This brilliant commentary on the Heruka Sadhana (spiritual practice) is exceptionally well-written for Western readers, in a clear, concise and accurate translation. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso integrates a masterful comprehension of the ancient Tibetan Trantric tradition, with a keen awareness of the need to make its comprehension accessible to Western minds and culture.
This book focuses extensively on the primary (generation) statge of tantric practice, by helping the practitioner transform mundane appearances and ordinary, faulty perceptions into pure awareness and clear sight.
This book can serve as a general education for all students of the Dharma, but is specifically geared to those who have received the Heruka Empowerment and oral transmission of the teachings. Without this, the sadhana would have little effect.
For me, it was not a matter of choosing Heruka, but of Heruka seeming to choose me, and so I look forward to receiving the Empowerment one day soon, to be able to add this powerful sadhana to my daily practice, so that I might practice for aeons in Heruka's Pure Land, on behalf of all sentient beings.
