I spent all night covered by a deranged coating of fear. The noise they made kept me trapped in a permanent and sadistically cruel panic. It was nothing compared to the fear I now feel. This fear cuts through me, grabs at my skin, and forces my heart to pump without mercy. A different sound. A different cry. My heart retaliates and pauses once again, desperate for its normal rhythm, and my imagination runs millions of images through my weakened mind. I'm suddenly writing possible futures … my future, my story … thousands of times. They all begin the same way, with the same opening words.
She heard a different cry …
I hold my breath. Unlike in the alleyway yesterday, time does pause for me now. I exist outside of the normal universe, trapped between one second and the next, as the new sound haunts me. Yes, that is the best way to express the feeling. The only way. I am haunted.
I don't know why the world changed, or what happened to everyone, but they are here now. The anger. My name is Shayla. I will survive. I will.
This is due an update … haha! I shall have that done by the end of this week, I promise. (11th, June, 21). I am still sooooooo busy with many new books, and rebranding old ones.

An intense, thriller novella that kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down (apart from when sleep beckoned). I wish it was longer. The opening reminds me of 28 Days Later, one of my favorite apocalypse movies.
I received a free e-copy through Goodreads giveaways - thank you.
This story is extremely intense but ended way too soon! I have no idea what is going on! Tell me there will be another book with answers coming soon!!!
A real apocalypic page turner. Shayla wakes up after being sick with the worst stomach bug ever, when she realizes that the other people have turned into growling, super-strong, night walking beings of rage triggered by the slightest sound. The "On My Way Home..." is Shayla's journey to her mother's house while trying to stay alive, quiet, sane and human. She meets one remaining normal human, an infant named Carter. Will Carter (being an infant) be her downfall, or her savoir? What created this Anger infection, does she already have it, can she avoid getting it? These are all questions that pop up and are answered in the book. Like I said...a page turner. Jason Ellis does a nice job here of telling us what is going on in Shayla's mind by letting us in on her imagined dialogue with old friends guiding her on what to do. He describes Carter's little nuances so well, I could visualize Carter completely. Until I got there I fretted about the ending. I'll only say that the ending was well done. Thank you Jason Ellis for the goodreads giveaway of your book.
Imagine waking up and the world has changed, everything's destroyed, no other human being is around and you have no idea what happened.
That's what happens to the protagonist Shayla. We follow her on her way home to her mother, hoping that her Mum will be alright, hoping to get answers to what happened to the world, and trying to stay sane while everyone she ever knew seems to be dead and nothing is like it was just a few days ago.
Is Shayla really the only human being left or are there others? And if so, where are they and have they changed? Has Shayla changed?
This is a post-apocalyptic story which was quite interesting to read. I went into it without knowing anything about it (it was a random pick on Kindle Unlimited) and it was a good read. However, I am not too sure if I liked the book or not. I definitely wanted to know what's going on and what happens to Shayla while at the same time not being able to connect to the main character. I just didn't like her.
The writing is well done and it was some kind of a page turner for me, but again there were too many passages that just weren't interesting or felt out of place. That being said, 3 stars is all I can give here (which isn't bad at all, just not perfect). I love reading new (for me) authors and Jason Ellis didn't disappoint, so if you are looking for an entertaining, short genre-mix, than maybe this one is for you. :)
This is the most boring apocalypse story I've ever read. Nothing notable happens, and there's really no reason for it to take her so long to get home. And that baby is way too happy.
I won this in a goodreads giveaway and really wasn't sure what it was going to be like. This book was intense from the onset... it was hard for me to read for very long; I just found it mentally exhausting. Don't take that as a negative. In fact, I wanted to pick it up every chance I got but generally managed 30 minutes at the most before I had to put it down. Not scary, not quite a thriller. In ways, parts of it reminded me of The Silence (the book, not the lousy movie), but this was on a whole new level of intensity.
I loved the book and found myself constantly thinking up how it was going to end, how it was going to twist... I'll not give that away.
*I won this book on a GoodReads (kindle edition) contest*
Going in, I truly thought I would like this story. Horror is one of my favorite genres and I love when I can feel the dread in a story. This one did not convey any feeling other than annoyance.
First off, the actual writing style drove me insane. I found too many instances of repetitive phrasing. Sometimes this even included the exact same words. The idea of having a chapter be one sentence long, much less back-to-back chapters, did nothing for the story. I understand varying chapter lengths, but one sentence is too short.
I also found most of the story to be formulaic. The main character moves around a bit, then something makes her think about a former friend. Then you are told about that friend, though it does nothing to add to the story.
There were several plot holes in the story. First off, it is insinuated that the anger is people who have been infected in some way. Some of the damage described, which has happened in less than a week, seems to be of a level that people could not have physically done.
Only one time does the main character find a body. What has happened to all of the other people in the world that have obviously been killed by the anger? If they have all become infected by the anger, than where are the infected during the day? The main character goes through too many different areas with only seeing one infected.
The baby in the story is much too quiet. If the main character could hear it cry early in the story, surely the anger would have heard it as well.
Another problem I had was that the main character worried that getting a glass of water from the tap would alert the anger to her presence, but had no qualms about knocking books onto the floor or dragging heavy furniture across the room. I would think these would cause more noise than the taps would.
Overall I rate this story between 2 and 3 stars. At times I was drawn into the story, but this would only be temporary. I don't know that I can recommend it to anyone, seeing as I had such a poor reaction to it.

It sounded so interesting and looked like it had potential for a great apocalypse story. Instead is was about a chick that woke up one day and the world has gone to shit. She is trying to get home to see her mom. She finds a baby in one of the neighboring houses and takes Carter along the way.
I love Zombies and apocalypse stories and movies. But this story rarely contained that. Instead I had to read about a chick that deals with stuff in her head. Family members and Friends she has imaginary conversations with. Also, we barley encounter the ANGER aka the monsters.
The writing was good but I guess I was hoping for a more action filled story. After reading some reviews by others, a few share the same views as me, others seem to love it. And I am glad they like it. Not everyone has the same taste. Some people love a slow burn, I am more of a go go go person.

I won this book on Goodreads (Kindle version) for an honest review.
This was a tough start for me, as this is a book not in my normal genre of reading. I had some trouble following along at first. Then suddenly it all seemed to click and the writing is intense and you feel yourself inside the story. The characters are well done and the scenery realistic. I wonder if there will be more to this story as it ended a bit abruptly and I get the feeling there should be more.
I won this book in a giveaway. This apocalyptic thriller sadly ended up not being very thrilling for me. I liked the premise of it, but after the first quarter of the book, it became quite flat and boring. In the Kindle Edition, there are also many spelling mistakes throughout the book. I would have given this story 1 star, but the first quarter of the book was action-packed, mysterious, and kept my attention. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this story a bit more if I finished it one sitting.
This book wasn't completely what I expected. I did need to get to the end to understand what was going on. However, I am not sure if I fully understand what occurred and why it occurred. I like how the author handled and explained the stages of fear that Shayla went through then how she was able to overcome her own anger.
