Winter is in full force. Freezing temperatures and heavy snow present new threats. But there’s more to surviving than just weathering the elements.
Out alone, James spots a man he recognizes from the compound. Does it mean they’re being hunted down? Or is it mere coincidence?
Max knows his group is a target. There are people who want them dead merely for revenge. Others want their radios, their guns, and their supplies. He thought they were hidden, but he should have known better.
John and Cynthia were hoping that Max’s group would give them the security they’ve been craving. Now, with certain danger approaching, do they make a final stand with their new group? Or do they strike out on their own through the treacherous conditions?
Fighting Rough is book 5 of The EMP, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller series. It deals with real people fighting for their survival every inch of the way.
I enjoy reading EMP survival books, as I think the possibility of this happening for real is plausible. I enjoyed the first two books of this series. By about the middle of the third book I started feeling restless, with the same storyline being so repetitive. I read the fourth book, which left me feeling bored, I only read the fifth book because I hate not finishing series books. I read it as fast as I could, doing a lot of skimming over content that had been overdone previously. I hoped for closure. But it looks like the author was setting up another book in this series. If so, I won't be reading it. If not, it was the worst ending of a book series I ever read. In my opinion, this should have been edited down to three books at the most. As soon as you establish your characters and their connections, you need to be more careful about telling the same stories over and over, just changing the names. By the time I got thru the last two books I no longer cared about what happened to any of the characters....just wanted it to be over. Now this has been a fairly long review, and I could have expressed my opinion with only a few words. So, if you find this review too long and drawn out, you have a good idea of the problem with this series. I would not recommend this for anyone. There are better books on this subject out there.
Max is definitely my hero! I'm glad his brother John and Cynthia are with his group now. Georgia is healing up good and her two teenage kids are having to learn survival techniques fast thanks to all the crazy people out there. There are some real sickos in this world and every kind of sick torture out there is at risk of confrontation. Some people are so clueless though, they won't even pick up a weapon because they believe in the goodness of the heart and of nature. The book really shows how foolish these people are as they are killed because they didn't listen. All the characters are brilliantly created and believable. The story is an adventurous thriller because death is around every corner. The fight for survival relies on working together. There is no saviour, only rational thinking and trying to out think the craziest scenario possibly imagined. I look forward to reading the next book.
Book 5 did not disappoint. It's a good fast fun exciting read.
The series continues to really engage the reader. Knowing that any of the main characters comparison any time makes it more thrilling in page turning. The length of the books are more of novella in size but it really doesn't distract as the stories keep it good fast pace and break at logical sometimes Cliff hanging times. It's rare for an author to be able to write a story like this logically to where you're not questioning why the main character would do something... And for the most part the author gets that right in this, allowing the characters to have self-realization when they know they've screwed up or allowing for the character to have the built-in flaw. It's a good series fast-paced at times thrilling and fun to read!
Oops, he did it again! Leaving us with a “WHAT!” feeling. Max is reunite sidnf his brother, John, and the tension between them shows their unresolved issues that initially led them to not speaking for 10 years. Georgia is slowly recovering, but not able to help with the latest battle the survivors have to deal with. A surprise shows up, and it’s not a good one. Looking forward to the next chapters in this exciting series! I recommend this book to everyone. Maybe, just maybe they can open your eyes to the possibility of things going bottoms up!
WOW...RYNN WESTFIELD DID IT AGAIN - WHAT A GREAT BOOK!
Book 5 "FIGHTING ROUGH" in the Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (The EMP) is a very great read. It's continues to tell the story of a group of people that have banned together to survive the worst that mankind can do to each other, surviving the hardships of living off the land, and all while doing the best that you can while making sure that your family and friends, as well as yourself, live to see another day. I really enjoyed this as well as the previous 4 books and hope you do too.
Another really good book from this gifted author. I am really enjoying this series, the characters in it, and the action. This one doesn't disappoint either. If you like snowy woods and the basic instinct for human survival, you'll like this good read. I thought there was too much reflection and introspection for my taste. It is a good novel by a talented wordcrafter and I recommend it to all.
The whole crew is together and fighting for their lives during one the worst blizzards and the coldest night they ever encountered. They fight off not only the men from the compound but also a crazed serial killer. My criticism is this book needed better proof reading. There are too many misspellings. This is unusual for this author. The story keeps the interest so we will see what book six has to add to the plot.
There are two things I really love about this book: a lot of Post Apocalyptic books have well prepared people peppered with the less prepared, well this plot is pretty much the opposite so it felt very relatable to, the next was the sibling dynamic - it doesn't matter how old you get you still see them as "big brother/little brother". I highly recommend this whole series.
Okay. How many times do we have to hear keep your eyes peeled? Expand your vocabulary. Will Max ever get over his gimp leg? Was that Kiki? How slow does Georgia heal? I need to swear off series. Why is so much badness coming from good people? Only the strong survive? Please. Remember Dale? Oh well, not bad...had too skimmed through the torture parts. On to book 6 This series better not end like CLOVERFIELD. Where did the emp come from?
The author certainly knows how to write! This book, like the previous ones in this series, is full of intrigue, adventure, post apocalypse situation and difficult to put down!
Good consistent characters and well thought out! Now, I have to wait for the next book.
I get that EMP taking out the US is the latest thing to write about. What I don't get is people just going amok New York City has millions of people but days after an EMP streets are empty? Very few vehicles run so they go where? Nuclear bomb makes sense the people are dead but EMP these stories rely to much on TEOTWAWKI mentality and not enough realism!
Story flow was jerky. Was tough to tell where I was in the timeline. Would spend a chapter or two on backstory only to kill the character off in the next chapter. Wasted time. Finally, thought the dog was lost and out of the story only to turn up and be shot dead...to what purpose? Confusing...
Wow! Full action and danger! Our survivors still fighting to live, danger in enemy hands, men trying to steal their food, guns and lives. Innocent and naive people are preyed upon. This one tells more of the evil and desperate men. More brutal than prior. But want to know how they end
So many enemies in this post apocalypse. Max and his followers continue to struggle for food, shelter and other necessities. I think it only said end of series. There must be another book.
With more improbable events than before. The same main characters we've become attached to, but the story is becoming full of highly unlikely events and characters.
I really enjoy this writer. His stories have everything to keep my attention. His characters are believable and the action persists. This series is so good it makes me want it to keep going. I am looking forward to the next ones...???
Enough violence to fill multiple lives, and enough loose ends. The dog's life and explanation were left hanging in #4 and in this as well. Editing errors. This book seemed limited to one major battle instead of a varierty of events.
Waste of time. This guy must be writing on a home computer for his high school creative writing class and doesn't hold a candle to Rawles work, or any other reputable author in this genre for that matter.
Such brutality. It's one thing after another. It's extremely suspenseful, nail biting my so. So much devastation, so much evil. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. Happy reading!
Forced myself through 5 books always hoping. Just a bunch of stupid people making the same mistakes over and over and the repeating! And why bring the dog back to only have it killed? Better to have had it stay lost. Just added to the unnecessary
Loved it! The action kept my head on a swivel - I never knew where the next danger would come from. Will John, Max and crew survive? And who was the voice on the radio? I can't wait to find out.
