This is something about self-forgiveness--something they don't teach in school. Something that's very hard to learn on your own. This is something about putting yourself first because it's okay to love yourself before anyone else. This is something about doing what's best for you, no matter what people say, because only you know what you deserve. This is something about being real, being real to who you are and accepting things as they come and change. This is something about your mistakes, about your flaws, and about how beautiful it is to get up and try again. This is something about being you, about using your voice when you're afraid. About building enough courage when you feel like standing up to something you don't believe in, something that's wrong. This is about you, and every day should be about you, and that's something you should always consider.
I really enjoyed a lot of bits in this poetry. Some of it, I noted as things that ring really personally true. I appreciate it very much for what it was. However, as poetry goes, I couldn’t bring myself to rate it above three stars. Also, as shallow as it sounds, I really strongly dislike the cover art, and had to get past the impression it gave every time I picked up the book to read another poem.
This was the worst book of Drake’s that I’ve ever read. The amount of grammatical and spelling errors in this collection was atrocious and the “poetry” itself simply seemed like rambling and did not seem like actual poems. There were only a handful of poems that I actually liked, which was disappointing since I loved Drake’s initial “Moon Theory”. In addition, the cover art itself is weird and a bit creepy.
The more I read of Robert M. Drake's writing, the more I find it to be cheesy and very 2012, if that makes any sense to anyone else besides me. A lot of this book specifically were sayings or phrases that I could see as an Instagram caption in the 2010's - something I would've loved back then but now think are cheesy and cringe.
No fault to RMD - it's his vibe and a lot of people love it. It's just not my thing anymore.
imma keep it a buck fifty witchu, this really could've been a more interesting read if it was structured more like prose, the editing into shorter form poetry made it kinda tough to get through, and when the content itself is middle of the road, it makes the whole thing much slower and sluggish to digest in general.
For every 10-20 poems there was one really good one. The topics were very disjointed and very much about resolving past loves/relationships which was not apparent based on the trigger words present on the cover.
The good poems are very good and hence the three stars. Will likely not reread.
I definitely read through this book quickly. There were a couple poems that I did not connect with at all, but most of them provided me with some very encouraging words at just the right time.
Major spacing issues in a lot of the poems and that could have been intentional but it doesn't appear that way. This took away from the actual meaning of the poems and made it unenjoyable.
