH books. It was actually while searching for a book with that very thing that I got the recommendation for this book. But it just did not come cross as a real romantic attraction to me. It felt very out of left field to me. Which made it come acrossed as weird and uncomfortable. And the FMC in this book never reacted to anything in a way that I felt was appropriate or realistic. And because of that I found myself severely disliking her. I'm sorry I mean I know every author puts a lot of heart and hard work into their work. And it's definitely not anything I am equipped to do myself. So I completely applaud the author's efforts! But this particular book was just not for me. But maybe it was just me and I could not identify with the characters. We just could not agree on how one should act/react to the craziness. So I don't intend to continue with the series. And all I can say is proceed with caution.

This book was full of mystery, humor, lust, and hotness! Quite the combination! I immediately liked Maeve and each of the men. Maeve had a strong personality that drew me to her. The mean were each strong in their own rights but had a softness to them. This was the first book I've read that involved a hybrid cross between vampire and werewolf. I'm intrigued by both vampire and werewolf stories and couldn't help but be drawn to this book as well.

The book did start a bit slowly. However, I'm not really sure that could be prevented. I think maybe it was needed to tell all the background bits. It quickly picked up pace and became a book I found difficult to put down.

The romance - This book did involve some instalove which I'm not opposed to. I actually experienced some instalove with this book in the first "sex" scene. Oh my! The scene when Maeve first experiences her supe powers had to be one of THE HOTTEST "sex" scenes I've ever read! I use "sex" because there was no penetration. I will warn you that this book does involve multiple partners and voyeurism. They share each other. If that puts up a large red STOP sign in your vision, than this is probably not the book for you. Otherwise, give it a try.

This was my first book by both TJ Spade and Montana Ash. I will have to check out their other books.

Sweet but very YA - got boring quick though

I don’t usually give 3 stars to a book that is relatively okay, but I don’t usually give more than 3 for a book I just can’t get through.

The writing was difficult, and I don’t usually mind third person, but this just felt choppy. It was third person, but sometimes it was in one character’s perspective, and other times it was everyone’s…. I am no English major so I am finding the issues hard to explain, but it really read as someone at the start of their English major, trying to write a good concept but just need to build their skills to actually execute their idea into something others can enjoy. I was about to DNF several times, and once at the 65% mark I just couldn’t do it anymore - I skipped to the 80% mark and skim read to see what the ending was like… and I stand by it being a good concept but a rubbish read.

The characters fell kind of flat, and I didn’t feel like I got to really know any of them. The whole, “our love is what makes us strong and we can defeat all enemies” is very YA. The spice is not there - it is very vague and it just doesn’t work.

Overall 3/5, I wouldn’t recommend to any one unfortunately. I hate it too because I am trying to explore Australian authors and so far I am disappointed at so many.

Paranormal Reverse Harem Series

This book surprised me. It went a completely different way then I thought it was from reading the blurb. We have Maeve and her men Lucian, Bishop and Gabe. So what do you get when you mix a human paramedic, a werewolf officer and a fire fighter vampire.... total and utter hottness!
Maeve finds herself in a rough spot, I'm not going to elaborate because it's a big part of the story, but Gabe our paramedic is on the scene. He's instantly drawn to Maeve, and he doesn't know why. It leads him to do a questionable thing, where he brings her home where he lives with both Bishop and Lucian.
The overall connection not only between the guys and Maeve but between just the guys is amazing. I love everything about these characters and their personalities. There's a lot of great character building in this book and the story is catching from the first chapter.
Maeve becomes a hybrid of a sort as the title states, but has there ever been a hybrid? Maeve and the guys juggle murder cases and dealing with Maeve's new situation and abilities.
Montana Ash is an absolute amazing author and is always an instant buy, this is my first book by TJ Spade. Can't wait for the 2nd!

This was such a great story with a bit of everything - human, vampire, werewolf and of course the forbidden vampire/werewolf hybrid. Not to mention a cop, firefighter and paramedic.
I thought Maeve was a great character who handled herself really well when she finds she's somehow become a hybrid and had 3 hot guys wanting to help and protect her. I was relieved that she mainly made smart decisions and knew when to listen to reason and not just do what she wanted.
I really loved Lucien, Gabe and Bishop as individuals and their interactions with each other, and of course with Maeve.
Maeve also had such a great friendship with Violet.
So glad the authors have confirmed there will be more books in this series - can't wait!

What an interesting story, I found Forbidden Hybrid to be a good read.
I enjoyed the overall story and the characters, Maeve is a independent strong willed, smart and firey woman. Gabe is a caring and passionate guy. Bishop is all Alpha male and rather surley. Lucian is the fun loving guy who is always making jokes.
I found that the relationship between Maeve, Gabe, Bishop and Lucian felt a little rushed but at the same time it generally fit with the storyline, I think there could have been more world building.
I enjoyed the interesting concept of how the different types of supernaturals started and the concept of the hybrid.
I also really enjoyed the MM that happened in the story and that it didn’t just revolve aroung the MC, and that we also got the guys POV as well.

I bought this book ages ago, and just never got around to reading it. (It's now on KU, but it wasn't before) I don't know why I waited this long! I did go in not expecting much, but I seriously loved it.
Maeve wasn't amazing (for a computer genius hacker she takes an extraordinarily long time to decide to check the internet), but the way her relationships developed and the relationship of the guys around her were great. I did expect a joke about a fireman vampire which never happened, but there's always room in a sequel! *bats eyes and pleads pretty please*
The concept was great, and didn't get bogged down with over complicated explanations. It was all fairly simple plot and world wise, and it just worked.

It's strange to admit it, this being a book of a loved author, but I'm on the fence for this one.
It just felt slow, not much was happening except in the last few chapters and well, it left me feeling unfulfilled :(

I liked the characters, though I wish we knew more about them (their past, their hopes and dreams,...). I did like the dynamic between them all, with Maeve throwing in some extra spice into the mix ;)

The book itself was well written with only a few small errors here and there, but nothing that bothered me much. And yes, there is sex described in this book (did it just get really hot in here???).

All in all, I'm glad I finally read this book, as it was on my TBR list for a long long time, but I had hoped for more.

Hybrid love.

Supernatural. UF. Rh. 3 First Responders. A Human, Vampire, Werewolf. MMMF\ with some MMM. Snowflake hybrid heroine. A night on the town end with Maeve death. She wakes up in three guy's appartment with both a vampire bite and werewolf scratches and no memory of it happening. Finding her killer is top pripity for her and the guys. A little drawn out but it gives more time for you to get to know the characters. I'd like it to have a bit more Maeve POV than the guys. I love hybrid stories especially with governmental experimentation. Looking forward to the next in series.

Pure brilliance

I so hope that Forbidden Hybrid is the beginning of a new series.
I couldn’t put this book down.
The chemistry from the 4 main characters is instantaneous.
Marvel is living in a time where Paranormal beings are normal. She seems to attract them so has made certain she’s had a vaccine to stop being infected.
On a night out with her Vampire best friend things take a life changing turn for Maeve.
3 hot men. Best friends living together. A human. A werewolf and a Vampire all feel a connection to a dead girl.
Want to know more. Read this truly phenomenal book. You will not be disappointed.

Very Good!

Maeve was just a human until 1 night where she winds up being attacked & left got dead.

Gabriel, Lucian & Bishop have been friends living together for years but they’ve never let go of their feelings for each other.

That is until Gabe brought Maeve home from the morgue & she became the Forbidden Hybrid. As they are learning about what Maeve can & cannot do they are also learning about each other.

This book was very good in the good vs bad plot & the sex scenes.

Maeve is terrific! She is a loner, but she is also fierce and independent. After a crazy night, she finds herself turned into a hybrid - which shouldn’t be possible. Bishop, Gabe, and Lucian are great too, they are each unique and are trying to help Maeve figure out what happened. I like that while they are all attracted to each other and feel a connection, they get to know each other and don’t just jump into bed. I really hope these 2 authors write more together!

Amazing!! Loved it, the combination of Montana and T.J. appears seamless- well done ladies!!
Story is fabulous with a twist at the end but no cliffhanger, but plenty to build on if they wish to (and I hope they do!!). Very enjoyable RH, for only my second foray into the genre, I loved it :)

Just wow! What a brilliant book! Well supported premise and engaging characters suck you in within the first chapter! Loved every minute of it and lost sleep to finish it! But well worth it and I value my sleep! Lol! Congrats to the authors on a job well done and I will definitely buy anything else they write based on this book!

Such a great read 😎😍😘

I really enjoyed reading this book. I love the characters and the story is bloody awesome. Interesting, mysterious, captivating. The love in this story felt natural and while maeve was definitely the glue that brought them all together the guys friendship was a great foundation for the relationship. Can't wait to read more.

Loved this book

All I can say about this story is wow! Reverse Harem books can be written in a number of ways, ranging from poorly to excellently, this one rates at the top end of the scale. I fell for all the characters and I hope this is the beginning of an on going series. Montana Ash and T. J. Spade have written a winner.

Oh my goodness I Loved this book. Maeve and Vi are awesome. Love Maeve's harem! Lucian is a favorite adored his humour. Gabe and Bishop are not and their all yummy. She's a very lucky girl! Questions are still left unanswered for me. I'm hoping there's going to be a book 2. I definitely recommend this book you will be hooked from the first page.
