An opportunity for some adventure comes along when Trenton enters the Annual Tests to gain entry into the Mage's Guild Academy. But, nothing is ever as simple as it seems. When the dark and mysterious Red Man enters the picture, things get very interesting indeed. Will Fayne and her friends find the adventure the so desperately seek? Will they find greatness along the way? Or better yet, will they become LEGENDARY?

An intriguing beginning!
A refreshingly easy read, bursting with intrigue, conflict, and achingly-deep worldbuilding. I particularly like the diverse and interesting cast of main characters - yes, I include Swift in that list!
Don't be surprised by the 'early' ending, this book does tell a very interesting self-contained story, but it's clear that most of the payoff will be in the later books.
This is a refreshing return to the old days of high fantasy. If you want up get lost in another world, this is the book you're looking for!

Loved the characters and the overall authors voice in each chapter. Really puts you in a sense of disbelief at times with its detailed world building. I’m glad there’s other books in the series because readers need more of this amazing ride!
I would highly recommend not only this book, but the whole series. I also got the inside scoop that the author is currently working on other awesome projects too!

This is the best book I've read in over a decade. Really gets your imagination going, your thirst for conquest, and desire for answers. I'm so glad this series has more books because it absolutely left me wanting more. I can't wait to dive into the next book to see what adventure awaits Fayne, Trenton, and Bex. If you like fantasy, magic, kingdoms, conquests, or adventure, look no further.

I may be a little biased, but I love this story so much. It has something for everyone. It is fun, fantasy adventure with heart. Check it out. Highly recommended.

Minor Spoilers
I really liked this book. I thought the beginning setup was a bit slow to get through, but once I had the layout of the world down, I was able to get into the storyline and the characters.
Fayne seems like she’s headstrong and will go for what she wants. I appreciate how she is written and am excited to see her in the midst of adventure in the next book. Trenton is awesome, he seems very supportive of Fayne and he’s just such a cool character. His mage test scene got me so excited, it was awesome to read! Bex is great too, she’s growing on me as the girl who’s always there to back up her friends.
I could go on about the characters I liked but I want to hurry up and read the second one already. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and literally bought the second one the day I finished the first.
