My goal was clear—to achieve success in every aspect of my life. It seemed easy enough for a while…until I woke up with a stranger staring at me from my roommate’s bed. Grey. The distraction I didn’t count on. The wrench that came crashing into my agenda. He’s one tall, lean, tattooed bad boy with the natural talent to annoy me. I was determined to ignore him, but there’s something about him that lures me in. The more I fight it, the stronger it becomes—the need to be close to him. But I’ve worked too hard to be where I am today, and I won’t let it all be ruined by a guy who is more trouble than not. There’s just one problem. Grey has his dark eyes set on someone… …and that someone is me.
Allison White is a writer spending most of her days creating stories when most people are asleep. She has always been a lover of stories, especially romance. From the very first word she typed, she knew writing was her passion and never stopped. And when she isn’t creating stories that tend to break and mend reader’s hearts, she’s either listening to music or getting way too involved with fictional characters.
This was book 1 in the "Spectrum Series" this was also a new author too me. This book was too long too drawn out and boring at times. Liv is an 18 year old college student who was very naïve and I also found her annoying. Gray almost seemed like he had some emotional problems. Both of these characters are haunted by their pasts the best way they know how. I also found that I don't read a lot of YA so I found myself getting frustrated with both characters with all the back and fourth they were doing. I liked the idea of this book I just felt that it could have been done in a shorter time with a lot less of the overly emotions that these two had going on. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
3.5 Stars Grey: The Encounter by Allison White is book One in the Spectrum Series. This is the story of Grey and Olivia "Liv". Olivia younger brother died in a car accident where she and her parents got out but he didn't and died. Olivia was a young child but has awful nightmares from it to this day. Her parents are very controlling and cold I thought. When she goes off to college she happens to meet Grey who is somewhat friends with her college roommate. Olivia goal is to stay focus on school and nothing else but Grey keeps blowing hot and cold with her. Grey is a man-whore at the college but for some reason he keeps coming around the innocent Olivia. Grey has a past hurt that we aren't aware of yet and he does have some mood issues. This book does end with a cliffhanger to set us up for the next book I have mix emotions rating this book. It was a book I couldn't put down and kept reading until the end but on that good note...I thought that there was to much coming together and then breaking up...they did that over though out the book. It was frustrating and I hope in the next one that they focus more on staying together and work out Grey's problems.

There’s just one problem. Grey has his dark eyes set on someone…
This book was frustrating at times. It was sad at times. It was a lot. This book has a lot of emotion in it. Both Olivia and Grey have pasts they want to forget. Both are working through their lives in a non-healthy way: Olivia is a people pleaser who studies non stop, Grey is fighting underground and going through women at a good rate.
Olivia has me to the point of wanting to smack her and ask her what in the world is she thinking. She has dove into college with both feet first and has no clue to what she is doing. She has no guidance from home and she is following the crowd. She allows Grey to enter her life and ruin a lot. He makes her cry so much. I just felt horrible for her at most points when she was in his company.
Grey, I don't even know where to begin, he is very selfish. He wants Olivia but also wants to do what he wants when he wants. He has no disregard to anyone but himself. We haven't gotten his complete story yet but I hope we do in the next book. He tortures Olivia. He seems to be a loner. Allison left me questioning a lot. Will they ever get along? Who is this girl that has been brought up and where is she? Where did Sam come from? Why doesn't Mason get along with Grey? Will Olivia grow a pair and finally be done with Grey? Will Grey take his medicine and allow people to help him? There is so much going on when this book ends.
¿Quizá me acostumbré?
I just finished the book, as in just an hour ago or so, and I can with all honesty say that I enjoyed the book very much. Allison’s writing, her characters and the conflicts within the book kept me sucked in and always wanting to turn the next page to read more. I lover how nearly every chapter ended with a cliffhanger, and if it didn’t, Allison still managed to keep me questioning the characters next move, next word and just…next next next! For being a young author, Allison has her way with words, she is talented and I can just feel her love for her characters, her book and writing shining through. And that is very special tool for an author, because a reader can easily feel that…if that makes sense?!
Anyways, moving on to the story itself. The plot, the story’s flow and the introduction of the characters was written so well. I found myself keep guessing the next possible event, sometimes I chuckled at funny jokes and parts, and I also found myself gasp in shook but also get angry. Allison really made a good job to awake emotions! Olivia and Grey are likable but so different from each other. Their relationship is complicated, sometimes messy but when they do have a lovely moment between them, they turn into the adorable couple that I highly ship for sure! However, sometimes I found it a little annoying how Olivia and Grey went back and forth but later in the story it was revealed to why things kept repeating itself. You understand more, especially Grey’s character although I enjoyed seeing Oliver at the end of book being…strong, not easy and really tried to think of herself in a heathy way.
And of course, the book ended with the want to find out what the flipping hell going to happen next! I can’t wait to read the next book!!
“ I do not on see the words in only black and white.” “ Yes you do. And I think, for your sake, you should discover the middle ground.” “ You mean... Grey?”
* I received an ARC for my honest review*
I honestly can’t describe the level of excitement and the amount of proud I feel for this girl and this amazing book! I first read this about half a year ago on wattpad and I was in love within the first 5 chapters. Allison truly has a way with words and an awesome imagination for creating these amazing characters.
I adored Olivia and it’s so clear how much she grows from being a good girl who studies so hard that she, literally, lands her ass in the hospital, always listening to her mother, no matter how selfish she is. And she grows into this self-respecting young woman who takes matter into her own hands and becomes a living young adult instead of a robot that her mother controls. And don’t get me started an Grey. My babe. My asshole. My idiot. He’s mine, and maybe Olivia.., but mostly mine. I am so proud of Allison to include mental illness in her stories. Grey is a bipolar asshole but he is such an sweetheart. And I can see myself in him, and Olivia lol, so much.
The only negative thing I thought of was how the book ended, it is a 2 part story so it had to end somewhere but I would have chosen a different place. Other than that. I loved it. I can’t wait for book two!!
This is one of the most frustrating books that I have ever read. I don't like the characters, their actions, or the unnecessary drama. The characters actions and the way that they talk to each other is so childish. I do realise that Liv is only 18 and has been sheltered, but she is naive to the point where it's annoying. She needs professional help. Grey clearly has a severe personality disorder. I've read stories where characters have been bipolar or schizophrenic, and they have never been more of a prick than this guy. He's absolutely infuriating, and his actions are unforgivable, regardless of his mental health. The plot has potential, that's what I find so frustrating. It seems like the author just wanted to infuse drama into every chapter to make sure that the reader didn't get bored. Ya know what though?! Constant drama gets really bloody boring. I would imagine that the entire series could have been condensed into one book if every stupid fight was taken out. It was really repetitive, and the conversations and arguments were repeated over and over again. I swear I have whiplash with the amount of times that Liv and Grey have changed their minds, only to change it back again 5 minutes later. Luckily I got this book for free, but I have to suffer book 2 as I bought it on sale and refuse to let the money I spent go to waste. Hopefully theres major character development.
I had a lot of mixed emotions while reading this story, and that's the mark of a talented author in my book, so Allison White definitely fits that bill in my eyes. First of all, I loved Olivia, although she frustrated me quite a bit, as I really wished she had put up with a lot less from the hero. Which brings me to my second point, and this is where my rage makes everything dicey with the hero. See, Grey still has me all kinds of pissed off to the point that I can't see straight, and even if I'm in the minority, I don't give a crap, because I want to hurt him seven different ways from Sunday for what he put my girl through. His selfishness was through the roof, and I can't even...yeah, Ms. White has me all kinds of jacked up because she transported me completely into her world. And frankly, it will take one hell of a miracle for me for me to ever come to a place where I love Grey at this point, so we shall see! But I will say this, Ms. White has intrigued me enough to see if she can pull off that miracle with the next book as I have many many questions left, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this emotional piece of goodness to ALL!
This story had me hooked from beginning to end. I didn't even have any books by Allison White but I am a fan. This is the story of Olivia aka Liv aka Princess. She is a freshman at Penn State and this is the first time away from home. We come to find out that Liv has issues because when she was ten her family was in a fatal accident and her brother Jonah died. Olivia's parents are professionals. Olivia's parents the Westerfields, the mother is a doctor and her father is a Judge. After the accident they seem to get more distant Back to Olivia and Grey and their relationship. Grey is nice and loving to her and then it's like a switch is turned on and he treats her really mean. Grey is in her Psychology class he likes to mess with her. I am not going to tell you their story but I will say it's worth reading. I enjoyed it so much so that I bought the set book 2-6. I can't wait to read some more of their story. Get: the Encounter now.
I choose this book for all the good reviews it has, i just think this isnt for me tho. I do love a bad boy hero, but i couldnt see Grey as a hero, apart from the times he saved her , he was just an a** h*le
Liv has a controlling mother, and a plan for every aspect of her life, she is naive and innocent. Grey has his own problems but what got me was the way he acted to her. One minute he treats her like the most precious thing, next she is just worse than a door mat. I got annoyed because for the most part of the book he was an idiot and she kept taking all his s*it, so it was always kind of like this: "hi princess.... You are crap and unworthy, she gets drunk, he saves her, they are good and the cycle starts again. Well like i said, this was an ok book but just not for me. Also it just ended without a proper final or a cliffhanger

Thoroughly enjoyed! What more can I say! Allison's writing is breath-taking, she has diverse characters which I praise and the chemistry between Olivia and Grey is just raw and authentic. For not one moment did I find it dull. All I can say is I 100% need Grey to knock on my front door.
Again I make another point on the diversity surrounding gender, mental health and the LGBTQ+ community. I praise the author! We need more of this!
Olivia--can be so damn relatable when it comes to studying, and she's just a loveable character altogether. Grey--he's like every bad boy that every teenager and young adult secretly yearns for. Their journey to romance couldn't have been more eventful! I loved it! If you're looking for a wonderful read then I recommend! Too bad for cliff-hangers! But make no worries, I'll be onto book two! After-all, it left me emotional! #oliviaandgreyforever
This is a new author for me, so I was not sure what to expect. This is the first book in a new series, and is Olivia and Grey’s story. Both of these characters are haunted by their pasts, and get on with their lives in the only way they know how. This is a well written good story, which is emotional, and I was intrigued throughout. As the ending is a cliffy, there are still many unanswered questions. The only down side in my opinion anyway, is that I felt the story was a tad disjointed in parts, and I found myself getting frustrated with these characters’ action, as I just felt like banging their heads together. However, I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
*ARC provided by the author* Grey: The Encounter by Allison White is book One in the Spectrum Series. This is the story of Grey and Olivia. It's about a girl named Olivia whose younger brother died in a car accident. Olivia was a young child but has awful nightmares from it to this day. When she goes off to college she happens to meet Grey who is somewhat friend. Ovila wants to just focus on school but when she met grey he shattered all of her plans. This book reminds me of the after series for some reason but I still love it even though I had mixed feelings about. I just really hope that the next book will work on some of Grey's problems and other things.
The first book in the Spectrum Series. At first I read the reviews as well as the summary of the story... but none of it has done this book justice. From the first moment they met I feel in love with Liv and Grey. Completely opposite people with two very different personalities. Ever since day one they seem to have nothing but issues however...
"Love isn’t always meant to be easy peasy. Otherwise, everyone would experience it without the true passion.”
There's no hiding it or denying it ever since they met there are sparks and they feel connected and grow even closer to each other, no matter who or what tried to push them apart.
The entire book series was very Young Adult focused but can be relatable to older adults as well. It spoke of real issues couple face together in relationships. People struggle with their mental health without acknowledging the problem all the time as well as getting into relationships with people who have these problems but don't know how to cope. The series, for me, was a great read and emersed me into that world for a while. Grey and Olivia came a long way towards the end and worked through so many problems that helped their character development.
This is a new writer to me. She definitely grabs your attention with a unique character who is dealing with alot. Then grabs you even more with a well written story line. This was gripping enjoyable with a little suspense. I am enjoying the relationship these two are trying to have. You can easily see they belong together but neither one can get past their past. Enjoyable from beginning to end. Can't wait to read more from this series.
Well written but went on for two long. Both characters have massive psychological flaws and their insecurities mean they are constantly hurting each other. 500 plus pages of this becomes soul-destroying for the readers as well as the characters, and there are six books in the series. I did become emotionally invested, though. I am being a bit harsh in giving it three stars but the loss of an extra is due to the frustration that the story will not achieve an ending for so long.
This book is so freaking good! Jaimie, and Julia are couple goals... Jaimie, and Liv are friendship goals... Grey can be sweet with Liv sometimes, but most of the time, he's so damn frustrating. I guess every good meets bad needs that frustrating bad boy, right? Even though he is so frustrating, the book is still perfection, perfection, perfection!
Based on the whole series 6 books, the series is a DNF for me, this is a story about a toxic couple who should not be with each other, bi polar disorder, I did go to the 6th book to see if it got any better and it did not. The story dragged, it just repeated the fights, I had high hopes for this story.
*Received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I did love this book. It was emotionally draining. This book was really good especially if both main characters had a bad past and love cliffhangers. This is the book for you! I don't want to give anything away.
Holy sh*t. I really loved this book. It was so intense I couldn't put it down. The characters are so believable, they just draw you in. You can feel their emotions, their pain. Can't wait for part 2.
Actually I read the whole series before reading this book so I had to go back to find out how this all began. Lots of questions cleared up after reading. Highly recommend reading them all.
Definitely an emotional rollercoaster. A lot of similarities to Anna Todd “After” series. A lot of leave me alone but I just can’t seem to be away from you. I’d say it’s a good read for someone who is into drama.
This is a very interesting and intense book. You have a beautiful girl who just started college and she meets a dark brooding boy who gets on her nerves. I do have to warn you that this is a cliffhanger.
2.5 stars I'm not sure I can continue onto the next book. This one was hard for me. I've never hated a guy as much as Grey. He's an ass with no redeeming qualities.
