Unlike the last few disasters of Mountain Man tails, 'Justice of the Mountain Man' is on a better track. The story is a very good one and tightly written. Again, there are needless flashbacks when the story could be fleshed out a bit more, not that it was needed. This is a great story, well written and worth reading....without flashbacks.

Entirely unlike the previous entry in the series, 'Heart of the Mountain Man', this is not like an excerpt from a previous novel. It has one of the more involved plots of the series to this point. Unlike most of the series, which usually involved Smoke stopping someone from "treeing" a town, this book seems to be going the easy route problems changes the trajectory of the story and the characters many times. It's one of the few in the series where you won't know how the story unfolds and ends within 20 pages.

Complaints again, as with the last few Mountain Man books are needless flashbacks, though the fewest of the last books, the title and the cover. The characters are many and well done, though are very similar to many other characters written in the ersies. The settings are lacking again, but better than other recent books.

Bottom line: I recommend this book: 6 out of 10 points.

SMOKE'S INNOCENCE

Smoke is accused of murder and will be transported to Fort Smith, Arkansas to stand trail before the infamous Judge Parker, aka "The Hanging Judge." This isn't good at all, because Smoke is innocent, he's been framed by a crooked gambler, whose mad at Smoke for throwing him off a train after he was caught cheating at cards. So now Smoke's friends and his wife are on their way to Fort Smith, where Sally Jensen will confront Judge Parker regarding Smoke. This adventure of Smoke's innocent and how is friends fight to find t h e real killer of the Durango Kid, who was back shoot and Smoke was blamed. Detective work is begins with evidence of the type of bullet that killed the Durango Kid. The Doctor's of the west sometimes acted as Coroner's of the town, these men wore many hats and had many responsibilities not just dealing with patching the busted-up, shoot to hell bodies brought to him. Smoke is a versatile man who doesn't play games, it's either black or white never any gray areas.
Read and you'll actually picture the Galveston Island off the the coast of Texas with its beautiful beaches of white sand..makes you want to visit Texas.

This time the trouble starts for Smoke when he is goated into a fight with a skunk who goes by the handle of the Durango Kid. The two go outside to fight when the kid is back shot and a witness tells the sheriff Smoke did it. From there this journey takes Smoke from accused murderer to hero to a promise by a US Marshall to hunt Smoke down and bring him before the judge.
I won't give anything major a way but will say you will again see just how much Sally loves her man.

False testimony.

Another great story with Smoke Jensen and his good friends. To know that a person is not guilty of a crime.

I agree with previous reviewers, the flashbacks repeated material I had already read, as I have been reading the series in order. I did notice, however, that sometimes the flashback in question related details from a different persons point of view , which was interesting fill in. It did seem like a lot of it, though, and I noticed that this practice began about 4 books ago.

The Story moved to slow and reminisced too much. It was kind of like the author was shy on details for this book and just filled in with past events.

Very good western series. The story of Smoke Jensen, trained by the last of the mountain men as a boy. If you like men's adventure and westerns then you will enjoy the series. Recommended
