Two strong-willed sleuths team up to solve a mystery. Can they work together, or will their differences pull them apart?
Librarian Nancy Daley loves a good mystery and enjoys moonlighting as a consultant for the sheriff’s department. When license plates go missing in Tipton County, she’s on the case. This time things are different—she’s been partnered with the new deputy, and he’s not interested in her help. To make matters worse, she’s angered the wrong person and is now being threatened.
Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone expects Tipton, Oregon to be a sleepy small-town, but he miscalculated. He’d come to town for a fresh start with his nephew—one without the issues big cities deal with. Had he made a mistake? To complicate matters, he’s told he must consult with the sheriff’s daughter, who is not in law enforcement. When the minor case they are working morphs into something more, things quickly go from harmless to scary.
Can they solve the mystery before it’s too late, and more importantly, what will they do about their growing attraction?

Nancy is a librarian and she helps her father - the sheriff, by consulting, during any crimes. One of the new deputies - Carter, is not happy with this arrangement. This leads to a series of events as Nancy and Carter team up to solve the town's problems. The quirky characters and their interactions and how they solve the mystery with all their bungling deductions, forms the mystery. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Sleuths Miscalculation by Kimberly Rose Johnson is an enjoyable cozy mystery for a person who loves books, libraries and upstanding detectives! Nancy Daley is a librarian who is a bit of a sleuth. Her mother is the sheriff of their town so she has been around law enforcement quite a while. The fun begins when a new deputy arrives in town with his nephew and mistakes Nancy for a criminal. What an appropriate name for a character who loved Nancy Drew Mysteries as a girl.
I am looking forward to reading more stories from the Librarian Sleuth series.
*I purchased this ebook from Amazon. All opinions are my own.*
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. There were interesting characters and the plots was easy to follow. A mystery to solve and it ended happily. I like forward to more books by this author
Kimberly Rose Johnson always has a way of immersing the reader in her stories. The Sleuth's Miscalculations its no exception. The characters were lively and quirky. Her small town atmosphere was definitely small town with the gossip tree and eccentric ways. I love how the characters interact with one another. They are wary of newcomers but once they meet them they continue about as if nothing is amiss. Nancy is the librarian but she is also the sheriff's daughter. Consulting with the police is a part of who she is. When new deputy Carter questions the validity of this idea, Nancy takes offense. Seeing these two work together was fun. However, will work turn into more? Will Carter accept Nancy for who she is? And can they find the person responsible for the thefts before someone gets hurt? You will have to read the story to find out. Will their miscalculations finally give them the right answer?
I received an advance copy from the author. No review was required.
What a delightful book! I read book #2 before I read book #1 and it was okay to do that. It probably would have been better to read book # 1 first to get a background of the characters of this small town.
I like the cover of the book and a book about a librarian being a detective is so appealing to me!
Nancy Daley had some really comic moments in this book. I like how she related to people - so many people respected her and that is where the problem began. She had many frightful times because of the scary things happening to her. She did not let that stop her from continuing to be a sleuth.
Nancy and her next door neighbor, Anna, became really good friends and I liked how that friendship developed. Also Nancy's relationship with the new member of the police force was very endearing.
If you like a mystery, drama, good friendships and a bit of romance, then this is the book for you.
Exciting fast paced mystery with very interesting characters. I wanted to keep reading each page to find the clues about the crimes. Romance and mystery are found in this great story. I received a copy of this story from the author and this is my personal honest opinion. No review was required.
I liked reading this book. It is a very enjoyable clean and well written contemporary small town cozy. With likeable characters and none of that over the top zany behaviour it’s all quite believable.
The Sleuth's Miscalculation #1 The Librarian Sleuth by Kimberly Rose Johnson
What does Librarian Nancy Daley do in her spare time...a bit of sleuthing of all things. I guess being the Sheriff’s daughter she was bound to want to do some investigating of her own. Of course, the new Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone does not want her help in his investigations but was not given a choice. Who is behind the mysterious things happening in this small town of Tipton, Oregon? Will they join forces to catch them before something serious happens and the threats are carried? A fast, fun story.
~I received an ARC copy of this book from the author/publisher (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~
The Sleuth’s Miscalculation by Kimberly Rose Johnson
Nancy first met Carter when she broke into her friend Gloria’s house by breaking the back window on the door — a result of Gloria’s pleas, of course. Why else would someone do something like that? Due to the fact that Carter was the new deputy in town, that meeting didn’t exactly go well. . .
The Sleuth’s Miscalculation probably falls under the category of “cozy mystery”. I appreciate that there was no murder, no gore, and no violence. Yet the mystery was compelling and as more information became available, it was obvious that it was more complex than anyone had originally anticipated.
Some elements of the story were hinted at but not really developed more. I would have enjoyed reading more about the balloon creations and how Carter got involved in making them as a child. I also thought that the issues surrounding the lie were a little bit vague.
In the first book of this new series, The Librarian Sleuth, the heroine is a librarian whose mother is the county sheriff. Nancy has unofficially helped the sheriff’s department solve some cases when she was able to do some sleuthing on the sly. A new deputy has just been hired by her mother to fill the vacancy created when another deputy was killed by a drunk driver. His first encounter with Nancy goes rather badly as he arrests her for breaking into a home. He had moved from L.A. and apparently was taught the concept of shoot now and ask questions later. Fortunately for everyone, no shots were fired, but he was rather embarrassed to learn he had arrested the daughter of his new boss. And Nancy was not at all happy about the situation. The real clincher to that little fiasco was when Sheriff Daley informed him and Nancy that she wanted them to work together on solving a spree of license plate thefts. Could things get any worse for either of them when they had no desire at that point to ever see each other again? Well, things can always get worse. But you will have to read the book to see how everything works out. You will be entertained and encouraged. I received a copy of the book from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Nancy Daley, in addition to being a librarian, is also the daughter of the county sheriff. Moreover, she has had some success in her avocation as an amateur sleuth. So, you can imagine her indignation at being paired with the new deputy, who recently transferred from LA. She feels eminently qualified to solve a string of license plate robberies in her hometown of Tipton, Oregon. Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone is even more upset to be told he must work with an amateur who is the town’s librarian!
Tipton is a small town, full of all the characters one would expect to find in a small town. There are the gossips, the do-gooders and those who stick their nose into everything whether it helps or not. Throw in a couple of teenagers, an overly strict father, plus other strange townspeople, and you have the makings of an extraordinary whodunnit!
Kimberly Rose Johnson’s first book in the Librarian Sleuth series, The Sleuth’s Miscalculation, is an exciting mystery, suspense story.
I have read and enjoyed many of Kimberly Rose Johnson’s romance short stories and novellas. Thus, it was no surprise to me when I enjoyed her newest endeavor in mystery and suspense, too!
I received this book from the author, Kimberly Rose Johnson. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.
The Sleuth’s Miscalculation ( The Librarian Sleuth-Book 1 ) By: Kimberly Rose Johnson The Sleuth’s Miscalculation is book one in The Librarian Sleuth Series. The author drew me in at the start and I was captured. The story flows easy and the characters are unique and well developed. This is a fast paced mystery with some romance that will have you trying to read faster to see what is going to happen next. There are some strange and mysterious things that are happening in this small town of Tipton , Oregon. The sheriff is new and a Librarian that does some sleuthing on the side. Can these two work together to solve the mysteries in this small town? I loved this warm mystery which is different from the authors other stories. I caught myself laughing out several times and then there was times when I was holding my breath. I am looking forward to reading book two in this wonderful mystery series. I was given a complimentary copy , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I've enjoyed many of Kimberly Rose Johnson's books, and this one can be added to the list. Even though this story was set in a fictitious town in Oregon, the author did such a good job describing it, I actually thought it was real. The characters in this story were so relatable, and seemed like they could be your next door neighbor. However, I'm not sure I'd want to be connected to Nancy, because too many things kept happening to her. I also loved all the suspense and craziness that went on around Nancy and Carter. The author has a wonderful skill of weaving the sweet relationships and never-ending suspense in such a way that you don't want to put the book down. I truly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more about this town and these characters. I highly recommend picking up this book. It's a fun read!
"The Sleuth's Miscalculation" is the first book in the Librarian Sleuth series. I liked Carter and Nancy and their interactions. I liked how there were several people who seemed like they might be the one behind the mysteries happening in Tipton. I had my suspicions early on that proved to be true, although I didn't totally understand the motivations behind their actions. I look forward to reading more books in the series and getting to know the characters better.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
A great laid back easy read cozy. A new man in town, with his nephew, a crime spree that is building momentum and a would be Nancy Drew. She is the Sheriff's daughter and a librarian. He is a new police officer. Together they are going to investigate and try to clean up the crime spree. Threats, arson, snakes and attempted murder are woven into small town life where everyone knows everyone. A wonderful read that shows the relationships that build between friends, neighbours and acquaintances.
I gave it three stars because it was such a short read. The characters seemed realistic and the plot was plausible: it just didn't last long enough to be truly satisfying. I liked the characters and identified with them but I was hoping for more action, more substance to the plot. Nancy's interest in Carter was comforting as was his interest in her: I'm not sure I would be as immediately forgiving as he. The teenagers seemed real. Ben and Lily were total surprises!
Awesome read, characters and storyline. First page on keeps you wanting more. Nancy helped her mom, the sheriff, work on investigation and no one expected she was. Her mom hires a new deputy from out of state who has adopted his nephew. He is learning how to be a parent to a teenager and Nancy starts getting murder threats he is working on. So much started about the time him and his nephew arrives. A definite must read to find out all the awesomeness
Author Kimberly Rose Johnson wrote a superb mystery and romance book. This is definitely a five star storyline. The Sleuth's Miscalculation had me mesmerized from the beginning. The characters are unique, the mystery is great, plus adding the wonderful romance. The Sleuth's Miscalculation is a must read book by Author Kimberly Rose Johnson.
I received a copy from the author, but was not required to review it. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
Nancy known as the town librarian, and her mother was the sheriff. New deputy in town, wanted a quieter place to raise his nephew.. A friend called Nancy in a panic forgot the special made cupcakes at her house, read a window and bring to the park. She is hesitant to do it, and the new sheriff caught her. License plates being stolen, Chief asks him to work with her daughter to find the culprits.A cute comical story to read and enjoy
Who would attack the library? And the librarian? Does it have anything to do with the fact that her mother is the sheriff? And what about the new deputy in town? And his nephew, whose father is in prison for a long time? Just how serious is this situation? Moving from stolen license plates to arson in the library to --say, just how serious IS this? Recommended for readers of clean Christian romantic suspense.
In a small town in Oregon it is usually quiet, but someone is stealing license plates. A new deputy, used to working in the big city, arrested the Sheriff’s daughter for breaking and entering. She was given permission by the owner, but still put her in cuffs. As the story continues they work on the case together until she is put in danger. A friendly little town and no clues. Enjoyed the book.
I love cozy mysteries and romantic suspense and this is a delightful blend of both. There is plenty of suspense, twists and turns to occupy your mind. A cast of vivid characters populate the book amidst the backdrop of a library. This book is recommended for those that enjoy cozy mysteries and romantic.
Small town atmosphere with quirky, lovable characters and a twist and turn plot makes this mystery romance a hit. The unexpected miscalculations of both the new deputy Carter and sheriff's daughter made me laugh. Just what the doctor ordered for a whimsical entertaining summer read. Kimberly Rose Johnson's writing style draws the reader into the suspense.
Steven King said, “Good books don’t give up their secrets all at once.” By that measure Kimberly Rose Johnson new book, The Sleuth’s Miscalculation is a good book, a very good book. It is full of interesting characters caught up in a puzzle that will keep you guessing until the surprise ending. This is a playful, somewhat mischievous mystery that defines summer reading.
An entertaining book with great characters and setting, the small town of Tipton, Oregon. I checked to be sure I hadn't chosen a YA selection by mistake, but since the main sleuths had to be in their mid to late thirties it's just an extra sweet cozy. Very good escape on a cold, rainy day!
After finishing this first book in the series, I wasn't sure I really liked it. The writing seemed kind of choppy, and the plot didn't seem to flow very smoothly. Since I'd already purchased the second book, I went ahead and read it, and felt much more positive about both books after reading #2. I think getting to know the characters well over two books helped a lot. I decided my main problem wasn't the writing so much as I don't enjoy reading about people committing crimes and how it affects others. If you're a real mystery buff, you'll probably love this!
this is an enjoyable read, Nancy is a librarian and the daughter of the police chief, Carter is the new deputy that works for her mom. soon the are in a mystery license plates are going missing and strange things are happening , but who and why is this taking place now? if you like cozy mysteries and romance you will want to read the book
This is a quick, clean, enjoyable book. I loved the small town setting and the cast of characters. This looks to be the start of a good series. Nancy and Carter work well together and are both extremely likable.
I enjoyed the writing style. It is a good and interesting read. The characters, the town, the issues, all plausible. The whole story left me with a warm feeling. Satisfied. A good read.
