Bound for Temptation

Rate this book
From the author of Bound for Sin comes a new historical Western romance that tests life and love on the Oregon Trail.

Emma Palmer's been a lady of the night and a gambler, a thief and a blackmailer, a liar and a peddler of sin. But mostly a lady of the night. She's spent most of her life as the hard-as-nails, smart-talking 'Seline', working her way across the country to the goldfields of California, where she can finally ply her trade on her own terms. And she's a darn good Madam, if she does say so herself. Her place is clean, her booze is cheap, and her bedrooms are fancy. But when a would-be patron won't take no for an answer, she's forced to fight for her life and run. And what better disguise than as a nun?

Tom Slater is a taciturn cattleman at the tail end of a long, hard season on the trail. He plans to have a quiet winter at his old family homestead in Mexico. What he doesn't plan on is finding a foul-mouthed nun stranded in the middle of nowhere. She has sly green eyes and a way of looking at him that turns his head upside down. Tom doesn't need to be trailsman to know that this woman will only lead to trouble.

Tess LeSue takes you on another epic journey in Bound for Temptation, the third book in the Frontiers of the Heart series. Emma Palmer is finally free and ready to start her life over now that she has sold her establishment and giving up the life as a madam. If only one of her patrons would get the hint and leave her alone. In order to leave town, she disguises herself as a nun and gets help from Tom Slater to guide her and some friends to Mexico. It may be a long way to freedom but at this point she’s willing to leave her formal life behind. Tom Slater can’t believe the mess he’s in with his friend using his name to get out of trouble and now has a posse on HIS tail. Heading to Mexico himself, he agrees to guide the nuns there. No sooner they’re off and trouble ensues.

During these times and being out west, any travel would be hard and with trouble on their heels they had their work cut out for them. These two couldn’t catch a break. Things got so bad that Tom himself had to disguise himself as a woman to keep him alive! Neither Tom or Emma hadn’t expected is the attraction they would feel for one another during their journey. How can Tom be falling for a nun?! He battled internally to reconcile his feelings and keep them under control. Emma herself had inner turmoil with her past and how she wanted to be in charge of her own destiny from here on out. It wasn’t easy being a woman during this period and the author revealed so much through Emma how hard it could be. Your heart ached for Emma and her plight and cheered for her to get a happy ending for her and her friends.

The author created wonderful characters and brought them to life in this story and took me on the journey as well. The plot was full of twists and dangerous developments that kept me glued to my seat as it leapt from the pages. I loved how we met the previous couples from the previous books and caught up on their latest developments. Tess LeSue has brought the west to life in her latest tale and any historical romance fan will love to read and cherish.

This is the third book in the Frontiers of the Heart series. It isn't totally necessary to have read the previous two books in order to enjoy this one. I haven't read those books ... yet. I did feel like there was some back story involved that would have made this story more rewarding and deeper had I known it, but I don't feel like I suffered too much because of my lack of knowledge about the previous stories.

Westerns. I've never felt the desire to read them at all. I did read a couple of Louis L'amour books because my husband ADORES them. Seriously, he has an embarrassingly large collection of his books, and because I love him I promised to give his books a try. Not my favorite genre. So when I heard that this was a romance set in the wild west I was a bit wary and had pretty low expectations for my experience. I'm happy to say that this book ended up exceeding my expectations by a lot. I really enjoyed it.

This ended up being a slow burn romance. The plot demanded that it be so. Tom thinks that Emma is a nun. Emma really wants him to believe that. Because of this neither one of them can act on their attraction to one another. This allows the personalities of the main characters in the story to take center stage and be well developed. It was hard not to fall in love with Emma, a basically-retired prostitute and madam who has a tragic past, but who dreams of a more peaceful and relaxing future. Tom is a man who seems to be in perpetual doldrums because he is in love with his brother's wife. This was a point where it would have been helpful to know some of the backstory that was introduced in earlier books. I think it would have made Emma and Tom's life struggles feel a bit deeper and more poignant to the reader. But it is still okay to not know all that. I still felt their trials. Emma's character was delightful. I have no idea how Tom could have been fooled as long as he was about her role as a nun. She made a TERRIBLE nun. But she was compassionate and lively and witty, but she had a terrible habit of blasphemy and cursing at inopportune times. I loved her character so much. Her tragic history made me think about how unfair it is that we are so quick to judge people who end up as prostitutes. No one willingly decides to go down that path in life. The tragedies of life send them that way. Emma's story was so sad, and it is amazing that she overcomes her past as much as she does.

I loved Tom as well. I am pretty sure that I would have loved him more if I had seen his history in the previous books of the series. I did love how he cared for the women he was charged with protecting and his easy banter with Emma. I wish I could have seen more of him after he (FINALLY) comes to his senses at the end of the book, but it was still a wonderful ending.

I have to admit that I was thrown a bit by some of the "southern" language in the writing. I didn't feel like it was totally consistent throughout the book. It felt like the author threw in a "reckon" or an "ain't" or something like that at random times just to remind us that this was a western with a southern girl as its heroine. It felt forced, but maybe I feel this way because I am smack dab in the middle of "southern" country, and I'm used to hearing it spoken more often in real life situations. Still, having said that, I didn't mind that all that much. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this and how quickly I read through the story once I got into it. I give this one four stars. I really liked it, and I plan to check out the other books in the series.

2.5 stars

Bound for Temptation is the third book in Tess LeSue’s Frontiers of the Heart series, and while it is about three brothers, you could start here and not feel lost. But I would advise against that, as this installment was, in my opinion, the weakest of the series. I had my reservations about Emma, formerly known as Seline in previous installments, but she really won me over in this book. I adored her character. She had been hardened by her life experiences, but there was still a softness about her. It wasn’t often that she let it show, but it was there, and when things hit her, they hit her hard. Tom was the perfect man for her. He was kind and also timid, and I think a man that Emma needs to coax out of his shell, especially after a past where she’s been used and abused, was exactly what she needed. What made me think I wouldn’t be able to warm up to this plot, Having said that, this is part of the reason the book lost me. It felt way too modern for me, and if I had to read Emma’s thoughts about how dumb men were one more time, I was going to throw this book across the room. It was just so often and Emma’s disdain for men was so deep, I’m not sure I believe she and Tom will be happy. I think they’re going to end up miserable, and I never want to walk away from a romance novel feeling that way. There were also times when she made stupid decisions, and while the hard-headedness fell in line with her character, the stupid didn’t, and it threw me for a loop. Also, the previous books in this series were a bit far-fetched and exaggerated in a really fun way that I enjoyed. I felt like this one tried to be, but it just never seemed to get there.

The highlight of this for me was the secondary characters, particularly Emma’s friend Calla. She had so many fantastic lines, and I just love that no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she gets up again. It was also nice to see Tom’s family and how they were doing.

Overall, if you’re a fan of this series, it’s worth the read to really get to know Tom and if you wanted to know how things worked out for Seline, this is for you. As for me, while there were parts I enjoyed, Bound for Temptation just missed the mark overall. There are more characters in this series that I love, though, and I would love to see it continue so we can read about them.

This was my first Western historical romance, and boy am I hooked. If (like me) you're into Regency historicals by authors like Julia Quinn, Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, Lisa Kleypas, and Lenora Bell, then Tess LeSue's writing is a very similar vibe to the style of those writers - just out West with pistols and cowboys instead of ballrooms and dukes. Tess LeSue is definitely a new favorite author and one that's going on my auto-buy list; she's also not only opened the door to whole new subgenre of romance for me, I'd say she blew that door right off the hinges with a mining cart full of dynamite.

Emma (formerly Seline) is a spitfire of a woman who can take care of herself - and anyone else that crosses her path that needs it to. I love that she's so positive despite everything that's happened in her life, and that she knows that while sometimes you have no control over what happens to you, you damn well have control over how you react to it. She's impetuous and runs off a little half-cocked sometimes, but I adore her "excellent plans" and the way her mind works, and how she just keeps her chin up even when the hits keep comin'. She's basically Poppy from the movie Trolls. (It's OK if you don't know who that is, haha.)

Tom is a dark and brooding hero who is lonely and somewhat damaged, and I want to hug him and squeeze him and tell him it's gonna be OK. He's not in a good place when he meets Emma and the rest, but he is a good guy, and it shows. And while he is an incredibly giant jerkbutt, he realizes it much faster than some men and I forgive him easily. Also, he's kind of a big hot dork and it's adorable, as is the fact that he is the youngest of three swoony brothers, and has no idea how hot he is because his big brothers are just as swoony but know how to turn on the charisma and charm more than he does and he's a little taciturn. Oooh, I just wanna pinch his cheeks!

The dynamic between Emma and Tom is anazing, and I love the jokes they make and their small teasing moments. I'm also a sucker for a mistaken identities trope, so the fact that Tom is hot for Emma even though he thinks she's a nun and then hating himself for it, and then she's sitting there going "Dammit, he thinks I'm a nun and I'm actually an ex-whore, what the hell do I do about this now?" just makes me giddy with glee. Yessss, suffer my children, suffferrrrrr and look at each other with hot, longing looks. Mwahaha! The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and I love it. Aside from the sizzling attraction and the super slow burn, there are also a lot of deeper lessons here, like realizing that you can't change your past, the future is what you make of it, and sometimes you need to fight for your happy ending.

This is the third book in the Frontiers of the Heart series, but can be read as a stand alone. I read this book first, and I think there are some spoilers for the first two books. From what I can tell, it sounds like Emma is a side character in the first two books as Seline (and that she's not a very likeable side character in the first book, haha). Each book focus on one of Tom's brothers and the first one, Bound for Eden, is Luke's book, and since Seline had a thing for Luke... Yeah. Anyway, you can absolutely read Bound for Temptation without reading the first two books in the series and completely be able to follow it just fine, but you may spoil yourself on some plot points for the first two books in the series. I'm still definitely going back to read them, but it might be a good idea to read them in order (just in case).

The h was a riot ... an unapologetic liar ... who always made plans ... was unbelievable cheerful ... and had a tragic back story ...
Also, she was a prostitute, a madam who spends the better part of the book going about as a nun, albeit one who sang bawdy songs, swore and what all ...
but she had her reasons for becoming a prostitute and I think she was justified .. and she had no self pity ...
She was snarky and cheeky throughout ... loved her ...

I was surprised by how engaging and believable I found Tess LeSue’s Bound for Temptation. LeSue brought to life the characters, the friendship and the heat of travel through the California and Mexican countryside.

I do occasionally enjoy a western historical romance, but I sometimes find the romanticizing of the realities of race and gender in the West to be uncomfortable. While LeSue did fictionalize the life and times of Gold Rush California, she also integrated some difficult realities of slavery, the treatment of Native Americans and women into the story without detracting from the heart of the tale of Emma and Tom. The issues helped to show the depth and strength of the characters.

The storyline flows for the first part of the novel and I thought the tension between the characters played out believably. I found the pacing at the end of the novel a little off for me, but still enjoyed the conclusion to Emma and Tom’s romance. This is the third book in LeSue’s series about the Slater brothers, I have not read the prior novels and did not feel I missed anything. I look forward to reading more the LeSue’s books.

First of all, I LOVED Emma. She's an amazing female character--strong, a survivor, hilarious, and just AMAZING. She gives just as good as she gets, and her plans, well don't even get me started on all her plans.

After about 100 pages in, I could not put this book down down. I say this because this book has some tropes I don't like, BUT I am so happy I stuck it out. I loved how Emma just blazed right through the barriers with the help her strong female friends. There is just so much girl power in this book, and I loved every minute of it. The characters are working through their own "flaws" and issues which gives them a depth that kept me thoroughly engaged.

Let's not forget about the romance! I loved Tom's insecurity, even though I wanted to shake him at certain times. I hadn't read his brother's books, but now I definitely will. Especially knowing that Emma was in previous books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical western romance. Emma is a character I won't soon forget; plucky, funny, bold, vain, kindhearted, and quick-witted. Tom is equally memorable. The story is romantic, comedic, adventurous, and ultimately very satisfying. As soon as I finish this review, I am heading to over to add the other books in this series to my wishlist :-)

Bound for Temptation by Tess LeSue is the 3rd book in her western historical romance Frontiers of the Heart series. We met our heroine, Emma Palmer (Seline), in the previous book, as she was a madam in her own brothel, and knew both Luke & Matt Slater (previous book heroes). When we meet Emma, she has sold her place, having saved enough money to travel to California and live a normal life. But first she has to escape one of the rich locals, who is determined to make Seline his.

Tom Slater, the 3rd Slater brother, is trying to clear his name, as his brother gave his name as a cover for the infamous ‘Deathrider’. When Emma makes arrangements with the real ‘deathrider’ having met him earlier, and Tom is assigned to bring Emma, her two friends and young girl on the trek, which could be dangerous, since she is running away from a dangerous man.

When Tom meets Emma, the fun begins as the girls are dressed as nuns, to hide their appearance. In a short time, Tom is beside himself, as he begins to find himself attracted to the Nun (Emma). I really loved Emma, who is a strong, independent and a fun heroine, whom you could not help but root for her. From the start, she found herself attracted to the hunky Tom, but knew she needed to play the part of a nun, which was hard for her, as she continued to act her rambunctious sassy way; this also confused Tom how she spoke her mind. Emma always had a plan to get out of certain situations, which was pretty hilarious.

The adventure was not only wild crazy, but a lot of humor along the way. When they meet dangerous criminals during their travels, the situation becomes tense, and they must find away to escape without revealing their true identities. When Tom gets injured, things will change as Emma has to help fix his injuries, and it was fun to see Tom appalled; but this led to the truth….she was not a Nun. Their relationship heated up, but not for long, as Tom discovers more truths about Emma’s past.

Tom was a good hero, but to me Emma was the star of this book. I absolutely loved her. I also loved how when she lost Tom, she planned to find a way to win him back, but had to travel where the Slater Brothers lived, which did not sit well with the other Slater wives. Emma was a great cook and baker and used this to start her new life. Would Tom ever return to his home? Would he accept Emma’s past? You will need to read this book to find out.

Bound forTemptation was a sweet fun historical western that was exciting adventure, romantic and humorous. I look forward to see what else Tess LeSue has in store for us.

Emma and Tom both have pasts they're trying to outrun. Emma wants to outrun her history of being a madam of a house of ill repute, while Tom is running away from his feelings for his brother Luke's wife. Both end up with dangerous men on their tail and find that they have to not only help each other but find a way to trust one another in order to stay alive. And when tempting feelings start to surface, it's only a matter of time until they consider running from each other instead...

Thoughts: Well, I didn't enjoy this story as much as LeSue's second in the series, Bound for Sin. The premise started off all well and good, but the compilation of lies Emma tells Tom is certainly going to come back to bite her. And there was no need to keep up the pretense of being a nun with Tom -- Emma was already familiar with the Slater family, having developed what she thought were deep feelings for his brother Luke -- so she had to know she could trust him. I understand the need for the costume while they traveled (it is the wild west, after all) but she could have told him straight away that she wasn't a nun. For that matter. Bound for Temptation is an interesting story and has some very sweet, romantic scenes. I was left disappointed as a reader, though, because I wanted a bit more time with Emma and Tom as an actual couple.

This was a great western romance !

I love his author's storytelling style and rich characters. Tom and Emma were wonderful together. Somehow they found themselves on the run together. Tom had a bounty on his head thanks to a mistaken identity and Emma was running from her past. I really loved how the author fleshed out their characters with flaws and vulnerabilities. Tom was just too sweet and Emma was a very charming and mischieveous heroine. The outrageous schemes that she came up with had me smiling from beginning to end.

I enjoyed the romance along with the laughs in this book ! I'm really hoping that Death Rider gets a book soon.

I was given a complimentary Netgalley copy of the book to review.

You guys this book was stupidly amazing. In that it's stupid how amazing it is. I loved it! Blew me away. I was iffy on book two, liked book one okay, but man, I loved 100% everything about this book, from Emma and her sass and ability to take no shit while still being warm, to the way they talked about surviving sexual violence in a way that was not over the top graphic but still really powerful.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

More please. Now.

I read this book for entertainment while I was sick in bed, and found it a rollicking good read. What I particularly appreciated was how the author maintained the fine and difficult balance between acknowledging the prejudices of the time, while allowing the characters to question them. The plot has many unexpected twists and turns, and you come to care for the characters and hope their lives work out. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

BOUND FOR TEMPTATION by Tess LeSue riles up the west as the naughty heroine disguises herself as a nun, launching one crazy plan after another.

Seline dreams of a house in San Francisco – a dream that comes closer to reality when she sells her three whorehouse saloons and becomes Emma Jane Palmer. It would be immediate gratification if it wasn’t for the pesky outlaw who insists on marrying her. That’s when her grandest plan takes root, disguised as a nun to travel safely out of that man’s reach.

Thanks to Deathrider, Tom Slater is on the run from bounty hunters. The darn fool used Tom’s fairly good name when the heat became too much around Deathrider’s reputation. A reputation earned mostly by a dime novelist who found the crazy Indian perfect fodder for her creative adventures. Now the “real” Tom Slater can’t go anywhere without having his life threatened. It’s no wonder Tom prefers cows over people.

The beginning of BOUND FOR TEMPTATION is a riot when Deathrider verbally spars with Tom, but then the book gets repetitive with Seline’s thoughts from a nun’s point of view. She spent her life as a whore and a madam. A nun’s thought process doesn’t equate with the reader’s interpretation of her character.

Tom is a little too pure for a man. It made his reaction to his situation funny, but I couldn’t relate to him the way I did with his brothers in BOUND FOR EDEN AND BOUND FOR SIN . Seline spends too much time in her head arguing with herself, creating a lack in dialogue between them, which would have made the book more interesting. BOUND FOR TEMPTATION had potential, but by stalling midway I wasn’t anxious for it to continue.

That said – I know this author’s talent for storytelling, having loved the first two books in the FRONTIERS OF THE HEART series. I kept reading because I liked Seline, aka Emma, as she preferred to be called, and wanted her happiness. By the last quarter of the book, after I knew Emma’s past, I was invested in her future. Everyone deserves forgiveness, Emma and Tom included. The end of this creative novel is beautiful and perfect, which made me crave the next story even more.

BOUND FOR TEMPTATION is full of crazy, hair-brained ideas. That’s Seline, who always has a plan. The comedic tone makes this author’s brand of western irresistible. There is a lot of raucous talk and pure sex in this one. What do you expect when the heroine is a whore pretending to be a nun? It must be outrageous, and it is. But the kindness, redemption, and love make up for Seline’s naughty self in the end. She cleans up real nice. A class act with a huge heart.

Fans of pure western adventure romance will love the FRONTIERS OF THE HEART series. It’s rowdy, unexpected, and full of fun characters whose journeys to happy-ever-after are pure addiction.

Emma & Tom
another great story that took us on a long journey. What could go wrong, did. They couldn't catch a break. disguised as a nun, along with her friends, she didn't act like one. Tom didn't understand why he was feeling attracted to her and felt really bad about it. the time away gave Tom the opportunity to work out his feelings for Alex, his sister-in-law. What he thought was love turned out not to be what he thought. his feelings for Emma were different and stronger. Learning who she was through him for a major loop and left him confused. Fortunately Emma was stronger and went after what she wanted.
the author really went into the psyche of both characters and gave us a true feeling of what women had to deal with in the West and in this time period. it wasn't easy and sometimes a woman doesn't have many options in life. True eye opener. Wonderful story and journey.

I really loved this story I think even more than the book before this Bound for Sin. Seline has to get outta town before Hec finds her and makes her his slave so she sells her business, shaves her beautiful red hair and disguises herself so she can to to California. Well thanks to some of her friends they will be traveling in a group with Tom Slater and White Death which would of been ok but Tom has a price on his head. Well you have to love the vision of this group traveling to Mexico and trying to avoid getting captured or shot. This book is a perfect combination of Wild West and the gold rush, Emma is one tough lady and you can’t help but admire her.

I have read the other two books in this series but I think there is enough information given that it could be a standalone novel. The other books are good though and I suggest that you read them.
Tom Slater is a cattleman and doesn't really have a home like his brothers do. He is planning on living in Mexico where he has run cattle before. And ever since he fell in love with one of his brother's wives before the brother did but she did not return his feelings staying at his brother’s home is kind of awkward. So he goes out to head down to Mexico but ends up coming across an interesting set of nuns and helps them along. There are some crazy events that happen while he is helping those nuns. Emma Palmer used to run a brothel under the name Seline. She is finally financially secure enough to sell the brothel and have a regular life. But she is trying to escape an evil man who has decided that he is hers no matter what and dresses like a nun to do so. Her and one of her girls travel together and pick another couple up along the way. Tom and Emma end up falling for each other in their trek to get to Mexico.

Bound for Temptation is the third novel in the Frontiers of the Heart series. In the previous two books we watched as each of Tom's two brothers fell in love while journeying across the country. Tom wasn't a character that we saw too much of since most of the previous books were centered around the grueling travels and the various obstacles that each couple had to overcome. Tom's story is no different. In fact, I feel like his story was the one with the biggest hurdle of all.

You see, Tom is in love with his brother's wife. Ever since his brother Luke brought her to their small town, he's had his sights set on her. Which is extremely awkward. So, Tom spends as much time as he can on the trail, running the business. Emma (formerly known as Seline) has probably the biggest hill to climb than anyone. She was the madam at the whorehouse that Tom's brother, Luke, frequented when he rolled through town. In fact, Emma fancied herself in love with Luke for a time. So, yeah... these two had some issues to work out.

While we didn't know or see too much of Tom in the previous books, Emma (aka Seline) was seen a lot. Aside from her nightly meetings with Luke in the first book, she also accompanied Matt on his trek across country as a form of distraction. Matt's love interest was trying to shake a couple of sharks off her, so Seline and some of her girls accompanied the convoy to keep the men entertained and otherwise hold their attention elsewhere. So, Emma already had a tarnished reputation going into this. However, I was really interested in hearing her story, and boy did she not disappoint.

Like the previous books, the woman is trying to outrun a man who's chasing her, and enlists the help of a passing Slater brother. In this case, Tom gets wrangled into helping a couple of nuns and a grieving senorita with her daughter across the country to a convent. Little does he know that the nuns are non-other than Seline (Madam to the local whorehouse), and a couple of her employees. Obviously, Tom is horrified by his growing attraction to Sister Emma. Which of course makes for an amusing read.

I really liked that the hurdles these characters faced was a bit taboo. I mean a brother in love with his sister-in-law and a whore who thought she was in love with his brother? However, I felt like the author did a great job giving each of these characters a voice to be heard and understood. One thing I wish was a bit different would have to be the ending. It felt rather abrupt given all the build-up to it. I would have liked to have seen Emma living her life a little bit more and establishing herself in the community some before the story ended. However, I'm holding out hope that this won't be the last we see of Emma.

This series is actually incredible and takes westerns and particularly the adventure trope to a whole new level — Tom is the last of the brothers to get his love story (I guess Death rider is an honorary brother, but anyway) and Emma is one hell of a heroine. After selling her business (that she built up after working as a sex worker there), she’s running from a powerful ex-client and has to go undercover as a nun with a fellow ex-sex worker and the saloons cook and her child looking for a better life in Mexico.

Tom comes into town just as she’s ready to set out to warn Deathrider of the pack of bounty hunters on his trail. Death rider is at Emma’s former business and, as an old friend, agrees to help her and the other women to Mexico. Deathrider tells Tom he must help him get the women south but leaves out some vital information: the three nuns he’s been tasked quite unwillingly to escort are actually former sex-workers fleeing some dangerous people.

In the incredible Tess LeSue fashion, they set out south across the desert and encounter a few problems, which I will not spoil here.

The main part of this story is of course Tom and Emma, who have some amazing chemistry, even though Emma is supposed to be a celibate nun hiding her identity from Tom. Their rapport is so fluid and fun and intricately intelligent that it’s so easy to see how they’re meant for each other.

Also, one of the best parts of the book to me is it’s exploration of the consequences of life out west for some women and how these women’s experience as sex-workers have impacted them. And also how society views and judges sex-workers.

To not spoil anything, I’ll stop there, but just know that this is not one to miss — this series is an under appreciated western saga filled with the kind of romance that is real and warm and worth every page.

"Bound For Temptation" by Tess LeSue

My Thoughts....

The author really has a good way of relaying a good story to the reader with great style and with some interesting characters. The two main characters were good with both being 'on the run' from California to Mexico. We have Tom being on the run due to having feelings for his brother's wife and Emma who was running from her past of being a madam at a house of ill repute by a bully. Even though this is a rather good romantic read it will keep you laughing from some of the bantering that is going on in the read especially the part where Emma disguising herself as a nun. I will say that Emma really was a lively one who really knew how to cook up some crazy ideas that will have you laughing out loud. I liked how the story turns somewhat and these two will start to have feelings for one another.

With both Tom and Emma having people on their tail they find they will only make it out of this mess by helping and trusting each other in order to stay alive on this journey where we find Tom being considered a 'sweet guy' with Emma being 'charming and mischievous.' By the end this story turns out being a good western romance. Will these two finally get their HEA? Well, you will have to pick up "Bound for Temptation" to see how this author brings this enjoyable romance out to the reader.

I was given a complimentary Netgalley and Berkley Publishing a ebook of the book to read and review.

4.5 stars. Really, really strong book. It manages to have a LOT of plot, with zany hilarious situations as well as some serious heavy content without it feeling melodramatic. It didn’t give me quite the emotional highs and lows of the last book (which I would recommend reading first), but I think I liked it better overall.
The relationship between the former madam with the heart of gold (her brothel is literally called “Heart of Gold”) and the staid John Wayne-esque cowboy manages to be a fresh twist on the well-travelled trope.
The settings are stunning. As a native Californian, it gave me a twinge of homesickness - and I know exactly what those hot August days feel like.
I also have to give the author kudos for including the ways that Native Americans were mistreated, forced from their lands, and of course murdered, by the white and Spanish settlers of California. She does it in a way that is organic and doesn’t erase their presence from the story, and without making the characters feel like tokens. We certainly didn’t get taught about the Indenture Act of 1850 that effectively legalised slavery of native peoples during my public school classes in the 1990s.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

This book was so good, I don't think I've ever read a western romance, but I can't wait to get hold of the other two in this series. Tess has infused these characters with so much humour, love, grief, hope, despair and humility that I just loved them. There's some pretty serious topics in this book, as you would expect from these frontier times and people and she deals with them with them in a respectful and empathic way, whilst still portraying the awfulness and savagery of the times. I thought the chemistry between Emma and Tom was great and the way they rubbed each other up the wrong way whilst still being totally into each other in secret due to Emma's plot to hide as nuns. Emma's plans always caused me to laugh and groan at the same time, I imagine her friends and Tom were doing the same thing. A highly enjoyable read

Bound for Temptation is the third book in Tess LeSue's Frontiers of the Heart series of historicl romances. Each book tells the story of one of the Slater brothers, and book three gives Tom Slater the chance to be the hero. Tom is a bachelor who runs cattle in 1850. Seline is an ex-madame who is running away from Hec Boehm, who wants to "own" her. When Tom's friend, Deathrider, needs to hide out from bounty hunters, he talks Tom into escorting Seline and 3 women safely to Magdalena. This book is full of disguises, schemes, comical situations, secrets, surprises, trouble, close calls, and of course a bit of romance. There is never a dull moment for this group of interesting characters. I haven't read the first two books in this series, but this book works well as a stand alone. Very entertaining.

Absolutely loved this rollicking adventure full of action, romance, laughter and tears. It was THE PERFECT book for me to read ATM. The story of Emma (who we knew as the whore Selene in previous books, now retired) and Tom is a fun and entertaining read. I adore Emma in this book and her constant plans including dressing up as a nun to escape unwanted attention. She’s hilarious as a nun. I love deep thinking, kind Tom. I love that this book made me laugh but take my hat of to Ms Le Sue for also talking about the reality of the frontier especially for women and the First Nations peoples. These stories made me cry and sad but it’s important to know the ugly parts too.

All in all, fabulous read. I can’t wait to read Deathrider’s story in the next book.

Disclaimer: While I know the author personally, this doesn’t affect my star rating.

Luke and Emma's story was a hoot and the best of the three in the series. (Could there be more--maybe Deathrider's?) I was a little worried that Emma would come across as too hard considering her past, but she had a lot of softness and understanding, too. Luke was everything wonderful; the type of hero who doesn't realize his own appeal and charm and who struggles with insecurity and inner longing to fit somewhere. I enjoyed his wrestle with desire for a nun. Too delicious! They made a great team. The dangerous trek to Mexico was adventurous and enough to keep the pace lively but not forced. Enjoyable at 4 stars.

This series of standalone romances is fantastic. Although each book can be read easily by themselves, there is a storyline that flows though each book. Bound for Temptation is Tom and Seline/Emma's story.
I love this historical romance. The life on the trail is hard. The banter between Tom and Emma is hilarious. There's action and suspense that will keep you hooked.
The writing is fantastic. It's told in both Tom and Emma's POV. - Christina

This story centers on Emma Palmer and Tom Slater, as they race from California to Mexico trying to avoid a few posses that are chasing them and their attraction to each other.

Really enjoyed this book. Lots of fun. Especially all the crazy ideas that Emma cooks up. Tom was cranky and reading the how he endured her torturous schemes was funny. Emma was a great character. I loved her in the previous book as well. She is definitely a sassy character.

Received an ARC from First to Read.
