David Martin and David Walker bring the littlest readers a story full of snow-day fun, complete with snacks, surprises, and, best of all, friendship.
"It's snowing!" yells Peep. "It's snowing!" yells Ducky. And they both have sleds. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
What could be a more perfect toddler adventure? When the snow starts to fall, Peep and Ducky climb into their sleds for a race, landing happily on each other after hitting a bump. Then they're on to building a snowman. But when the top half crashes, someone kicks snow and both friends get mad . . . until they crack each other up. With irresistible illustrations and a singsong text that begs to be read aloud, David Martin and David Walker usher the winsome duo into another season.

Readers of David Martin's books won't be surprised when they meet the author and find that he is just as entertaining as his books - he sings, plays the guitar or the kazoo, or even juggles during his school visits. As David Martin says, "I have never minded particularly making a fool of myself," so he is never at a loss to illustrate his points or to make a connection with the kids. In his interactive sessions, he also works with students to create their own books or to produce oversized class books. The author's ease in the classroom comes from his hands-on teaching experience: he's an eighteen-year veteran of elementary and middle schools.
A native of Queens, Martin has lived in northeast Vermont with his family since 1970.
"Peep and Ducky It's Snowing" by David Martin is a great book for kids around the ages of 3 to 5. It is beautifully illustrated by David Walker and is a warm book on friendship.
The book centers around two friends, Peep, a baby chick, and Ducky, a little duck who are close friends who love to play outside in the winter. Their friendship is not without mishaps and setbacks, but ultimately, with the help of their parents, Momma Bird and Poppa Duck, they learn to work together and love one another.
I thought this book had a great message, was adorably illustrated and caught the attention of my 4-year-old who could understand it and was engaged as we read it.

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Peep and Ducky are baby birds who go outside to play in the winter. They have a ton of fun sledding but when they go to build a snowman things go wrong and they end up fighting. They make up just in time for spending time with Momma and Poppa. The story is told in a simple repetitive rhyming scheme. This was a charming book with adorable illustrations. The rhyming was just perfect –flowing perfectly and using only words young readers and listeners could easily understand. Perfect for Pre-K with a discussion about what they like to do outside.
This is a very cute book for the littlest snowy friends that would pair perfectly for a snowy winter night complete with snuggly blankets and hot chocolate.
The repetitive nature of the writing and the soft, colorful pictures make this book really appropriate for young readers. Nice mini-lesson, too, about working out your differences.
Peep and Ducky go outside on a snowy day. typical sibling stuff- having fun, getting into arguments, figuring out how to get along, etc. rhyming in pictures were cute. Good for babies and toddlers.
I love these books of Peep and Ducky. The text is so simple that toddlers can follow along and even keep an infant attention. I also like it's simple enough for a new reader to be able to read and follow along with it. The illustrations created by David Walker are simple in their designs but yet still are colorful for the little kids. It's perfect book for toddlers and younger.
