During the last fifty years, the level of the Dead Sea has dropped more than fifty feet, and land that has not been explored in over ten thousand years is suddenly dry and exposed. It reveals something never before seen by modern eyes, an immense cavern buried in the old sea floor, the walls of which have been carved with millions of perfect circles.
Tan Wu is sent to investigate, and struggles not only to uncover the meaning behind the massive inscription, but also to set the information free as the world’s governments and violent religious factions bear down on him to keep it hidden. What he discovers changes the world and everything we know about ourselves.
A for the science, D for the editing. The concept in general was deliciously complex (even though the "answers" were nebulous in the end), but it was the editing--or lack thereof--that really irked me. Normal sentences had question marks that made no sense. Commas were missing far too often (usually, there are too many). The editing misses increased exponentially, as though the subject matter was just too much to maintain interest. Letters were missing. Words were missing. Wrong homonyms were used. Just incredibly distracting from a story as we got near the climax.
It's likely unfair to judge based on partial memory, but this story has many passages that were very familiar. I read a great deal and most stories are somewhat derivative but this had too much for me to be happy. Assuming that I am grossly wrong. This is a very well written tale. If I happen to be right and it has been inspired by another work, it is far better to!d than the murky tale in my memory. This is a story that I am sure to remember for many years.
Such a fascinating read. The premise of the story is enthralling. The characters entirely relatable and fully developed. The science and maths, the story development, the style of writing, all fabulous. I found myself wishing the story was true. Read, you won’t regret it.
A fascinating book and I really enjoyed the story. I would have given it a higher rating but it's so full of grammatical errors, missing words, misspelled words, and other typos that I had to lower the rating.
It is difficult to imagine how the author came up with this story but it was a he'll of a job putting the book down. Sometimes it went over my head, but I,'m no Einstein. Intriguing would be an understatement. What a great read
I rarely write reviews for books that are amazing. As I read almost 500 books a year, I save my reviews for the truly hideous books. However, I adored this book. I found it confusing, unbelievable and astonishing at the end of rollercoaster of a read.
