This is something about self-exploration--something they don't teach in school. Something that's very hard to learn on your own. This is something about putting yourself first because it's okay to love yourself before anyone else. This is something about doing what's best for you, no matter what people say, because only you know what you deserve. This is something about being real, being real to who you are and accepting things as they come and change. This is something about your mistakes, about your flaws, and about how beautiful it is to get up and try again. This is something about being you, about using your voice when you're afraid. About building enough courage when you feel like standing up to something you don't believe in, something that's wrong. This is about you, and every day should be about you, and that's something you should always consider.
I adored Drake’s “Moon Theory”, so I had high hopes for this one as well. I found myself mildly disappointed and found that a good portion of the poetry in this book was kind of “meh”. There are some stand-out poems and this is a solid book of poetry, but I wasn’t entirely impressed and I found that some of it was repetitive at times.
“She dreamed in color and designed a world for herself where love was inevitable.”
I went thrifting today and happened to stumble upon a bookshelf with FREE books. This happened to be one of them. 😍 I feel so lucky! I also feel like I was meant to find this book. Some of these poems spoke deeply to my soul!
Self love is something we all need a little more of. I love how effortlessly that came across in this one. Though the feel was entirely different than beautiful chaos or black butterfly I still really enjoyed this one and have yet to be truly disappointed by anything Robert M. Drake has written.
I needed every word in this book. It was exactly what I was looking for. It provided strength and encouragement in a heartbreaking situation. I’ll come back to these poems over and over again!
